Abstract: A cover for a for a book-type article includes a front and a back cover, each of the front and the back cover having an inner and an outer surface, and a spine joining the front and the back cover. The cover also includes flaps extending from outer edges of the front and the back covers and being separated therefrom by groove portions, the flaps being folded along the groove portions substantially parallel to the outer surface of the front and back covers. An outer surface of the flaps is joined to connecting portions of the book-type article such that the inner surface of both the front and the back cover and at least one of an inner surface of the flaps and the connecting portions of the book-type article define an air pocket, the air pocket being closed at outer edges of the front and the back cover and being open toward the spine.

Abstract: A filing device for documents having a panel of material with a spine and first and second lateral faces extending therefrom. The panel is a planiform hollow shell construction. Flaps are formed on the distal edges of the lateral faces. One of the flaps has a hook member formed within cut-out portion. The other flap has a cut-out portion with a slit formed at bottom thereof. The slit is suitable for receiving the hook member. The hook member is hingedly connected to the flap at the bottom of the cut-out portion.

Abstract: A portfolio, folder or wallet is formed from a flexible leather or synthetic leatherlike cover member forming front and back covers with one of the covers having a window formed therein and a fabric inlay secured to the cover member around the periphery of the window. The inlay includes a multicolor image formed thereon by transferring the image from an image source, preferably by a transfer sheet using a multicolor photocopier, and thermally transferring the image on the transfer sheet to the inlay. The cover member may be preformed to include flap parts which are folded over to form pockets for various types of folders and wallets. Portfolios or desk folders are formed by including an interior liner and, preferably, stiffening elements in the form of flat rectangular sheets which may include a layer of resilient foam formed thereon and engageable with the backside of the inlay.

The rotating member is rotatably connected to a respective front cover, back cover and/or leaf by positioned within the cut-out portion using the attachment arrangement so that the rotating member is rotatable about an axis extending along a plane of the book.

Abstract: A notebook binder device having a first and second member. The first member having a front cover section. The front cover section having a central opening defining a window. The first member includes a connecting fold. The second member having a transparent, see through, cover and a back. When the first and second members are connected the back is viewed through the window and the transparent middle cover section. The second member includes a connecting fold suitable for connecting the connecting fold of the first member and for connecting the transparent cover section. Rivets and other connecting devices are adapted to connect the first and second members. Additionally, the rivets include male and female paper holding members for holding papers between the front and back covers.

Abstract: In an element for a book which includes a sheet having a slit configured for receiving an item through the sheet, the improvement includes the slit going to two folds of the sheet along fold lines that are transverse to the slit, the folds being at angles that are 90 degrees or less.

Abstract: A folder comprising an upper cover for a ring binder has a lip 13 which is arranged to fit into a normal ring binder press. The lip and a bundle of sheets can then be formed with slots to receive the ring binder in conventional manner. The lower cover 10 has a fold line 14 to allow it to remain free of the press and to wrap around the ring binder and cover the bundle of sheets. The folder itself has no holes in it and can be formed of virtually any material.

Abstract: A casing for a binder or book is disclosed in which there is at least one stiff panel portion and a thermoplastic sheet for covering the panel portion with the end and/or edge portions of the sheet being folded under and secured to the underside of the panel portions. The sheet comprises between about 30% and about 55% copolymer of propylene and ethylene; from 0% to about 12% propylene homopolymer; between 0% to about 20% high density polyethylene; between about 23% and about 35% calcium carbonate or talc filler. The product is especially adapted for high speed machines for making binder casings.

Abstract: A document holder is formed from a single sheet of flat stock folded a plurality times by mutually parallel, transverse folds that together form front and rear pockets. One of the transverse folds delineates the bottom of the front pocket, while another of the transverse folds delineates the bottom of the rear pocket. The bottoms of the front and rear pockets are spaced from each other in a direction perpendicular to the transverse folds a distance of at least about one-half of one inch. Both pockets have opposing sides. At least one of the sides of each of the pockets is closed. By longitudinally spacing the pocket bottoms from each other, stress on the structure of the pockets is greatly reduced when thick documents are inserted into the pockets. The reduction of stress in the structure of the flat sheet of stock forming the document holder markedly prolongs its useful life.

