  • Patent number: 5052096
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for the automated insertion of elastomeric grommets in the legs of a compressor base. The holes in each of the compressor legs are aligned with respective discharge ends of guide cylinders which function to receive the grommets and to force them upwardly through a converging portion thereof to deform a head portion sufficiently such that it passes through the compressor leg hole and is then allowed to spring back to its original shape to secure the grommet within the hole. Provision is also made for assisting the removal of the remaining portion of the grommet from the guide cylinder by a push rod which engages the base of the compressor at the same time that the grommet head passes through the leg opening, such that the entire compressor is moved upwardly to pull the grommet body from the converging portion of the guide cylinders.

  • Patent number: 5040279
Abstract: In the production of a matched set of golf clubs, the most accurate method for matching the flex of each shaft in the set is through the use of an electronic frequency analyzer which measures the vibrational frequencies of the shafts or clubs. With most high quality steel shafts, such frequency measurements are generally reproducible and serve as a reliable index of shaft flexibility. It has been found for some shafts, particularly for composite shafts, that frequency measurements taken along different cross-sectional diameters may vary. For such shafts, it has been found that frequency measurements will be reproducible, if the frequency measurement is made on the same diameter. The diameters used for such measurements are marked on the shaft and then employed in the construction of the golf club, such that the diameter is substantially perpendicular to the striking face of the club head.

  • Patent number: 5038455
Abstract: Method of manufacturing a tube coupling body in a plastics material using injection moulding tooling. The body is formed with a cylindrical bore having enlarged end portions in a mould body and using removable cores. The cores form both the internal bore of the mould body and also end parts of the mould body so that once the cores are removed, end parts of the coupling body are revealed in the mould. While the end parts are still hot from the initial moulding operation, forming dies having tapering end cavities are pressed over the end parts of the moulding to form the end parts of the moulding with both external and corresponding internal tapered surfaces. The tapered internal surfaces of the end parts thus formed provide tapered cam surfaces for engaging the resilient arms of collets to be inserted in the coupling body to receive and lock tubes in the coupling body.
