  • Patent number: 9651736
Abstract: Some embodiments relate to a method of processing a workpiece. The workpiece includes a first surface region having a first wettability coefficient, and a second surface region having a second wettability coefficient that differs from the first wettability coefficient. A liquid, which corresponds to an optical structure, is dispensed on the first and second surface regions of the workpiece, wherein the liquid self-aligns to the second surface region due to the difference between the first and second wettability coefficients. The self-aligned liquid is hardened to form the optical structure.

Abstract: A sheet conveyance apparatus includes a convey unit, an obtaining unit, a determining unit, and a control unit. The convey unit conveys sheets. The obtaining unit obtains attribute information about sheets used in a job. The determining unit determines a first interval and a second interval. The first interval is an interval between sheets that are conveyed by the convey unit in a case where the attribute information about the sheets obtained by the obtaining unit is first attribute information. The second interval is an interval between sheets that are conveyed by the convey unit in a case where the attribute information about the sheets obtained by the obtaining unit is second attribute information that is different from the first attribute information. The control unit performs control to make the convey unit convey sheets at the interval between sheets determined by the determining unit.

  • Patent number: 9415418
Abstract: An inkjet-based process for programmable deposition of thin films of a user-defined profile. Drops of a pre-cursor liquid organic material are dispensed at various locations on a substrate by a multi-jet. A superstrate that has been bowed due to a backside pressure is brought down such that a first contact of the drops is made by a front side of the superstrate thereby initiating a liquid front that spreads outward merging with the drops to form a contiguous film captured between the substrate and the superstrate. A non-equilibrium transient state of the superstrate, the contiguous film and the substrate then occurs after a duration of time. The contiguous film is then cured to crosslink it into a polymer. The superstrate is then separated from the polymer thereby leaving a polymer film on the substrate. In such a manner, non-uniform films can be formed without significant material wastage in an inexpensive manner.

Abstract: A computer-controlled system determines attributes of a frexel, an area of human skin, and applies a modifying agent (RMA) at the pixel level, typically to make the skin appear more youthful and so more attractive. The system scans the frexel, identifies unattractive attributes, and applies the RMA, typically with an inkjet printer. The identified attributes relate to reflectance and may refer to features such as irregular-looking light and dark spots, age-spots, scars, and bruises. Identified attributes may also relate to the surface topology of the skin, for more precisely enhancing surface irregularities such as bumps and wrinkles. Feature mapping may be used, for example to make cheeks appear pinker and cheekbones more prominent. The RMA can be applied in agreement with identified patterns, such as adding red to a red frexel, or in opposition, such as adding green or blue to a red frexel, according to idealized models of attractiveness.

  • Patent number: 8810850
Abstract: A controlling device may perform an image process on specific image data so as to generate processed image data, select a process mode from a plurality of process modes, including a first process mode and a second process mode, and perform the image process according to the selected process mode. The first process mode may be for performing the image process by performing, in order to compensate variability of discharging amounts of the liquid droplets discharged from the plurality of nozzles, a specific process on a target pixel within target image data using correction data for a target nozzle. The target nozzle may be to form a dot at a position on a print medium corresponding to the target pixel. The second process mode may be for performing the image process by performing the specific process on the target pixel within target image data without using the correction data for the target nozzle.

  • Patent number: 8791174
Abstract: An ink composition includes a particulate pigment, a hydrocarbon vehicle, an organic polyamine and an organic polyacid. A ratio by weight percent of the organic polyamine to the organic polyacid in the hydrocarbon vehicle is sufficient to render a conductivity of the ink composition to equal to or less than 15 nanosiemens per centimeter. The ink composition is prepared by combining the particulate pigment with a composition that includes the hydrocarbon vehicle, the organic polyamine and the organic polyacid. The combination is subjected to conditions under which the particulate pigment becomes dispersed in the composition.

  • Patent number: 8778556
Abstract: A method of fuelling an intermediate-temperature solid oxide fuel cell comprises providing a fuel rich in carbon monoxide to an anode region, after the fuel has contacted a water gas shift reaction catalyst in the region of the anode, so that the water gas shift reaction occurs due to the presence of residual water in the fuel, and/or steam produced at the anode. A fuel cell assembly comprises a gas impermeable electrolyte between an anode and a cathode, first means for the supply of oxidant to the cathode, and second means for the supply of fuel to the anode that comprises a water gas shift reaction catalyst to catalyse the water gas shift reaction between carbon monoxide in the fuel and water/steam occurring as a residual in the fuel or from the reaction at the anode. A method also applies a catalyst to a metal substrate by ink-jet printing.

  • Publication number: 20140192104
Abstract: An image forming apparatus forms an image on a recording medium by forming a raw image on an intermediate transfer member with a liquid ink containing a coloring material and transferring the raw image onto the recording medium. The apparatus has an applicator unit for applying a reactive liquid onto the surface layer of the intermediate transfer member prior to the formation of the raw image. The reactive liquid urges the coloring material in the liquid ink to coagulate. The apparatus further has an adjustment unit for adjusting the thickness of the raw image according to the surface roughness of the recording medium.

  • Patent number: RE46390
Abstract: According to the embodiments, a distribution of a recess portion shape is calculated based on a result obtained by measuring the recess portion shape of a first projection and recess pattern formed on a surface of a template. Next, a distribution of an application amount of a curing agent to a processing target layer is calculated based on the distribution of the recess portion shape, and the curing agent is applied to the processing target layer based on this distribution of the application amount of the curing agent. Next, a second projection and recess pattern is formed by transferring the first projection and recess pattern onto the curing agent by causing the curing agent to cure in a state where the first projection and recess pattern is in contact with the curing agent.
