  • Patent number: 11027140
Abstract: The invention provides an implantable vagal nerve stimulator having a “passive” generating power source that harvests the stomach's movements to transform kinetic energy to electrical charge without the need for a battery. In this regard, the invention is self-powering and is automatically timed to stomach peristalsis. While sporadic stimulation to the vagal nerve would seem too infrequent to cause weight loss effects, electrical stimulation delivered at the optimal time (e.g., during food consumption) has been found to optimize the effects of vagal nerve stimulation, giving the user's brain a “full stomach” signal before the user over-consumes food.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques to deactivate security tags associated with purchased products via a mobile application by using the Near Field Communications (NFC) protocol or other near field wireless capabilities of the mobile device to communicate with a stand-alone deactivator. In some instances, the mobile device may be configured to deactivate either single tag (“single deactivation”) or a plurality of tags (“bulk deactivation”) using an authorization code. Features of the present disclosure provide advantages over conventional systems in terms of convenience for the customer and lower hardware requirements. Specifically, unlike current systems, the stand-alone deactivator of the present disclosure does not need to be part of or connected to the POS network to enable or inhibit the deactivation of security tags. The information needed to enable deactivation may be transferred to the deactivator using the NFC or other near field wireless capabilities of a mobile device.

  • Patent number: 10922826
Abstract: This disclosure is generally directed to systems and methods for operating a monitoring system incorporating a digital twin. In one exemplary method of operating the digital twin, one or more images captured by an imaging apparatus may be used to define a first portion of a surveilled area as a zone of primary interest and a second portion of the surveilled area as a zone of secondary interest. The digital twin may be utilized to primarily focus on the zone of primary interest such as for determining a pattern of movement of one or more objects in the zone of primary interest. One or both of the zone of primary interest and the zone of secondary interest may be dynamically redefined upon receiving additional images that indicate a modification in the pattern of movement of one or more objects in the surveilled area.

  • Patent number: 10921419
Abstract: A transceiver may wirelessly transmit a communication signal at a first frequency and a sensing signal at a second frequency. The communication signal may include a command that causes a backscatter node to modulate impedance of an antenna, and thereby modulate reflectivity of the backscatter node. The communication signal may also deliver wireless power to the backscatter node. While the impedance is being modulated in response to the command, the transceiver may transmit the sensing signal and measure wireless reflections. The power of the sensing signal may be much lower than that of the communication signal. The transceiver may frequency hop the sensing signal in a wide band of frequencies and take measurements at each frequency in the hopping. Based on the measurements, a computer may determine time-of-flight or phase of a reflected signal from the backscatter node and may estimate location of the backscatter node with sub-centimeter precision.
