  • Patent number: 8878689
Abstract: A meter reader for reading a meter have a display portion displaying a total output of a quantity being metered and plural incremental outputs defining the total output. The meter reader includes a sensing mechanism for sensing one of the plural incremental outputs in the meter display portion, and a processing unit coupled to the sensing mechanism for accumulating incremental outputs sensed by the sensing mechanism and for determining accumulated meter output over a time period based on the accumulated incremental outputs. Also included is an output mechanism for outputting the accumulated meter output determined by the processing unit. In one example, the sensing mechanism includes a sensor for sensing only a least significant incremental output in usage included in the meter display portion, and an emitter for illuminating the least significant incremental output included in the meter display portion.

  • Publication number: 20140313048
Abstract: Home use of sensors has been limited to rudimentary devices such as using a thermometer or sensors installed in homes by third party for security. An affordable sensor with advanced capabilities as used in commercial applications has not been possible. Smartphone or smart tablets, with advanced computing ability, has not been a platform for sensor communications though the capability exists. Recent products such as the iCelsius convert the iPhone into a data logger for measuring temperature and relative humidity. However, these sensors are tethered to the device and not wireless. A cost effective sensor solution for consumer application with remote monitoring capability is now possible using WiFi based wireless sensors that will work with the smart phones and the cloud based computing on the internet; such an integration of these three platforms in such a way that the user does not have to intervene to make it all work seamlessly is the purpose of this invention.

Abstract: An environmental monitoring device that monitors the operation of a legacy electronic device is described. In particular, a sensor in the environmental monitoring device provides sensor data that represents an environmental condition in an external environment that includes the environmental monitoring device. This environmental condition is associated with the operation of the legacy electronic device in the external environment. The environmental monitoring device analyzes the sensor data and provides feedback about the operation of the legacy electronic device based on the analyzed sensor data. Moreover, the sensor provides the sensor data without or excluding communication and/or electrical coupling between the environmental monitoring device and the legacy electronic device. In this way, the environmental monitoring device facilitates monitoring, analysis and feedback of the sensor data without directly interacting with the legacy electronic device.

Abstract: A method for facilitating collection and recall of buried asset data on a mobile device on a network is provided. The mobile device transmits current position data of the mobile device to a server via the network, and receives from the server, a) buried asset data including depth data and electrical signal data for one or more buried assets, wherein the buried asset data corresponds to the current position data, and b) a stored image of a physical area corresponding to the current position data, wherein the stored image comprises markings indicating a position of the buried assets. The mobile device further displays the buried asset data from the server, and reads a current image of the physical area of the mobile device. The mobile computing device further displays the stored image overlaid onto the current image, and determines that the stored image is aligned with the current image.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for identifying a suspect through location and time events is provided herein. During operation a central server continuously receives updates from multiple networks regarding device identifiers and associated access points. When an event (e.g., a crime) occurs at a certain location, an access point(s) near the event are identified and devices associated with the access point(s) at the time of the event are determined. The identified devices are then utilized to determine potential suspects.

Abstract: A system comprising multiple devices that are operable when servicing a device-under service is described. A DAQ device is operable to generate input data from input signals received from the device-under-service and to transmit the input data to a display device via a wireless network. The DAQ device comprises multiple buffers to store the input data. One of the buffers stores two frames of the input data, which can be live input data or historical input data. At any one time, a display at the display device visually presents one frame of input data for each respective input channel of the DAQ device. At any one time, a display at the DAQ device visually presents a half-frame of input data for each respective input channel of the DAQ device. Another buffer at the DAQ device can store more than two frames of input data including historical input data.
