In a cross-section that is parallel to the first direction and perpendicular to the substrate, and that passes through the source line, the inclination of an inclined end face on one side of the first protruding section in the first direction is steeper than the inclination of each inclined end face on the other side of the protruding section.

A current injected to the semiconductor gain chip is converted to broadband spontaneously radiating photons through electrical-to-optical conversion, and the photons are spread along a waveguide toward two sides. A part of photons with special frequencies go back and forth multiple times in the resonant cavity to form a laser after a threshold condition is met. The laser is collimated by the collimating lens, passes through the optical isolator, is coupled by the collimating lens, and enters the output optical fiber.

The present invention provides a liquid crystal display device comprising a liquid crystal display element including a pair of substrates and a liquid crystal layer hermetically interposed between the pair of substrates, wherein the liquid crystal layer includes a p-type liquid crystal material that is homeotropically aligned with respect to surfaces of the pair of substrates when no voltage is applied; one of the pair of substrates comprises a comb-shaped electrode and a first alignment layer configured to control alignment of the p-type liquid crystal material; the other of the pair of substrates comprises a second alignment layer configured to control alignment of the p-type liquid crystal material; and the first alignment layer has an anchoring energy of not greater than 1.5×10?4 J/m2.
