  • Patent number: 8827589
Abstract: A concrete lid for an in-ground utilities box includes a plastic reinforcement structure filled with concrete. The plastic reinforcement structure includes one or more plastic sidewalls that protect the edges of the lid from damage. The upper and lower surfaces of the lid are exposed concrete (with the exception of the upper and lower edges of the one or more plastic sidewalls). The one or more plastic sidewalls laterally surround a plastic reinforcement grid, which is centrally located between the upper and lower edges of the one or more plastic sidewalls. The one or more plastic sidewalls can be integrally formed with the plastic reinforcement grid. The plastic reinforcement grid reinforces the concrete lid, eliminating the need for separate reinforcement material. Support struts can be used to support the plastic reinforcement grid while wet concrete is being poured into the plastic reinforcing structure.

Abstract: An intercoupled stator core is separated from a non-vertically oriented (including horizontal) generator frame by decoupling the stator core and frame coupling members and interposing a slidable member between them. Thereafter they are separated relative to each other on the sliding member. The sliding or slidable member may comprise a rail, or alternatively a roller adapted for rolling contact with one of the opposed stator core or generator structures and an engagement surface in contact with the other structure. A system for separating the stator core from a non-vertically oriented generator frame includes first and second raising end plates adapted coupled to axial ends of the stator core. The end plates project outwardly from the generator frame ends, for coupling to a raise mechanism. After the raise mechanism raises the stator core the slidable member is interposed between the stator core and generator frame.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for retaining brake pads in disc brakes, such as air-operated disc brakes utilized on commercial vehicles, and for installing and removing brake pads, without the need to employ brake pad retaining devices which radially over-top the brake pads. A preferred embodiment includes a retaining element, preferably a spring steel clip, having protrusions which face in opposite directions to engage corresponding slots in a brake pad lateral edge and in a brake pad carrier brake pad-facing surface. When installed in a radially-inward direction, the brake pad carrier side protrusion engages the brake pad carrier slot, and cooperates with the brake pad lateral side protrusion to resist brake pad movement in the radially-outward direction. The brake pad carrier side protrusion may be manually pressed toward the brake pad to disengage the protrusion from the carrier slot to permit withdrawal of the brake paid from the carrier.

Abstract: The invention relates to a distribution chute (100) for a charging device of the rotary pivotal type, e.g. for a shaft furnace. The chute has an upstream mounting head (114) and a chute body (112) having an elongated downstream chute portion (116) with a longitudinal axis (L). It further includes at least two lateral suspensions (130) at the mounting head for mounting the chute to at least two corresponding support flanges of the charging device, the support flanges (140) being pivotable about the pivoting axis (B) in a raising sense (R) for raising the outlet (120) to a radially outer-most charging position and in an opposite lowering sense for lowering the outlet to a radially innermost charging position with respect to the rotational axis. The suspensions (130) define a first and a second tilt points, which define, in turn, a tilt axis (T), about which the weight of the chute exerts torque onto support flanges of the charging device when the chute is mounted.
