The body element has a peripheral edge and a through passage that opens out along the peripheral edge of the body element. The structural unit is insertable into the through-passage so that the connection element opens out along a peripheral edge of the cover.

Abstract: A ring binder is provided that has attachable and detachable covers. The opposite edges of the binder's spine are hingedly attached to the proximal edges of respective front and back extensions which are relatively short in a direction perpendicular to the hinge axes. The extensions are sized to be substantially coextensive with the maximum projection of the binder's rings along an axis that is perpendicular to the inside surface of the spine, and the rings and associated structures are either mounted on the inside of the spine or inside of the back extension depending on the ring type. The front and back extensions function to extend the front and back covers to the hinges when the covers are attached to the extensions' distal edges. When so attached, an assembled ring binder having hinged covers is created that appears and functions as a conventional binder when used.

Abstract: An apparatus for producing hard book cases (covers) can make cases including tucked and folded corners. The apparatus can track the progress of the book case throughout the assembly process and can accurately align the unfinished assembly with the tucking and folding devices of the apparatus. Short runs of different sized book cases may be quickly and efficiently manufactured on a single apparatus.

Abstract: Aspects of the present invention provide a style guide, formatting methods, and electronic/digital versions for quick reference handbooks (QRH) for mobile platforms. Using one or more of the style guide and formatting methods to create quick reference handbooks can provide improvements in safety through error and workload reduction during non-normal situations, improvements in operator understanding of checklists and information contained in the checklists, reduced customer changes needed to create an airline quick reference handbook, reduced documentation maintenance costs, and/or reduced training costs through standardized format and content.

The sleeve comprises a front sleeve section and a back sleeve section and a centrally positioned spine sleeve section and wherein the spine sleeve section is connected to the front sleeve section on one side and is connected to the back sleeve section on the opposite side and further, wherein at least a portion of said sleeve is magnetized or magnetic such that when said sleeve is positioned so that the front sleeve section, back sleeve section and spine sleeve section overlie the respective front cover, back cover and spine of the book, the book and the sleeve are maintained in connected relation by magnetic forces of attraction.

Molding may be located along the entire length of the hinge or in discrete sections spaced from one another along the hinge. Molding may also be located on edges of the cover panels, such as along the entire edge or at the corners between the edges. The material of the molding may be a different material than the material of the panels. To form the molding on or with the panels, techniques such as comolding or overmolding may be employed.

The calendar may be customized and/or pre-designed for an individual or by the individual. In use, the behavior information may be recorded on the calendar sheet. Information associated with daily, weekly, and/or monthly behavior may be recorded. The information may include weekly and/or monthly averages and/or summations, delta calculations, and/or minimum/maximum data. The calendar may be adapted to measure or track indicators, such as, for example, developmental progress, caloric intake, amount and type of exercise, amount of fat, sodium or sugar, amount of cigarettes smoked, blood pressure measurements, weight gain or the like. A bottom space may also be provided to record monthly goals and/or objectives.

The insert (20) is then fit within a pocket (38) in the back cover (28) of the cover (26). The spine or side cover (30) and front cover (32) of the cover (26) then encloses the report (12) and spiral binding (14) to provide an attractive, book-like report with spine labeling and titling for easy shelf reference. The spine also provides a space for advertising. The report cover can be used with a report that is bound with a spiral, wire loop or three ring binding also. A modified cover (100) can be formed with integral side tabs (110) and end tab (112) to form the pocket (102) without the use of adhesive or other fastener.

Abstract: A flat sheet of paper, or other thin flexible material, has information printed on one side in the form of a plurality of discrete panels or areas of text or images, while the entire other side is taken up by a large-scale, poster-like pattern. The panels or areas of text or images, are defined by crease lines created by folding the sheet of material. These creases are formed using a perpendicular fold method described in detail in this application. Each fold is perpendicular to the previous fold, creating a grid-like pattern, with each panel in the grid pattern containing a discrete quantity of text or images. When the invention is at its most folded state it has a relatively compact size. As the invention is unfolded, the panels of text or images are revealed in a specific sequence in order to tell a story or communicate some other type of sequentially ordered information.

