  • Publication number: 20030140505
Abstract: A cutting tool (10) adapted to produce chamfers along the edges of drywall panels. The tool (10,110,210) comprises a housing having a channel (18) defined by a base wall (13) and substantially parallel first and second sidewalls (15,17) that are substantially perpendicular to the base wall (13). A primary cutting blade (30) extends from the first sidewall (15) at an angle across the channel (18) toward the second sidewall (17). The primary blade (30) is configured to cut through an edge of a panel placed in the channel (18) as the cutting tool (10,110,210) is caused to move along the edge of the panel, thereby creating a chamfered edge on the panel. A second cutting blade (32) also extends from the first sidewall (15) and is positioned adjacent the primary blade (30) to create a perforation in the edge of the panel prior to the panel encountering the primary blade (30).

  • Patent number: 6578267
Abstract: A portable, hand held exhaust pipe cutter having an air motor to drive a cutting wheel arranged parallel to a drive shaft of the air motor by an angle head gearing device. The cutter makes straight cross-sectional cuts through cylinders by using a feed lever pivotally attached to the air motor that engages the cylinders to be cut and guides them into engagement with the cutting wheel. The feed lever on an opposing end includes a handle that extends along the air motor so that a user can grip both the control lever of the air motor and the handle of the feed lever simultaneously with a single hand.

  • Patent number: 6571477
Abstract: A tool for cutting strapping comprises a housing and a slot defined in a base of the housing. A blade is mounted upon the housing, and a handle is pivotally mounted upon the housing between a position remote from the blade and a position adjacent to the blade. A pusher is pivotally mounted upon the handle and is biased into engagement with the base by a spring so as to normally close the entrance to the slot. When strapping is to be cut, the strapping is inserted into the slot causing the pusher to be moved out of the way against the biasing force of its spring. Upon the strapping passing the pusher, the pusher returns to its original position whereby the pusher now engages the strapping. Manipulation of the handle toward the blade causes the pusher to push the strapping into engagement with the blade thereby cutting the strapping.

  • Publication number: 20030079347
Abstract: A deflectable safety shield extends transversely across a cutting plane in a protective guard position completely overlying the cutting edge of a utility knife. A portion of the shield extends over-center with respect to the cutting edge, thereby tending to hold the shield in the guard position in response to contact of the shield against the operator at the normal angle of engagement during follow-through that accompanies rapid slicing hand movements. The shield is resiliently biased for movement to the guard position by a torsion spring. The shield swings away from the cutting plane automatically in response to pressure engagement of the offset flange portion against the box surface, thus exposing the cutting edge. A stop leg is pivotably coupled to the shield providing the operator the option of limiting the pivotal movement range of the shield in the retracted position, for example, when cutting along the edge of a cardboard box.

  • Patent number: 6543141
Abstract: A safety ruler and guide used with a rotary cutter or the cutting tool for cutting fabric, the ruler designed to protect a user's first hand when holding the ruler on top of the fabric while the second hand is cutting the fabric with the cutting tool. The ruler has a vertical guard mounted exactly upright to a base guide, dividing the base equally into a first side and a second side. Each first side and second side display grids, ruler measurements and measuring scale to enable a right or left handed user to properly read and measure length and width of the fabric being cut. The first side and second side also include a ruler edge for measuring the length of fabric being cut, and serving as a guide and cutting edge for the rotary cutter. The user may then cut the fabric using the cutting tool without the cutting tool or fabric moving during cutting. In the event the cutting tool slips while cutting, the hand holding and applying pressure to the ruler is protected by the vertical guard.

Other features are molded into the plastic at the time of manufacture which allow the invention to be hooked onto a key ring and which further enable line of indeterminate length to be wrapped longitudinally about the invention. Due to low cost of manufacture, the present invention may be disposed of when the blade dulls. The plastic serves as a protective guard even after disposal, offering environmental resistance comparable to that of the blade.

  • Patent number: 5946808
Abstract: This invention is directed to a device designed to cut or score floor covering materials such as vinyl, linoleum, carpet and other sheet goods. The device has a metal base with a straight edge located on the front and rear portions of the meal base. Stabilizing members fixed to the top surface of the metal base provide a support for positioning pins which hold the metal base to the carpet. When cutting vinyl of linoleum floor coverings, the positioning pins are adjusted upward and the non-slip rubber coating on the bottom surface of the metal base prevents the straight edge from moving. A first guided track is fixed to the top surface of the metal base between the front portion of the metal base and the stabilizing members. The first guided; track has a channel designed to receive a cutting member. The cutting member has a vinyl knife or a carpet knife mounted to a second guided track. The cutting member is available in a right handed version and a left handed version.
