Abstract: The present invention is a technique for locating and identifying a failed filter/arrester in an underground conveyance such as a fiber optic cable. A sensor is installed in the filter/arrester housing to sense grounding of a cable locating frequency. The sensor will monitor the cable locating signal that is normally on the cable and blocked by the filter arrester to ground. A small radio frequency oscillator (85 to 88 Hz), also installed inside the filter housing, is activated by the sensor. The RF signal is detected above ground with standard cable locating equipment. A warning indicator such as an indicator light may also be installed on the outside of the filter housing. The indicator is also activated by the sensor. In that way, the particular failed filter can be identified if multiple filters are installed at that location. The power that will be required to operate the RF transmitter and indicator will be obtained from the voltage passing through the cable.

  • Patent number: 6832847
Abstract: A Cycle Wheel Safety Light System uses double-sided shaped A-C electro-luminescent light panels, spaced about the wheels of a bicycle. A DC battery powers the panels via a DC-AC inverter. Alternatively, an alternator mounted between the wheel axle and frame utilizes the bicycle rider's motive power as the source of energy. Another variation combining the best features of both the battery and inverter is use of an alternator to charge (via a rectifier) a smaller battery or other energy storage device such as a ‘supercap’. The panels may be of various colors to improve the “WOW!” factor and encourage adolescent use.

Abstract: A door handle module of a car optionally illuminates for locating and/or safety purposes. The illuminating portion of the door handle module can be arranged on either the handle portion or the base portion. When the driver unlocks the door, particularly when practiced via a remote car controller, the illuminating portion of the door handle module emits light so that the driver can find the handle portion easily to open the door. On the other hand, when the driver or passenger is ready to get off the car, the illumination portion also emits light to warn the oncoming vehicles or pedestrians to prevent from hitting on the opening door.

Abstract: A vehicle safety system used to enhance the safety of motorists by emitting warning signals from a remote unit. The vehicle safety system incorporates a local unit attached to an associated vehicle that detects the operating conditions of the associated vehicle and emits wireless transmissions of the operating conditions to the remote unit, which is removable and portable relative to the associated vehicle. Upon receiving the wireless transmissions, the remote unit produces warning signals based upon the wireless transmissions received.

  • Patent number: 6799424
Abstract: A hydraulic circuit comprises a first and a second merging line capable of supplying pressure oil from a third pump for a third circuit to directional control valves in a first and a second circuit, respectively, and a merging valve for selectively communicating or cutting off the first and the second merging line with or from the third pump. The merging valve has a first shift position at which the third pump is connected to the second merging line, and a second shift position at which the third pump is connected to the first and the second merging line. The merging valve is shifted continuously between the shift positions. The hydraulic circuit can efficiently distribute pressure oil supplied from the third pump to the first and/or second circuit as well, and can prevent lowering of the operability of each of actuators connected to the first or second circuit.
