Particular Cross-sectional Seal Profile Patents (Class 277/644)
  • Patent number: 6631910
Abstract: The open circular section gasket is not deformed under flattening while nevertheless ensuring the leaktightness of the two spaces to seal. Each contact surface (16) is slightly inclined and has a slightly offset projecting part (15) such that the summits of the two projecting parts define an axis that is offset with respect to the center line (A2) of the general circular shape of the gasket (10). When the gasket is flattened, the contact surfaces (16) tend to become parallel, the projecting parts (15) come closer to the center line (A2). Application to cases of static sealing.

Abstract: The tape is free from any slack and separation even when it is applied and bonded to a metal joint portion while being bent. The tape, made of an unvulcanized material containing an unvulcanized rubber-base material, a vulcanization accelerator, an anti-oxidizing agent, a pigment and a bulk filler, is formed into an elongated shape having an upper and a lower surface and a predetermined thickness measured in a direction perpendicular to the lower surface or flat bottom surface 1. The upper surface forms a circularly-curved surface 2 in cross section. Since the tape is in an unvulcanized state, it is capable of being free bent when applied to the metal joint portion. After application of the tape to the metal joint portion, a paint is applied to the tape, which is followed by a heating process in which the tape is heated, and, therefore vulcanized.

Abstract: An annular metal-to-metal sealing system, for use in wellhead systems and having many other uses, has a metal member defining an annular internal or external sealing surface for which sealing is intended. An annular seal body composed of high strength metal material is positioned in concentric relation with the annular sealing surface and is sufficient flexible to become spring loaded, typically during assembly, for continuous application of a spring force. The annular seal body defines one or more annular seal retainer grooves each having an annular soft metal sealing insert therein, with a portion thereof exposed for sealing engagement with the annular sealing surface. The spring loaded characteristic of the annular seal body applies constant force to maintain the soft metal seal insert in constantly energized sealing relation with the annular sealing surface and maintains effective sealing even when dimensional changes to the sealing surface occur due to temperature or pressure changes.

Abstract: A wafer container comprising an enclosure portion with a door frame defining an opening for insertion and removal of wafers and a door for insertion into the door frame for closing the opening and sealing with the door frame has an improved elastomeric seal. In a preferred embodiment of the invention an elastomeric seal encircles the door, is partially inset in a groove in the door, and has a cantilevered portion extending laterally outwardly from the door to engage a sealing surface of the door and a laterally displaced sealing surface of the door frame when the door is seated. Thus a seal can be provided that is effected almost totally by flexure of the cantilevered portion rather than by compression of the seal.
