Publication number: 20150070904Abstract: Soft pneumatic actuators based on composites consisting of elastomers with embedded sheet or fiber structures (e.g., paper or fabric) that are flexible but not extensible are described. On pneumatic inflation, these actuators move anisotropically, based on the motions accessible by their composite structures. They are inexpensive, simple to fabricate, light in weight, and easy to actuate. This class of structure is versatile: the same principles of design lead to actuators that respond to pressurization with a wide range of motions (bending, extension, contraction, twisting, and others). Paper, when used to introduce anisotropy into elastomers, can be readily folded into three-dimensional structures following the principles of origami; these folded structures increase the stiffness and anisotropy of the elastomeric actuators, while keeping them light in weight.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 25, 2014Publication date: March 12, 2015Inventors: Ramses V. Publication number: 20150051541Abstract: Provided is a medical instrument which can reliably protect a sub-lumen and a method of manufacturing the medical instrument. In such a medical instrument, a catheter includes a resin tubular main body (sheath), in which a main lumen and a sub-lumen which is disposed on an outer peripheral side of the main lumen and extends along a longitudinal direction of the main lumen, are formed; a reinforcement layer which is disposed between the main lumen and the sub-lumen and surrounds the main lumen; and a wire which is disposed further on an outer peripheral surface side of the tubular main body than the sub-lumen and is disposed so as to surround the outer periphery of the main lumen. The wire is embedded in the tubular main body and supports the outer peripheral surface of the tubular main body.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 25, 2013Publication date: February 19, 2015Applicant: SUMITOMO BAKELITE CO., LTD.Inventors: Kenichi Kanemasa, Hayao Tanaka, Yoshihiro Abe

Publication number: 20150034235Abstract: A method and apparatus for manufacturing a tool for creating composite components. A sheet metal material is secured over a forming tool in an incremental sheet metal forming machine. The sheet metal material is incrementally shaped with a stylus to form a shape for the tool. The tool is removed from the incremental sheet metal forming machine when the shape for the tool is complete. Composite materials on the tool are laid up, wherein the shape of the tool provides a desired shape for a composite component.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 2, 2014Publication date: February 5, 2015Inventors: Christopher S. Publication number: 20150034200Abstract: In various embodiments, a tubular comprises a tubular outer sheath defining an inner void; one or more core elements or assemblies disposed within the inner void; and a substantially solid filler in various embodiments disposed within and substantially filling the inner void, where the filler is adapted to give the tubular hoop strength in a crush situation and comprises a polymer with a density of at least 1.0. In some embodiments, these core assemblies comprise an extruded polymer layer typically extruded about core elements in a single pass, fitting about them without a sharp edge and defining an outer shape. The resulting tubular can comprise multiple regions which, though substantially filled, are filled with differing fillers densities.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 29, 2014Publication date: February 5, 2015Applicant: OCEANEERING INTERNATIONAL, INC.Inventors: Stephen Owen Mast, Fraser Hynd Thomson, Rosianita Balena, Flavio Vasconcelos

Publication number: 20150030379Abstract: The described embodiments relate generally to methods to enhance cosmetic surfaces of friction stir processed parts. More specifically a method for applying cold spray over a weld line generated by the friction stir processing is disclosed. Methods are also disclosed for blending the cold spray applied over the weld line in with a cosmetic surface portion of friction stir processed parts. In some embodiments cold spray can be used to on its own to create a cosmetic joint between various parts. Structural joints between first and second substrates may also be formed via solid state deposition. Such joints may be strengthened through use of a hidden weld, mechanical interlocking between the substrates, and/or coupling via fasteners.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 24, 2014Publication date: January 29, 2015Inventors: Simon R. Publication number: 20150027882Abstract: A sputtering target for a magnetic recording medium, wherein an average grain area of a B-rich phase is 90 ?m2 or less. A process for producing a sputtering target for a magnetic recording medium, wherein an alloy cast ingot is subject to heat treatment, thereafter subject to primary rolling which includes at least one pass of cold rolling, thereafter subject to secondary rolling, and machined to prepare a target. The obtained sputtering target for a magnetic recording medium has few cracks in the B-rich phase and has a high leakage flux density, and by using this target, it is possible to stabilize the discharge during sputtering, suppress arcing which occurs from cracks in the B-rich phase, and suppress the generation of particles.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 1, 2013Publication date: January 29, 2015Inventors: Shin-ichi Ogino, Yuichiro Nakamura
