Abstract: A single-pole type generator with low loss magnetic core is excited by a field coil that is part of a low loss series resonant circuit tuned to a desired AC power frequency, which may be frequencies such as 50 Hz or 60 Hz or 400 Hz. The series resonant circuit is excited at the resonant frequency. The resulting resonant behavior of the excitation circuit automatically provides the high driving voltages and sinusoidal energy storage patterns needed to efficiently modulate the magnetic field at the desired power frequency. This modulation of the excitation field is amplified by mechanical power from a rotating shaft and modulates the output current and voltage of a single phase output circuit of the single-pole type generator at that power frequency in a sinusoidal pattern thus delivering alternating current power without any requirement for further electronic rectification, commutation or processing.
Abstract: A flux commutating electrical machine includes a stator and a rotor, the stator including at least one armature coil housed in at least one pair of notches and the rotor selectively establishing closed magnetic circuits around sections of the armature coil(s). At least one excitation permanent magnet establishes a magnetic flux in a circumferential direction of the rotor and at least one excitation coil establishes a localized variable magnetic flux in the same circumferential direction as the flux produced by the magnet(s). The magnet or each magnet is housed in a first rotor part defining a first pair of rotor poles, the coil is or the coils are housed in a second rotor part defining a second pair of rotor poles and the rotor parts are separated from each other by essentially magnetically non-conductive areas.
Abstract: An enclosure for an electrical motor of the explosion proof type, wherein each of the openings for the cable supporting the electrical leads of the motor includes an adapter threadedly received in the opening, and a plug coaxially received in the adapter. The adapter and the plug are retained by means of a C-shaped clamp plate which is releasably fixed directly to the wall of the enclosure and which includes an edge portion which is received in a circumferential groove in the plug. The plug may be solid in cases where it closes the spare lead opening, or it may have an internal passage through which the electrical cable extends.
Abstract: A stator assembly for a non-static cogging brushless DC motor includes a hollow coil forming member fabricated on a nonconductive and nonmagnetic material having an array of generally radially extending teeth. Each tooth has a pair of generally radially extending sidewalls that extend substantially the entire axial length of the coil forming member. A plurality of coils is wound on the teeth of the coil forming member so that the coils are disposed in surrounding relationship with respect to the radially extending sidewalls of the teeth. The teeth on the coil forming member may extend either radially inwardly or radially outwardly thereof.