Abstract: A wrap-around notebook or binder includes a ring assembly with a shield and a pair of frames forming a bistable construction, and a hinge plate pivotally coupled to the shield with the outer surface of the hinge plate aligned with the outer extent of the shield/frame assembly when the hinge plate is parallel to the plane of the shield. The exposed frame member may be convex, recessed to receive rivet heads, and may be plated. The hinge plate(s) may have curls which interfit with alternate curls from the shield to provide a hinge. The ring assembly may be mounted in the notebook or binder so that the shield side of the ring assembly faces the front cover of the binder. The pivot line between the shield and the hinge plate may be spaced from the shield by a clearance distance. The notebook or binder lies flat on an underlying surface with either the front cover of the rear cover folded under the assembly.

Abstract: A binding structure for binding together sheets of paper having multiple openings along a margin thereof is provided. The structure comprises a male connector panel having multiple openings along its edge and a female connector panel fastened to the back panel of a one-piece report cover by means of adhesive, extending adjacent and parallel to the second hinge and distanced to allow enough room for the tab-shape on the male connector panel to be inserted to the center opening of the female connector panel without interfering with the adhesion of the female connector panel to the back panel of the cover. An elongated binding element is provided extending adjacent and parallel to the margin of the sheets of paper and the male connector panel edge. The male connector panel is disposed on a bottom side of the elongated binding element. A one-piece report cover is provided having a front panel, a center spine panel, a back panel, a first hinge and a second hinge.

Abstract: A report cover (10) is disclosed which can be used with a report (12) bound by a flexible comb binding (14). An insert (20) is bound with the report (12) in the flexible comb binding (14). The insert (20) is then fit within a pocket (38) in the back cover (28) of the cover (26). The spine or side cover (30) and front cover (32) of the cover (26) then encloses the report (12) and spiral binding (14) to provide an attractive final report appearance. The report cover can be used with a report that is bound with a spiral, wire loop or three ring binding also.

Abstract: Use of plastic laminate on both sides of book covers made of paper to render them stiffer and more durable and a method for attachment of the laminated book covers when hot glue is used in the book binding process. Hot glue used in book binding will not bond with the plastic laminate. Bonding of the book laminated covers can be achieved by bonding a paper strip to the spine area of the laminated covers. The hot glue will then bond to the paper strip in the book binding process.

Abstract: The invention is an integrated shopping list and coupon folder, formed from a single shopping list sheet. Major food and non-food category listings are provided on the shopping list sheet, as well as blank lines for listing individual items, sizes, brands, and the like. Coupon reminders are also located proximate to each blank line. A bottom tacky strip is located across the bottom edge of the shopping list sheet, and two side tacky strips are located at opposing side edges of shopping list sheet. To convert the shopping list sheet into an integrated shopping list and coupon folder, the completed shopping list sheet is peeled from a pad of such sheets and folded along a central fold line, such that the bottom tacky strip seals against itself and the side tacky strips seal against each other. The integrated shopping list and coupon folder is thus formed.

Abstract: A novel method of advertising in appropriate bound or unbound publications wherein the pages of the publication are folded in half and may be bound along one edge by either saddle-stitching or perfect-binding the pages at the center of the publication together, wherein a carrier member formed of a folded member that is appropriately bound into the publication and has at least one adhesive strip or a plurality of adhesive spots positioned adjacent one edge for mounting a substantially thinner mouse pad thereon for ease of removal and subsequent use. The mouse pad is formed of a thin generally transparent plastic material and carries advertising printed on the undersurface of the pad, which advertising is viewed through the transparent pad; the mouse pad acting to insure that the publication will flip open at the position of the pad so that the viewer or reader will see the advertising early in the inspection of the publication.

Abstract: This invention relates to children's sound books and in particular to books having a fabric covering with sound chips positioned therein and an overlapping cover which closes and locks due to hook and loop fasteners. This invention involves a folding cloth covered book that is appealing to children, pleasant to touch and stretches out into an elongated representation of the book subject matter. Sound chips and a controller are mounted between cloth layers and are coupled to a controller similarly mounted to emit sounds when a particular representation is contacted. The books are intended for children 6 months old and above.

