When the apparatus receives a radio signal, a message contained in the radio signal is written to the message memory. At the same time, the number of unconfirmed messages stored in the unconfirmed message number storage is incremented by 1 (one). An LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) and an alert section cooperate to alert the user of the apparatus to a call incoming. When the user presses a switch in response to the alert, a CPU (Central Processing Unit) determines that the user has confirmed the received message.