Abstract: A front cover of a diary or notebook is integrated directly by a patterned cover sheet and paperboards; the cover sheet is divided into a bigger section and a smaller section, and the bigger section is then divided into three equal portions from inward to outward. Two paperboards are respectively adhered to the inward first and second portions. Two overlapping openings are provided in the first paperboard and the first portion. The outward third portion is counter-folded and adhered to the outer surface of the second paperboard. The second paperboard is counter-folded and with its outward margin adhered to the outward margin of the first paperboard. Consequently, a holder is formed for a picture or an ornamental card to be inserted into.

Abstract: A photo album includes a binder shaft which has a receiving space therein for receiving APS film cartridges, and an opening communicated with the receiving space for passage of the APS film cartridges. Top and bottom cover sheets and picture holding sheets are hinged to the binder shaft. A cover can close the opening. The picture holding sheets have a plurality of picture pockets which are 3 inches in width and 10 inches in length for receiving three common specifications of APS picture types.

Abstract: A puzzle book having a front cover, a back cover, a plurality of pages disposed between the front and back covers, and a puzzle disposed on the exterior side of the front cover. The puzzle is composed of a plurality of interlocking puzzle pieces which are disposed in a cavity formed in the exterior side of the front cover. Each of the puzzle pieces has a portion of a printed image formed thereon and a plurality of interlocking portions. The cavity in which the puzzle pieces are disposed may have a shape defined by an internal perimeter of a border area, and the border area may have a plurality of interlocking portions which mate with the interlocking portions of the puzzle pieces to help hold the puzzle pieces within the cavity when the front cover of the puzzle book is opened. The puzzle book may also be provided with a single sheet of transparent material which covers at least a portion of the puzzle and which is removable from the front cover.

Abstract: A three ring binder includes a spine, front cover and back cover, each of which includes a substantially solid base plate and an outer plastic shell. The spine and front cover each includes a rectangular picture frame, the outer edges of which are aligned with and welded to the bottom and side edges of the spine and cover. A clear plastic membrane is secured to the frame's interior covering the opening in the picture frame. The frame top edges are spaced inwardly and free of the shell to form insert pockets. Display inserts are slidably mounted within the insert pockets defined by the frames. The spine insert includes an upper folded edge. An L-shaped member extends through an opening in the folded edge, and includes an outer pin head. Pulling upwardly on the pin head withdraws the insert. Mount mats of a semi-solid paper are provided in the pockets to receive thin, flexible paper for insertion into the frame pockets. The inserted mat holds the display material with the insert pocket.

Abstract: An improved cover material for hard- and soft-book covers is disclosed. The material comprises a conventional substrate, such as paper, and a coating that comprises an acrylic binder, the binder having a Tg of -10.degree. to 10.degree. C., and a filler system, the filler system comprising (a) about 2.0% to about 7.0% of silica or a silicate; (b) about 28% to about 38% of calcined clay; (c) about 20% to about 27% of titanium dioxide; and (d) about 30% to about 45% of a white filler pigment. The filler system may additionally comprise 3% to 7% of a pigmentary polymeric particulate. The laminate may also additionally comprise a protective top coat coated over the layer of cover material.

Abstract: A magazine cover is made with a perforated front cover which can be torn along the perforation to reveal the inside front cover while retaining the front cover on the magazine. This is accomplished efficiently by forming the front cover, inside front cover and back cover from a single sheet of material that is folded, perforated, and bound to the magazine pages to form the magazine.

Abstract: A portfolio or desk folder is formed from a flexible leather or synthetic leather cover member forming front and back covers, two generally rectangular stiffening elements, an interior liner and a flap forming a pocket. The cover member, liner and flap are bonded and/or sewn together around the periphery of the portfolio to secure the stiffening members spaced apart from each other with a spine formed therebetween. A generally rectangular window is formed in the front cover and a fabric inlay is secured to the cover member around the periphery of the window. The inlay preferably includes a multi-color image formed thereon by transferring the image from an image source to a transfer sheet by way of a multi-color photocopier and transferring the image from the transfer sheet to the inlay prior to insertion of the inlay in the window. Portfolios with ornamental images of a wide variety may be fabricated.

