  • Patent number: 6615487
Abstract: A base material of a peripheral wall and a vane rotor is formed by extrusion molding an aluminum alloy and cutting an extrusion molded article to the desired length. Further, the extrusion molded article can be molded with high accuracy by extracting the aluminum alloy after extrusion. Preferably, 6000 system of Al—Mg—Si is used as an aluminum alloy. The cutting process and polishing process are applied to the roughly molded base material to form the peripheral wall and the vane rotor. By varying the length to be cut, the volume of each retard hydraulic chamber and each advance hydraulic chamber are adjusted. When the volume of the hydraulic chambers are adjusted, the torque for relatively rotating and driving the vane rotor with respect to the housing member can be changed even pressure of working oil is the same.

  • Patent number: 6497038
Abstract: There is provided a method for suspending roller tappets in an internal combustion engine without removal of the cylinder head and gasket. The rocker arm assembly is removed. Each push rod is then removed and replaced with tappet suspension tool to engage a corresponding roller tappet. A suspension tool guide bar is then installed to connect to the tappet suspension tools. The roller tappets are then simultaneously moved to a raised position away from the camshaft forming a clearance between the roller tappets and camshaft bearings. The roller tappets are then secured in the raised position by a securing block. The camshaft can then be removed from the engine block. Alternatively, the rear half of the front cover can be removed by first removing the idler gears, followed by removal of the camshaft, and last removing the rear half of the front cover from the engine case.

  • Patent number: 6317975
Abstract: A method is provided for manufacturing common rails, such as a high-pressure fluid manifold or a block rail that may be use in an accumulator fluid injection system. The method includes providing a main tubular rail with a flow passage extending in an axial direction. A bottomed lower hole is formed generally transverse to the axial flow passage. A pressing force is applied to the bottomed lower hole to generate a residual compressive stress in a circumferential part of the end portion of the bottom hole. The bottom lower hole then is made to communicate with the flow passage in the main rail. Defects that may have been caused by the application of the pressing force then are cut off. The removal of the defects improves an internal pressure fatigue strength, achieves high durability and ensures freedom from leakage.
