  • Patent number: 7003868
Abstract: A copper welding rod is used in an arc-welding operation to form a bead that joins a copper starter sheet and a stainless steel hanger bar. The amperage level of the arc-welding equipment is set to generate heat at the weld site which is above the melting point of copper and below the melting point of stainless steel. This results in a welded joint between the copper bead and the hanger bar and a brazed joint between the copper bead and the starter sheet. Since brazing produces little or no fusion, the area of contact between the two dissimilar metals is limited to the interface between them, which significantly reduces the damaging effects of galvanic corrosion. Another improvement lies in the application of a corrosion-resistant metallic coating on the joint between the hanger bar and the starter sheet using a high velocity oxygen fuel flame spray technique.

  • Patent number: 7000317
Abstract: The present invention is a method for manufacturing an electrical connector comprising an insulative housing with a base side and an opposed side and lateral sides interposed between said base side and said opposed side and at least one conductive contact extending from the base side of the insulation in a first leg and then laterally adjacent the top side of the housing in a second leg. In this method there is provided a mold comprising a first die and an opposed second die all defining an interior cavity and an exterior area. A molding compound input port extends between the exterior area and the interior cavity and a contact receiving aperture extending through the first die from the exterior area to the interior cavity. The conductive contact is then positioned so that the first leg extends upwardly from the exterior area through the contact receiving aperture into the interior cavity. The first leg extends through said interior cavity, and the second leg extends laterally adjacent the opposed die.

Abstract: A swing-down separating means (24) connected to the pivot arm (21) is provided for the initial separation of the two cables (3,4) of a double crimped cable (25). This separating means may be moved such that it is in detachable engagement with a guide and separating part (28) arranged in a first cable deposit trough (26) which may be emptied as a result of a lateral pivotal movement. To transfer the double crimped cables (25) in the separated condition in the emptying position of the first cable deposit trough (26), this first cable guide and separating part (28) may in turn be moved such that it is in detachable engagement with a second cable guide and separating part (29) arranged in a second cable deposit trough (27), which is located below the first cable deposit trough (26) and may be moved laterally in the longitudinal direction.

Abstract: A pin grid array insertion and extraction tool is disclosed that is used to both insert and extract pin grid array connectors. The tool comprises a rigid window frame defined by bars connected to handles wherein the bars define straight slots and ramped slots on an elongated side that engage tabs and sliders of a header and socket of a pin grid array connector. The ramped slots are used to generate mechanical advantage and bring the insertion force seen by an operator's hand down to reasonable levels when engaging or disengaging connector pins to or from their mating receptacles. By using ramped slots the insertion and extraction tool can be made very compact in almost every dimension.

Abstract: An optical fiber cleaver, comprising a blade capable of applying a scratch to the outer peripheral surface of an optical fiber and a pusher pushing the optical fiber to cleave it at the scratched part, wherein it further comprises a reverse-running prevention mechanism which prevents the blade which was moved directly and gave scratch to the optical fiber from being directly moved reversely and giving scratch again to the optical fiber, the reverse-running prevention mechanism comprises a cam moved directly in connection with the blade and a cam follower being in contact with the cam and capable of directly moving the pusher, and the cam presses the pusher automatically against the optical fiber for cleavage after the optical fiber has been scratched by the blade and, after the scratch has been given completely, locked with the cam follower so as to suppress the cam from being moved directly in the reverse direction.

Abstract: A spring element used in a temporary package for testing semiconductors is provided. The spring element is compressed so as to press the semiconductor, either in the form of a bare semiconductor die or as part of a package, against an interconnect structure. The spring element is configured so that it provides sufficient pressure to keep the contacts on the semiconductor in electrical contact with the interconnect structure. Material is added and/or removed from the spring element so that it has the desired modulus of elasticity. The shape of the spring element may also be varied to change the modulus of elasticity, the spring constant, and the force transfer capabilities of the spring element.

Abstract: A method of determining whether a metal terminal including a conductor clamping section for clamping a wire is satisfactorily connected to the wire. First, a first metal terminal including a first conductor clamping section for clamping a first wire thereto is provided. Next, one of a dimensional variation and a ratio of a dimensional change of the first conductor clamping section in an axial direction of the first metal terminal, which are caused by clamping the first conductor clamping section, is calculated. Compressibility comparison data is prepared by calculating, from a section of the first conductor clamping section after clamping the first conductor clamping section, compressibility of the first wire with respect to the first conductor clamping section based on the one of the dimensional variation and the ratio of the dimensional change.