Abstract: A book particularly suitable and attractive to young children. Relatively stiff front and rear covers open and shut along a side spine to expose and cover a plurality of pages in a typical book fashion. The rear cover is formed of two cardboard or other relatively stiff layers or sheets. A plush toy configured to resemble an upper portion of a figure has a thin base sandwiched between the cardboard layers and adhered therein. Thereby the toy extends above the top edge of the rear cover. On the back of the rear cover is a design aligned and continuous with the toy and depicting a lower portion of the figure. The story written on the pages is about the figure and the figure is preferably illustrated on the front cover. For example, the figure can be a bear, the story can be "Goldilocks and the Three Bears," the figure upper portion can include the bear's head, chest and outstretched front legs (arms), and the rear cover design can be the bottom half of the bear.

Abstract: An academic material organizing folder for maintaining academic papers in an organized orientation. The inventive device includes a front cover and a rear cover pivotally mounted together. A plurality of storage pocket pages are mounted between the covers and each include one or more pockets which can store academic assignments. A schedule listing is printed inside the front cover, and the rear cover includes a note pad, a note card storage slot, pre-printed labels for labeling the pockets, and a diskette pocket for storing computer disks to allow organization of all academic materials for a particular class.

The front cover and the back cover are of a sacklike construction and are capable of holding therein a mono-phase or two-phase liquid. The front cover and the back cover are made of transparent or translucent plastic skin. The mono-phase or two-phase liquid contained in the front cover and the back cover may further contain small solid pieces. Various patterns are brought about on the surfaces of the front cover and the back cover when the mono-phase or two-phase liquid flows about in the interiors of the front cover and the back cover.

Abstract: A document binder made from a single piece of cover material segmented by scores. The user folds the cover along the scores to front from and back panels hinged to a spine having an inward-folded tab. The tab is punched for page binding means such as a comb or spiral rings using conventional office equipment. The tab and binder rings are hidden from view when the cover is closed. In the preferred embodiment the spine is flat, allowing labelling thereon.

Abstract: A restraining device for a loose leaf binder comprises restraining members each having a substantially rigid spacing portion with cover mounting and coupling portions at respective opposite ends. The cover mounting portions extend perpendicularly from respective spacing portions and comprise respective clips for gripping respective free edge portions of respective cover members releasably to mount the restraining members thereon with the respective spacing portions extending perpendicularly from their respective cover members across the binder towards each other. The coupling portions have complementary latching means inter-engageable with a snap action by closing movement of the cover members so that the restraining members bridge the free edges of the cover members maintaining them spaced apart in parallel relation irrespective of the height of papers stacked therebetween and are releasable by application of finger pressure.

Each of the puzzle pieces has a portion of a printed image formed thereon and a plurality of interlocking portions. The cavity in which the puzzle pieces are disposed may have a shape defined by an internal perimeter of a border area, and the border area may have a plurality of interlocking portions which mate with the interlocking portions of the puzzle pieces to help hold the puzzle pieces within the cavity when the front cover of the puzzle book is opened. The puzzle book may also be provided with a single sheet of transparent material which covers at least a portion of the puzzle and which is removable from the front cover.

The cover comprises front, center and back panels that are joined by means of hinges. The front panel is arranged to swing from a stored position overlying the center panel to an open position. The cover is also provided with an attachment device located between the front and center panels for securing the transcript pages therein. The attachment device enables a reader to swing multiple transcript pages from a position overlying the center panel to a position overlying the cover panel when the cover panel is in the open position. The back panel is arranged to swing from a stored position wherein the back panel is in overlying relationship with the center panel to an open position. The back panel also comprises a binding means secured thereto which is arranged for securing exhibits within the cover.

Abstract: A durable, economical to manufacture organizer for a sketchbook designed to store and carry various drawing instruments used by the artist which directly attaches to the sketchbook. The organizer includes a container which selectively attaches to a leaf on a sketchbook and allows the sketchbook to be opened or closed while the organizer is attached to the sketchbook. The container has a flap member which folds and slides between the leaf of the book and the drawing pages in the sketchbook. Hook and loop connector pads and an elastic strap are provided to hold the container over the front surface of the leaf. A lid is attached to the container which may be selectively closed during use. The organizer is made from a single template made of durable material which is easily folded into the container. Suitable connectors are used to hold the walls and parts of the container together.

Abstract: A nested book assembly for a child is composed of a first book having a front cover, a back cover, and a plurality of pages attached between the two covers and a second book having a front cover, a back cover, and a plurality of pages attached between the two covers. The second book has a shape which substantially corresponds to the shape of a cavity formed in the front cover of the first book so that the second book may be frictionally retained within the cavity. The nested book assembly may include one or more puzzle pieces which are frictionally retained within one or more cavities formed in one or more of the books, the overall shape of each of the puzzle pieces substantially corresponding to the shape of a respective one of the cavities in which the puzzle pieces may be frictionally retained.

