Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer program products, for changing digital broadcast channels. In one implementation, upon receiving a request for switching to a new channel in a digital broadcast receiving device, the device switches from a power saving mode, in which the device processes time-slices only for the currently selected broadcast channel, to a channel changing mode, in which broadcast data is buffered for more than one broadcast channels in anticipation of channel surfing. In another implementation, the user's perception of the channel change delay is mitigated by displaying channel information about the newly selected channel.

Starting time information of at least one non-reference channel is selected. When the user selects a non-reference channel, broadcast data thereof is received by using the collected starting time information. The apparatus extracts time offset values between a starting time of a current reference channel and that of each at least one non-reference channel, and then obtains the starting time of each non-reference channel by using the extracted time offset values. When a channel change is performed, the starting time of the non-reference channel is established to receive broadcast data based on the starting time according to a corresponding time offset value. Abstract: [Object] To provide a transmission apparatus, a reception apparatus, a communication system, a transmission method, a reception method, and programs therefor that are capable of efficiently transmitting at least a plurality of pieces of video data included in data of a plurality of contents at the same time. [Solving Means] A switch unit (32a) of a transmission apparatus selects one of a plurality of pieces of video data supplied from a storage apparatus (42) in accordance with video data designated by a transmission data control unit (32i) and supplies it to an IF unit (32b). The IF unit (32b) transmits video data decoded by a decode unit (113) from a terminal (335). The compressed video data supplied from the switch unit (32a) is transmitted via a terminal (336). The terminal (335) is included in a first channel unit. In a case where the IF unit (32b) is an HDMI, for example, the terminal (335) is a terminal for a TMDS channel.

  • Patent number: 7847865
Abstract: A digital television broadcasting receiving apparatus is arranged so as to execute a process requiring to stop an image display at the time of channel change-over, without giving a user a sense of incompatibility and forcing the user to perform unnecessary operations. The digital television broadcasting receiving apparatus can receive a digital television broadcasting signal and operates in accordance with an operation program stored in a memory. A system controller executes a data write process, such as an operation program update process and a memory storage area relocation process, of writing data in the memory if a channel change-over decision unit judges a channel change-over, for example, before a video decoder starts a decoding process for a channel data signal newly selected.

  • Patent number: 7847866
Abstract: A method and apparatus for isolating a noise intolerant device, e.g., a phase-lock loop of a tuner within a television receiver, from source of noise. In one embodiment, the apparatus isolates a phase-lock loop integrated circuit (IC) from the bus, by providing an isolation buffer that allows the receiver to only pass data to the tuner's phase-lock loop IC when a tune command is issued by a processor. When not being tuned, the IIC lines to the tuner are held HIGH by a buffer until needed again to perform the tuning function. This allows the demodulation circuitry to use a setting for a carrier tracking-loop that optimizes bit error rate performance.

Abstract: A lighting device 12 of the present invention includes a plurality of light sources 17 and a chassis 14 that accommodates the light sources 17. The chassis 14 is constructed of a plate member including a flat bottom plate 14a and outer rims 21 having a folding configuration 31 formed at the edges of the bottom plate 14a. At the outer rim 21, a core member 40 extending in a longitudinal direction of the outer rim is provided in a folded part of the folding configuration 31. The outer rim 21 provided with the core member 40 improves strength of the outer rim 21 itself. This suppresses distortion of the chassis 14 and uniform brightness is provided.

  • Patent number: 7844009
Abstract: A digital broadcasting system and a data processing method are disclosed. Herein, additional encoding is performed on mobile service data, which are then transmitted, thereby providing robustness in the processed mobile service data, so that the mobile service data can respond more strongly against fast and frequent channel changes. The transmitting system includes a first encoding module grouping a plurality of inputted mobile service data bytes so as to form a RS frame and performing error correction encoding in RS frame units, a second encoding module encoding the primarily encoded and outputted data at a coding rate of G/H, wherein G is smaller than H (i.e., G<H), and a third encoding module performing trellis encoding on the secondarily encoded and outputted data.

The lead wires 32a and 32b are bent and inserted in the ferrule 40 such that they are in contact with the ferrule 40. They can receive external power supply via the ferrule 40. The lead wires 32a and 32b that are non-light-emitting portions of the discharge tube 17 are bent and thus the apparent lengths of the lead wires 32a and 32b can be reduced. The light emitting area of the discharge tube 17 with respect to the whole length is increased.
