Abstract: The present invention relates to Digital Television (DTV) controlled by a 3-Dimensional (3-D) pointing device, including a receiving unit configured to receive an operation signal generated by a manipulation for the 3-D pointing device; a display configured to display a movable indicator and at least one pop-up object selectable by the indicator when the operation signal is received; and a controller configured to generate a control signal corresponding to the received operation signal and to make the indicator disappear from the display if the operation signal is not received during a preset first time. According to the present invention, the 3-D pointing device may not transmit an operation signal if the 3-D pointing device is not manipulated during a set time. Accordingly, the period for which the power source of the 3-D pointing device is used can be increased by optimizing the consumption of the power source of the 3-D pointing device.

Closed-caption information is analyzed to find related information on the Internet. User interactions with a TV which receives programming including closed-caption information are monitored to determine user interests. The related closed-caption information is analyzed to determine key information therein. The key information is used for searching for information in available resources such as the Internet, and the search results are used to make recommendations to the user about information of potential interest to the user.

Abstract: The embodiments of the present disclosure teach overlaying videos on a display device. The technique involves one or more buffers at input such as a first buffer (Primary Buffer) and an overlay buffer, a blitting module, a second buffer(Frame Buffer), and a display screen. The first buffer provides a first image data to the blitting module and the overlay buffer provides a second image data to the blitting module. The embodiments of the present disclosure demonstrate overlaying the second image on the first image with enhanced configurable functionality (like stretching, clipping, color keying, Alpha Blending and Raster Operation) if required, without modifying the Primary Buffer without the need of any overlay support in hardware.

The input video signal is received at a hardware scaler device and a predistorted video signal is generated there from. A warping map is calculated using a programmed processor and a graphics source signal is then predistorted, in software, using the warping map to generate a warped graphical overlay signal. The predistorted video signal from the hardware scaler is then merged with the warped graphical overlay signal from the programmed processor.

The control elements may provide specific interactive functionality for channel selection, volume selection, playback of multimedia content, and other remote control features. In some embodiments, a multi-mode external storage device that provides a file download mode, a video menu mode, and a content display mode is disclosed.
