  • Patent number: 4594765
Abstract: Hand tools described for use in covering a longitudinal portion of a strand with a slit, flexible, protective tube comprise a pair of planar members, each having a face surface with a longitudinal guide groove therein, that may be held face-to-face to define a tubular guide path for the strand, plus other related elements. In use of such a tool, a strand to be covered is moved longitudinally relative to said guide path, a covering tube is guided at an angle into the guide path and as the tube intersects with such path, a portion of its longitudinal slit is opened just prior to the intersection. This results in the strand entering the opened slit portion which then closes over the strand and the resulted covered strand moves away from the point of intersection. In preferred embodiments, an angled portion of a small diameter rod fixed within the tool is used to open the tube slit for entrance of the strand and rollers are used to steer the covering tube from its angled path into the guided path of the strand.

  • Patent number: 4581805
Abstract: A wire-marking clip applicator includes a holder which carries a number of wands, each carrying a unique set of marked C-shaped clips that can be individually dispensed onto a wire from a flared shoe at the end of each wand. Such clip-dispensing wands have been used for the same purpose in the prior art, but the holder makes it possible for the first time to mark a wire with differently numbered clips without picking up, using, and laying down a wand. The holder preferably is formed with a central longitudinal passage into which a wire to be marked can be inserted if one end of the wire is disconnected, thus positioning every flared shoe close to the wire for quickly and easily transfering clips onto the wire.

  • Patent number: 4565392
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a quick connect coupling including a tubular socket or receptacle part having an internal groove formed therein, a tubular nipple or insert part having an external groove formed thereon, and a snap ring. The nipple is insertable into the socket and when so inserted the two grooves are radially aligned. The snap ring is mounted in and extends between the two grooves to lock the socket and the nipple in assembled relation. Prior to final assembly, the snap ring is positioned in the socket groove, and in the space within the socket groove and around the snap ring is applied a relatively viscous fluid. This fluid, which may be a grease, holds the snap ring in the desired position in the groove prior to and during assembly, and it also serves as a lubricant on the ring which facilitates the assembly of the parts. The disclosure also describes the method of assembly of the coupling.

Abstract: An article is attached to a wall by mounting the article on at least one and preferably two or more holders which are in turn screwed to the wall. Each holder has a self-adhesive layer at its end face adjacent the wall and at least one screw hole for fixing it to the wall. The self-adhesive layers then temporarily secure the holders to the wall so that the article can be removed leaving the holders in the desired position on the wall. The screw holes in the holders are then used as a drilling jig for drilling the attachment holes in the wall. Screws are then inserted into the attachment holes, if necessary using wall plugs, and the article is then remounted on the holders. Provision is made for finally securing the article to the holders, for example by the use of spring loaded pins.

Abstract: A method of assembly of a shock absorber is disclosed. A cell, formed of plys of polymeric material impervious to hydraulic fluid and a high molecular gas, while pervious to air and water vapor, is wrapped about the inner tubular container, secured thereto by clips at a midsection of the cell, and effectively inserted into the outer tubular container even though the cell contains a predetermined quantity of gas. The containers can preferably be filled with hydraulic fluid prior to insertion.

  • Patent number: 4435112
Abstract: An improved fastener assembly is designed for securing a workpiece, having known thickness and a hole therethrough and being subject to plastic deformation, to a support. The fastener assembly can apply a high clamping load to the workpiece yet causes minimal cold plastic deformation of it and includes a fastener having a head and a shank projecting from the head. The shank includes an upper portion adjacent the head, an annular rib that protrudes radially outwardly from the upper portion at its extreme opposite the head, and an operative portion engageable in the support. A washer having a hole therein is received about the upper portion of the shank and is formed on one of its faces with an annular rabbet encircling the hole. A sleeve includes a generally cylindrical side wall having an axially extending split discontinuity and circular edges at its opposing axial extremes.

  • Patent number: 4430786
Abstract: A multiple part wheel cover comprises a retainer plate, separate axially inner and outer one-piece spoke assemblies, having spokes extending to outer free-standing ends and a hub cover. The retainer plate and inner and outer spoke assemblies are supported coaxially in predetermined axial spacing. Bending force is applied to the spokes to bend them resiliently within elastic limits sufficiently to align their radially outer ends respectively with recesses in the rim. Thereafter the bending force is progressively relaxed and the supported parts are simultaneously and progressively moved coaxially toward each other to cause the outer ends of the spokes to enter their recesses as the spokes straighten resiliently. The parts are then secured together by clamping the hub cover toward the hub of the retainer plate, whereupon removal of the outer ends of the spokes from their recesses is prevented.

Abstract: Herein presented and claimed is a removable sleeve-to-shaft interlock for a dynamoelectric machine. The invention comprises: a shaft having a groove about its outer circumferential surface; a sleeve having a central bore for receiving said shaft therethrough, said sleeve having an eccentric groove about its inner circumferential surface; at least one detent, said detent being an arcuate spring having an associated radius smaller than the radius of the shaft and an associated height greater than the depth of the shaft groove, said detent depressible during assembly and disassembly; and means for circumferentially positioning said detent in the shaft groove, for example at least one spacer having at least one protrusion which mates with a similarly shaped channel in the non-eccentric groove. After assembly the detent straddles the interface between the shaft and the sleeve, being within both of the grooves simultaneously, thereby preventing axial movement of the sleeve relative to the shaft.