Abstract: A book like album having a front cover with a hologram, photograph, painting or drawing placed thereon which will have a special meaning to the person who owns it. When opened one side of the inside of the album has a specific portion for poetry, memoir cards, a fragrance pouch, a pocket for the memoir cards and a section to display the union of fingerprints superimposed one over another in a specific shape made possible by stencil superimposition. Abstract: A file cover restraining device includes a strut-like restraining member for bridging the inside surfaces of the file cover members and constructed from first and second elongate strut members interconnected for relative longitudinal sliding movement thereby to adjust a length of the restraining member to match the separation of the cover members and retained in a selected position by manually operable latches. The first strut member has a hook on an end thereof remote from the second strut member, a first cover mounting portion being pivotally connected to an end of the second strut member remote from the first strut member and having adhesive for attachment to an inside surface of one cover member and, a second cover mounting portion has adhesive for attachment to an inside surface of the other cover member and is formed with an eye. The hook and eye are releasably engaged by pivotal movement of the restraining member toward the spine.

Abstract: A notebook system wherein a stack of sheets is bound together using a plurality of disk fastening members insertable into openings of the stack of sheets to retain the sheets in the stack. The disk members have a substantially flat disk-like central surface portion and an enlarged continuous rim portion which extends around the periphery of the central surface portion of the disks. The rim portion extends outwardly in a direction perpendicular to the flat central portions of the disks, and the central surface portion has a radius which is larger than the thickness of a stack of sheets to be bound thereby. Covers for the notebook comprise a front cover and a rear cover which are arranged to have a stack of sheets therebetween.

Abstract: In order to personalize a product of the planning calendar/appointment book type, a binder is disclosed having a flexible cover with top, bottom, and a pair of opposed side edges in a flat, unfolded position. The cover has a plurality of pairs of holes disposed along at least one, and preferably a pair, of hole-locating axes extending generally between the top and bottom edges in parallel relation to one another. The hole-locating axes are disposed generally to one side of and parallel to a cover bisecting axis but nearer the cover bisecting axis than a nearest one of the opposed side edges of the cover. The binder kit also includes a plurality of separate binding components, a flexible cord, and a button-like fastener. The binding components may comprise rings each of which is adapted to be associated with one of the pairs of holes in the cover for binding an insert to the cover.

The tray lid further includes a support ridge projecting below the flat working surface to support the flat working surface in a substantially level orientation when the tray lid is in the extended position.

The holder preferred embodiment includes three substantially rectangular panels, a first spine pivotally connecting a first one of the panels and a second one of the panels, and a second spine longitudinal parallel to the first spine pivotally connecting the second panel and a third one of the panels. Album retaining means are carried by the panels for retaining the photo albums thereon, and negatives storage means are also carried by the panels for storing photo negatives in respective localized association with the album retaining means.

Abstract: A notebook binder having a binder cover, a tray and a tray lid. The tray is fixed to the binder cover and has a peripheral ridge that defines a tray opening for receiving articles. The tray lid includes a first portion that forms a flat working surface and a second portion in sliding engagement with the tray between a closed position wherein the tray lid covers the tray opening and an extended position wherein the tray lid is adjacent the tray opening with the tray opening uncovered. The tray lid further includes a support ridge projecting below the flat working surface to support the flat working surface in a substantially level orientation relative to the binder cover when the tray lid is in the extended position.

Abstract: A loose-leaf binder (40) or other bound work has a slot (44) defined between the outer surface of a cover or spine (48) thereof, and a transparent overlay (46) attached over the spine (48) into which a label (54) can be inserted. The overlay (46) is sealed to the spine (48) along its longitudinal edges. An elongated, flexible label leader (42) extends through the slot (44) and protrudes therefrom at its opposite ends. An adhesive portion (52) is formed on a surface (42e) of an end portion (42b) of the leader (42). The label (54) may be inserted into the slot (44) by releasably adhering an end of the label (54) to the adhesive portion (52) of the leader (42), and pulling on an opposite end portion (42c) of the leader (42), thereby pulling the attached label (54) into the slot (44). A loop portion (42f) extends from the end portion (42b) of the leader (42), and is folded back and adhered to an opposite surface (42d) of the end portion (42b).
