  • Publication number: 20080314149
Abstract: Devices usable as sensors, as transducers, or as both sensors and transducers include one or more nanotubes or nanowires. In some embodiments, the devices may each include a plurality of sensor/transducer devices carried by a common substrate. The sensor/transducer devices may be individually operable, and may exhibit a plurality of resonant frequencies to enhance the operable frequency bandwidth of the devices. Sensor/transducer devices include one or more elements configured to alter a resonant frequency of a nanotube. Such elements may be selectively and individually actuable. Methods for sensing mechanical displacements and vibrations include monitoring an electrical characteristic of a nanotube. Methods for generating mechanical displacements and vibrations include using an electrical signal to induce mechanical displacements or vibrations in one or more nanotubes.

Abstract: A movable barrier operator remote control transmitter kit comprises a transmitter (200) and, if desired, a user discernable listing (402) of a plurality of different remote control signal instruction protocols. This transmitter can be configured and arranged to automatically incrementally configure the transmitter using a series of protocols with each assertion of a user input (203) and also to cause the test configured transmitter to transmit a test transmission (701) to permit the user to ascertain whether a corresponding movable barrier operator responds positively. This listing can present the protocols in an order that matches a sequential order (401) by which the transmitter controller (201) will incrementally configure and test the transmitter. User discernable instructions (601) can provide advice to a user with respect to using the list (402) to quickly advance through the listing (401 to begin the compatibly testing with a particular selected candidate protocol.

  • Patent number: 7436345
Abstract: A “call relative counted” script instruction is interpreted by a script interpreter of an eight-bit, register-based, virtual machine. In one embodiment, the script instruction has a first argument field and a second argument field. Interpreting the script instruction causes a jump to a location identified by a label in the first argument field. After a number of script instructions identified by the second argument have been interpreted, the interpreting of script instructions automatically returns to the next script instruction after the call relative counted script instruction. In one example, the first argument is a label, the label in turn identifying the location to jump to. In another example, the first argument directly indicates the location to jump to. The instruction is useful in allowing multiple higher-level scripts to reuse different parts of a common lower-level block of script. The common block performs a common function required by the higher-level scripts.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to simplified monitoring and transmission of a binary switch position by means of coded switching, in which corrections caused by different pulse edge delays are eliminated. According to the disclosure, an auxiliary voltage which is to be transmitted when the switch position is closed is coded using two identical pulse edges of two different pulses, that is to say using either the two connection edges or the two disconnection edges of the two pulses. As a result, the previously known pulse duration modulation is replaced with modulation of the delay time between the two pulses. The two pulses mentioned can be repeatedly generated inside a basic period, which is independent of the auxiliary voltage, and have, for distinguishing purposes, a connection duration or pulse length which is different but is independent of the auxiliary voltage.

A higher level script that is interpreted by a script interpreter of the virtual machine can then use the new functionality provided by the added API. The API may, for example, provide access to hardware of the underlying platform that is otherwise inaccessible to a higher level script. The API is communicated to the virtual machine via the bidirectional link and the API is loaded onto the virtual machine. The API is assigned a reference that a higher level script can use to call the API. Using this feature, various APIs can be loaded and their operations tested. Unwanted machine code APIs can also be erased from the virtual machine.

Abstract: A script is stored on a remote control device. Adjacent marks are combined into a larger mark and adjacent spaces are combined into a larger space. From these marks and spaces, a mark/space table and a string of timing information are generated. The mark/space table and the string of timing information are then used to generate an operational signal that is transmitted from the remote control device. In one embodiment, only one mark/space table and one string of timing information is ever present on the remote control device at one time. • Patent number: 7088804
Abstract: Systems, methods, protocols and apparatus for information exchange and synchronization using DTMF signaling over telephone communication channels are provided. Information is packetized and converted from one format, e.g., ASCII formatted data, to another format, e.g., BCD formatted data. The information is wrapped in one or more packets by a sending apparatus, each packet including one or more headers, such as a Name and Length field that identify the information being exchanged and the amount of data included in the packet payload/value field. The data in the packets are converted from BCD to DTMF signals and are transmitted over a telephone communication line to a receiving apparatus. The receiving apparatus converts the DTMF signals back to BCD formatted data and processes the packets to obtain the information contained therein.

  • Patent number: 7039122
Abstract: A programmable waveform generator forms a composite transmission signal containing multiple information signals using a reduced number of hardware components to modulate the phase and amplitude of the carrier signal. A signal generator develops baseband direct sequence spread spectrum digital bit streams from corresponding input data signals. The values of the digital bit steams are used to simultaneously control states of phase modulators and variable attenuators which modulate the phase and amplitude of the in-phase and quadrature carrier components. The programmable waveform generator can be used to implement an interplex modulator producing a constant-envelope composite signal with fewer phase modulators and attenuators.

  • Patent number: 7034712
Abstract: A hand-held remote control unit for controlling the operation of a television and other electronic audio/video components, such as a VCR, DVD player, or home stereo, operates in a different mode for use as a video game controller. The location and position of the push buttons on the remote controller unit are arranged such that a subset of the buttons that are used for the television remote control are operable in a different mode as a video game controller. A user rotates the remote control unit from a vertically upright position to a horizontal position to use the remote control unit for operating a video gaming system. When used as a video game controller, the controller indicates which of the subset of buttons on the remote control are to be used for operating the video game.

  • Patent number: 7015791
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for a key-less system for actuating a lock responsive to a valid OPEN signal. A first portion is continuously coupled to a power source and a second portion receives power from the source only when a coupling switch is ON. The first portion comprises a keypad for entry of a lock actuation code, and a detector that senses the first keystroke and turns the switch ON. The second portion includes an RF transmitter and preferably a memory with valid actuation codes stored therein, and a processor coupled to the memory, to the keypad and to the RF transmitter. When the entered and stored keystrokes match, the RF transmitter sends an OPEN signal to the lock. The method comprises detecting the first keystroke, turning on the power switch ON, comparing the entered and stored keystrokes and if matched, transmitting an OPEN command to the lock.

  • Patent number: 6973139
Abstract: A base station transmitter having a digital predistorter and predistortion method is disclosed. The predistortion is accomplished by delaying a digital input signal, predistorted by a predistortion unit, for a predetermined time. A coefficient of a non-linear characteristic model of a power amplifier is generated using a digital output signal, converted from an amplified output signal of the power amplifier, and the delayed digital input signal. A reference signal is randomly generated to produce a predistortion model having a characteristic opposite to the non-linear characteristic of the power amplifier. A predistortion error function is extracted by subtracting the reference signal and the non-linear characteristic model of the power amplifier, after the produced coefficient is applied to the model. A coefficient of the predistortion unit is controlled adaptively using the predistortion error function.
