  • Patent number: 7172222
Abstract: A latch useable to secure a gate such as typically found on a pontoon boat includes a latch bolt slidably received within a barrel. A spring interposed between the bolt and the back end of the barrel maintains the bolt in an extended position protruding out the mouth of the barrel until the bolt is retracted back within the barrel. A cover carried by the latch bolt prevents debris from entering the spring area in the barrel, which could interfere with the latch's action. The latch secures the gate in its closed position with the bolt extending into a complementary receiver carried by the adjacent wall.

  • Patent number: 6502869
Abstract: A system is disclosed for ensuring that the pod door is firmly and securely retained on the port door of a process tool as the pod door is removed from the pod and stowed in the process tool during workpiece transfer between the pod and process tool. The system includes a latch key protruding outwardly from the outer surface of the port door. The latch key is provided to mate within a slot of a door latch assembly within the pod door. Once the latch key is properly seated within the slot, the latch key is rotated by mechanisms within the port door to decouple the pod door from the pod shell. Such rotation at the same time couples the pod door to the port door. According to the present invention, while the latch key rotates, it simultaneously moves in the rearward direction (i.e., back toward the port door) to thereby pull the pod door into a tight engagement with the port door.

  • Patent number: 5775748
Abstract: A latch device in which joggling of a latch main body is prevented and smooth movement of the latch main body is realized. When the latch main body is pushed-in from a first position of an insertion direction of the latch main body, holding of the first position is cancelled. Due to a spring, a stopper moves in a guide hole and abuts an end of the guide hole and the latch main body reaches a second position at a side opposite an insertion side. If the latch main body is pushed-in from the second position, the latch main body returns to the first position. When the latch main body is pushed-in to the first position and moves, an abutting portion extending from the stopper to a latch main body insertion side slides along an inner surface of a case wall, in a direction in which the stopper fits into the guide hole, along a side edge of the guide hole at a region at which the abutting portion misses the guide hole.

  • Patent number: 4606566
Abstract: A bar type lock mechanism including a locking bar for selectively locking a door having a first edge and a second edge, wherein one of the edges is positioned adjacent a striker plate when the door is closed. The locking bar includes a first end having a locking portion and a second end having a handle portion. A frame assembly secured to the door is provided for slidably and rotatably supporting the locking bar for movement between a retracted position and a projected position. The frame assembly is adjustable to advantageously accommodate doors of different widths. The locking portion of the locking bar is provided with a flattened side as well as a curved side. When the locking bar is first placed in its projected position, the flattened side of the locking portion contacts the striker plate. Afterwards, the locking bar can be rotated to its curved side to generate a camming action thereby more securely closing the door.

  • Patent number: 4524590
Abstract: The door latch with lock includes a support bracket adapted to be mounted on the interior surface of an outer screen or storm door, an elongated bolt slideably and rotatably carried in a guideway on the support bracket, and a transversely extending handle on the bolt which extends through a slot in the guideway and is somewhat longer than the spacing between the outer door and an inner door. When the handle is in a generally horizontal sliding position, the bolt slides freely between a latched position wherein the outer end is received in a keeper on the door frame and an unlatched position wherein the bolt is retracted from the keeper. The bolt and handle can be rotated downwardly to a general vertical locking position when the bolt is in either the latched or unlatched positions, but lock means and actuating means prevent the sliding of the bolt between the latched and unlatched positions unless the handle is rotated to the sliding position.

Abstract: An elongated housing member rectangular in cross section has aligned forward and rear openings formed through opposite ends. The housing has two opposite sides adapted to be connected to a side frame member of a gate with a hollow cross member having an open end located in the rear opening. A bolt located in the housing has a forward end extending through the forward opening and a rear end extending through the rear opening and into the open end of the cross member. A plate connected to the forward end of the housing has a first aperture formed therethrough defining said forward opening and an edge extending beyond a third side of the housing. A slot formed through the third side of the housing has an elongated portion extending along the length of the housing and a short transverse portion extending from the elongated portion next to the plate. A handle connected to the bolt extends through the slot.

  • Patent number: 4437692
Abstract: A back plate serving as a slide bolt frame is designed to be fastened to a door such as a garage door to position a latch bolt slidably mounted on pivot tabs of the back plate. A cover plate has complementary pivot tabs which engage the latch bolt and pivotally mount the cover plate on the back plate. Both plates are also provided with a pair of locking tabs positioned so that one tab of each pair lies adjacent one tab of the other pair for engagement by the shackle of a padlock. In this way, the cover plate is held in an overlying position protecting the padlock. A transverse projection on the latch bolt has a slot engageable with tabs of each pair thereby to lock the latch bolt in either extended or withdrawn position.

  • Patent number: 4364689
Abstract: A manhole cover assembly comprises a seating ring which can be inset in a street or roadway surface and which is formed with a pair of lateral compartments in which respective latches of the plug-like cover can be received. According to the invention, the cover has a pair of opposing radial projections adapted to be received under respective projections of the ring upon rotation of the cover relative to the ring in bayonet action. Each of the latches is in the form of a pawl pivotal about a respective pin on the radial projection and adapted to swing so that a surface of the pawl substantially completely closes the compartment, flush with the upper surface of the ring and an end wall of the pawl abuts or is juxtaposed with the wall of the compartment to prevent rotation of the cover. The pawl can have flanges which, when the pawls are swung upwardly, form handles enabling the cover to be lifted from the ring.

  • Patent number: 4229956
Abstract: A locking mechanism is provided having a frame for mounting on a door or other closure. A movable bolt is supported on the frame for movements between extended and withdrawn positions. An additional member is mounted on the frame for slidable movements generally parallel to the bolt. At least two locking means are incorporated into the locking mechanism, the first of which releasably connects the bolt to the member, and the second of which releasably positions the member with respect to the frame. With the first locking means engaged, the bolt is movable together with the member. With both the first and second locking means engaged, the bolt is locked in the extended position. A securing means engagable with the first locking means prevents release of the first locking means. The locking mechanism is particularly adapted for use on storage compartments wherein a renter of the compartment will gain access by way of the first locking means and the owner will gain access by way of the second locking means.
