With respect to display of each color by a liquid crystal display device adopting a field sequential method, a period is provided for which light sources of each color remain turned on until a turning-off delay time has elapsed since an end timing of a subframe period. The turning-off delay time relating to LEDs for which an off state begins in a preceding subframe period is configured in such a way as to be shorter than a turning-on delay time relating to LEDs for which an on state begins in a succeeding subframe period. Abstract: A display device includes: a plurality of pixels, each of the pixels including: a switching transistor; a relay transistor; a first capacitor; a driving transistor; and an organic light emitting diode (OLED). The OLED emits light according to a driving current from a first power source voltage, and a light emitting period for the OLED is one of a first light emitting period that is not temporally overlapped with a scan period in which data are written to the pixels or a second light emitting period that is temporally overlapped with the scan period. A duty of the light emitting period is controlled by controlling a time when a second power source voltage is applied as a low level voltage within the first light emitting period or controlling a time when the second power source voltage is applied as a low level voltage within the second light emitting period.

Abstract: Disclosed are methods and apparatus for rending colors in displays, such as adjustable interferometric modulation displays that can produce many colors with different sub-sets of primary colors. Received colors to be rendered are analyzed to determine when the colors to be rendered are within a predefined neutral region of a color space. Temporal primary colors may be generated to be used for rendering the received colors in a color space that are generated by temporal modulation using at least two temporal subframes to mix first and second primary colors of a display, such as white and black primaries. The temporal primary colors are used when rendering colors that lie within the predefined neutral region of the color space. When white and black primaries are used for temporal modulation, the produced grayscale temporal primaries are more robust than using two complementary colors, affording more robust neutral and near neutral colors.

Abstract: Disclosed embodiments relate to techniques for operating a backlight unit of a display device in a redundant mode and a non-redundant mode in the event of an open circuit condition or short string condition. For instance, in a redundant mode, multiple LED strings are driven to provide a first quantity of light, such that the combined output from all LED strings is capable of providing a total light output corresponding to a maximum brightness setting for the display device. In the case that one of the LED strings fails due to an open circuit condition or short string condition, the remaining LED strings may be driven to provide a second quantity of light that is greater than the first, such that the combined light output from the remaining LED strings provides the same total light output for achieving the maximum brightness setting.

Abstract: In a timing controller and a display apparatus, the timing controller generates an internal enable signal based on an external enable signal and processes image data using the internal enable signal. The timing controller determines a width of each of the plurality of pulses of the external enable signal and subtracts a predetermined reference value from the count value to generate a control signal faster than an effective period of the external enable signal. The control signal is applied to a driver which drives a display panel on which an image is displayed. In an exemplary embodiment, the control signal serves as a vertical start signal which starts an operation of a gate driver applying a gate signal to the display panel, thus preventing or effectively eliminating a delay of the image data applied to the display panel.
