Publication number: 20150145974Abstract: The occurrence of crosstalk in a display device which performs 3D display is suppressed. When 3D display is performed, part of a plurality of pixels perform desired color display and the other part of the plurality of pixels perform black display. Thus, as compared to the case where all of a plurality of pixels perform desired color display, the occurrence of crosstalk can be suppressed. A plurality of pixels which perform desired color display are changed depending on the display state. Therefore, as compared to the case where a plurality of pixels which perform desired color display are fixed when 3D display is performed, the display device can have a longer period until display change in a pixel becomes obvious (a longer lifetime) and variations in display among the plurality of pixels can be reduced.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 3, 2015Publication date: May 28, 2015Inventor: Hiroyuki MIYAKE

Publication number: 20150062315Abstract: Many 3D displays show 3D images to viewers wearing special eyeglasses, while showing a double image to viewers without eyeglasses (13e). We demonstrate a method (15a-15h) that provides those with eyeglasses a 3D experience while viewers without eyeglasses see a 2D image without artifacts (FIG. 1, image 1b). In addition to separate Left (“L”) and Right (“R”) images in each frame, we add a third image (“N”), invisible to those with glasses. In the combined view seen by those without glasses, this cancels the Right image, leaving only the Left. If the Left and Right images are of equal brightness, this approach results in low contrast to viewers without glasses. Allowing differential brightness between the Left and Right images improves 2D contrast. We determine that viewers with glasses maintain a strong 3D experience, even when one eye is significantly darker than the other.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 18, 2013Publication date: March 5, 2015Applicant: THE REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIAInventors: James E. Patent number: 8964007Abstract: An application for a three-dimensional television system includes content encoded with left/right frame indicators at a pre-determined location on each frame. For example, during display frames meant for a first eye, the set of pixels contain a first pattern while during display of frames meant for the second eye, the set of pixels contain a second pattern. A detector interfaced to the screen of the television detects the left/right indication and provides synchronization to shutters of three-dimensional eyewear. The detector is positioned over the set of pixels and determines which pattern is displayed, generating a synchronization signal based upon the patterns. The synchronization signal is then transmitted to three-dimensional eyewear where it is used to control the shutters. In some embodiments, a phased-locked loop is provided within the three-dimensional eyewear to continue operation during periods when the transmission of the synchronization signal is blocked or otherwise interrupted.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 2010Date of Patent: February 24, 2015Assignee: Vizio, Inc.Inventor: William Pat Price

Patent number: 8948571Abstract: A receiver allows controlling a device to be controlled such as a display device based on reference timing acquired from reception data without delay and with low power consumption, and includes: a communication device receiving data incoming intermittently; a first control circuit analyzing the data received by the communication device to identify the presence of a predetermined reference timing signal pattern in the data; and a timer for counting a clock from an initial value, generating a control signal for the device to be controlled according to a resulting count value, and if the count value reaches a predetermined interval value, resuming counting the clock at the initial value. The timer changes the initial value to reduce a count of the clock between the initial value and the interval value if the first control circuit identifies the predetermined reference timing signal pattern to be present.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 2012Date of Patent: February 3, 2015Assignee: LAPIS Semiconductor Co., Ltd.Inventor: Takeshi Ichikawa
