Abstract: A semiconductor integrated circuit and corresponding display panel and electronic apparatus. A pixel element includes a self-luminous element and a drive transistor connected to a power supply line. In an emission period of the self-luminous element, an active voltage and an intermediate voltage are sequentially applied between the power supply line and a potential line with a pulse-shaped waveform such that a predetermined luminance duration is obtained in the emission period. In a non-emission period of the self-luminous element, an off-state voltage is applied between the power supply line and the potential line so as to maintain the self-luminous element in a non-emission state.

Abstract: A circuit and method of driving a display panel requiring gray scale control wherein the voltage applied to a row of pixels is equal to the sum of voltages of opposite sign with respect to ground applied respectively to the row electrode and column electrodes whose intersection with the row defines the pixels. Gray scale is realized through modulation of the voltage applied to the column electrodes. Typically for video application, 256 individual gray levels are required corresponding to luminance levels ranging from zero (no emissive luminance) to full luminance. The required luminance for each gray level is not a linear function of the gray level number but rather corresponds to an approximate quadratic function of this number. The present invention facilitates generation of luminance values for each gray level that approximates this functional dependence (i.e. Gamma corrected) with a non-linear voltage ramp terminated by a digital clock having 256 (8 bit) resolution.

Abstract: Improved evaluation of temporal response of a display is achieved by displaying a plurality of test patterns. The number of pixels of each test pattern driven at the first driving level is greater than the number of pixels driven at the second driving level. In addition, each pixel is driven at a first driving level in multiple consecutive test patterns (e.g., for multiple consecutive frames) such that the actual output of the pixel when driven at the first driving level matches the uncompensated “ideal” output of that pixel when driven at the first driving level. In other words, the output of the pixel driven at the first driving level would be same as the output of that pixel after having been driven at the first luminance for a time period exceeding the maximum fall time of the pixel. The pixel is then driven at the second driving level.
