  • Patent number: 5822735
Abstract: A merchandising system for generating and redeeming product discount coupons prints coupons for a selected consumer from a group of consumers by selecting particular coupons from a group of coupons to provide to the selected consumer and printing the coupons. Both the consumer and coupon identifications are encoded on the coupon in machine-readable form whereby the machine-readable code may be read at a point-of-sale terminal using a code reading apparatus. The portion of the read code corresponding to the consumer identification is replaced with a generic code to provide a substitute code. The substitute code is applied to a look-up table in order to determine coupon parameters related to the coupon identification. The entire machine-readable code may also be captured and uploaded to a central database for determining the coupon identification and consumer identification in order to update the database of consumers and coupons.

  • Patent number: 5785355
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a card structure which is a single unit phone card assembly which provides an area to provide variable information which will maintain the variable information in a hidden area until the information is exposed by the removal of an overlamination and allow the card to be detached to be used as a phone card. The phone card is comprised of two layers of material upon which a variable image printed message is applied. A pattern of silicone is positioned on the face of the top sheet and a pattern of varnish is positioned on the bottom of the top sheet. Adhesive is then used on the face of the base sheet and the sheets are slit and crossed over and laminated together. A series of die cuts and laminations are done to finish the card and extra material is stripped away. In use, the consumer will receive the card as a single unit and peel away the overlamination in order to remove the card to reveal the necessary information to make the telephone call.

Abstract: A method of making an improved fragrance-releasing sampler designed to prevent individuals from being unknowingly or involuntarily exposed to the fragrance. Preferably, the steps of the method are performed on a continuous moving web of material by in-line finishing equipment associated with a web offset printing press. The method includes applying slurry of adhesive and fragrance-containing microcapsules to a location on a moving web of material; longitudinally folding a margin of said moving web of material onto said slurry, or positioning a second web of material onto the location of said slurry; partially cutting around said slurry to define a removable element; and transversely severing the continuous moving web of material into individual fragrance-releasing samplers having a removable element carrying a fragrance which can be activated by separating said removable element from said sampler and spreading the thicknesses of the removable element apart.
