  • Patent number: 8315343
Abstract: A composite signal including a plurality of component signal streams is processed using QR-decomposition to detect symbols and calculate a decision metric for each of the signal streams (202). Soft serial interference cancellation is performed on the composite signal based on the symbols detected for different ones of the signal streams and a ranking of the signal streams (204). The symbols are re-detected and the decision metric re-calculated for each signal stream based on soft serial interference cancellation results (206). The different decision metric calculations for at least one of the signal streams are compared to determine whether symbol detection is more accurate with or without soft serial interference cancellation (208). The signal streams are decoded using symbols detected based on soft serial interference cancellation results when symbol detection is determined to be more accurate with soft serial interference cancellation (210).

Abstract: A wireless remote control system is provided. This system includes a remote controller, plural detectors, and a decision module. The detectors are used for detecting the frequency a wireless signal emitted by the remote controller and respectively generate a detecting result. Based on at least one frequency difference between the detecting results, the decision module determines how the remote controller is moving and thereby generates a control signal. Because the decision module needs no knowledge of the frequency of the emitted wireless signal, the wireless remote controller has the advantages of small size, low cost, and low power consumption.

  • Patent number: 8290101
Abstract: A wireless receiver including receiving antennas, frequency-space transformers, noise wave removers, a back-end signal processor, a pattern detector, a broadcast interruption detector, and a back-end controller. The frequency-space transformers convert signals received by the antennas into frequency-space signals. The noise wave removers each at least perform the calculation of a transmission line coefficient matrix and the calculation of an inter-antenna covariance matrix on the frequency-space signals. A controller controls the back-end signal processor to operate when the multicarrier transmission waves have been detected to be interrupted. The noise wave removers each perform the calculation of the inter-antenna covariance matrix when a broadcast interruption detector has detected the interruption of the multicarrier airwaves. Thus, the wireless receiver removes noise generated within it, thereby having high reception sensitivity.

  • Patent number: 8111185
Abstract: A universal remote control device (100) is provided which is able to operate different electronic devices such as television sets, recorders, set top boxes, and audio systems. The universal remote control device (100) is provided with a database (10) in which control data collected from a plurality of individual physical remote control units (2) is stored in a structured manner. To enable the memory storing the database (10) to be kept small, repetitious and/or redundant control data is omitted. In addition, the database structure uses a hierarchical structure and inheritance. The control data of a physical remote in memory may be stored, therefore, in part in a child physical remote and also in one or more parent or grandparent virtual remotes. Such a structure enables control information which is common to a number of remotes to be stored in just a single occurrence.

  • Patent number: 8081102
Abstract: A database of codesets for a remote control device includes codeset information blocks for derivative codesets and codeset information blocks for nonderivative codesets. A codeset information block for a derivative codeset includes: a bit indicating that the block is for a derivative codeset, a plurality of bits each of which corresponds to a respective one of a plurality of fields in a referenced codeset information block, and a pointer that points to the referenced codeset information block. The digital value of a bit determines whether information from the corresponding field in the referenced block will be used as part of the derivative codeset or whether such information is contained in the derivative codeset information block itself. The sizes of the fields in the referenced block are predetermined or are determinable, so a field in the referenced block can be located if its bit is set in the referencing block.

  • Patent number: 8077798
Abstract: A DTV transmitting system includes a pre-processor, a block processor, and a trellis encoder. The pre-processor pre-processes enhanced data by expanding the enhanced data at an expansion rate of 1/H. The block processor includes a first converter, a symbol encoder, a symbol interleaver, and a second converter. The first converter converts the expanded data into symbols. The symbol encoder encodes each valid enhanced data bit in the symbols at an effective coding rate of 1/H. The symbol interleaver interleaves the encoded symbols, and the second converter converts the interleaved symbols into enhanced data bytes. The trellis encoder trellis-encodes the enhanced data outputted from the block processor.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for configuring signal lines with idle codes is disclosed. According to one embodiment, data transmission system (100) may include encoders (112, 114, 116 and 118) that transmit data over signal line lanes (Lane 0 to Lane n). In an idle state, an encoder (112, 114, 116 and 118) may output one of at least two idle codes (IDLE A and IDLE B). One idle code (IDLE A) may indicate a first lane of a group of lanes. Another idle code (IDLE B) may indicate subsequent lanes of a group of lanes.

Ranging can be achieved using a single pulse emitting device operating in range spaced relation with a minimum of a single signal transmitter and a single digital receiver and processing circuitry. In general a plurality of transmitting pulsed emitters may be ranged and positioned virtually simultaneously in 3-dimensions (XYZ coordinates) using a configuration of a plurality of digital receivers arranged in any fixed 3-dimensional configuration. Applications may involve at least one single transmitter to receiver design to determine range, or at least one transmitted reflecting signal off from an object to determine range.