Abstract: A binder, such as a three ring binder, is provided with a magnetizable panel on the front cover of the binder and with a stylus and a permanent magnet erasing device mounted onto the binder. The magnetizable panel may be inset into the cover of the binder, or it may constitute substantially the entire front cover of the binder, or it may be inserted into a transparent pocket on the front cover of the binder. The eraser may be of a broad area permanent magnet type which may be brought into engagement with the entire magnetizable panel; or a smaller linear permanently magnetized eraser may be employed. In one embodiment the magnetizable panel may be pivotally mounted on the front cover of the binder, so that it may be folded over to expose the back of the binder for accessible erasing.

Abstract: A scrapbook includes a spine adapted to bind a variable plurality of binder inserts; includes a substantially rectangular and planar front cover coupled to the spine, where the front cover includes a co-planar storage area, a window in its front surface opening onto the co-planar storage area and an opening into the co-planar storage area; and includes a substantially rectangular and planar, bag-like display sheet that has a substantially transparent front wall and a back wall, and is adapted to receive contents for display therein, and is also adapted to be inserted through the opening of the front cover and into the co-planar storage area of the front cover such that the contents for display may be seen through the window and the transparent front wall.

Abstract: An expandable outside pocket is provided on one panel of a binder. This pocket includes a releasable closure to control expansion of the pocket. In one configuration, the outside pocket includes a zippered gusset, where the zipper can be closed to prevent expansion of the pocket capacity. The gusset and zipper configuration enables the pocket to be expanded when it is desired to increase the size of the pocket in order to accommodate larger items such as books, but also enables the gusset to be held in a non-extendable position when the pocket does not need to be expanded, such as when the pocket is only used to carry papers or slim folders. A second zipper is preferably also provided in order to control access to the pocket. In another configuration, the outside pocket includes gussets along its sides which facilitate expansion of the pocket, and a single zipper provides access to the pocket interior when unzipped and also enables the pocket to expand when unzipped.

Abstract: A machineable envelope assembly includes an envelope and a strip releasably attached to the envelope. The strip extends out from the envelope flap when the strip lies flat relative to the envelope pocket panels to define with the panels a rectangle having a full letter-size paper width. Thus, when the assembly is in a paper tray of a printer or copier, the assembly is configured and sized to engage both sides of the paper tray, so that the envelope is continually aligned and does not skew during a feeding and printing process in the printer or copier. Thereby the address(es) and/or any PC printed postage are printed straight and accurately positioned in the envelope. The assemblies can be stacked into printer infeed trays and automatically fed therefrom for mass printings and mailings. And after being printed and output by the printer, the strips are peeled off of the envelopes, the paper sheet(s) or other desired contents inserted into the envelopes and the envelope flaps sealed closed.

Abstract: A novel file folder, box and panel designed with pre-perforated holes, grooves and slots where the file folder at least comprises two pieces of panel, on which a plurality of holes, grooves, slots, and border indentations are pre-perforated. The file folder panel has at least a flap on its periphery. The pre-perforated holes, grooves and slots are fit for installing a variety of file clips. The pre-perforated holes and slots also permit fixing and winding the elastic trap. The flap, after being erected up in place, allows the file clip and elastic trap to band together. The invention provides a separate design of file folder panels and file clips to form varying combinations, functions and economical benefits as the end-user desires.

A second thin transparent sheet forms a spine pocket between the spine and the second transparent sheet. The opening along the corner between the front cover and the spine also provides access to the spine pocket.

A second thin transparent sheet forms a spine pocket between the spine and the second transparent sheet. The opening along the corner between the front cover and the spine also provides access to the spine pocket.

Abstract: A ring binder and method of making the same. According to a preferred embodiment, the ring binder comprises a front cover stiffening member, a spine stiffening member and a rear cover stiffening member, all of which are appropriately positioned between a matching pair of woven sheets. The woven sheets are made of a synthetic fiber or thread that is ultrasonically weldable. Examples of materials that may be suitable for use as the synthetic fiber or thread include polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene, polyethylene, nylon, orlon, rayon and combinations thereof. The woven sheets are ultrasonically welded together around their respective peripheries and on opposite sides of the spine stiffening member to define, together with the three stiffening members, a front cover, a spine and a rear cover. The binder further includes a paper-retaining ring mechanism, which is secured to the spine or to one of the front and rear covers.
