Abstract: A source generates an optical test signal sweeping a bandwidth of wavelengths over time. The test signal is applied to a device under test (DUT) to generate a response signal. A timing signal generator connected to the source generates a timing signal having triggers at time instances corresponding to known wavelengths of the test signal. A DUT detector samples the DUT response signal generating sampled DUT data using a sampling period that is shorter than a shortest time between timing signal triggers. A correlator receives the timing signal, the known wavelengths associated with the timing signal triggers, the sampled DUT data and the DUT detector sampling period then correlates each sampled DUT datum to a wavelength of the test signal that was applied to the DUT when the DUT datum was sampled by interpolating the known wavelengths using the trigger time instances and the DUT detector sampling period.

Abstract: A multi-angle colorimeter employs a multi-angle mode and a symmetrical arrangement mode in an optical arrangement. Light detection on both sides of the symmetrical arrangement is performed by a single photodetector unit. The photodetector unit is used on both sides, and thus, the device becomes simpler, without any impact on individual difference in characteristics of multiple photodetector units. Conversely, elements for illumination can be used on both sides. Also in a case where multiple photodetector units are used, the size and cost of the device can be reduced with the use of a photodetector unit having a relatively low wavelength resolution as a photodetector unit to be used on one side. This enables to reduce an attitude error due to relative tilting of a measurement surface while reducing the size and cost of the device.

A second filter, an “opaque” or neutral density filter, may be insertable into the collimated collection beam to attenuate a broad spectral response within and outside the spectral range.

  • Patent number: 8597715
Abstract: A method of removing a target from a biological sample which involves placing a transfer surface in contact with the biological sample, and then focally altering the transfer surface to allow selective separation of the target from the biological sample. In disclosed embodiments, the target is a cell or cellular component of a tissue section and the transfer surface is a film that can be focally altered to adhere the target to the transfer surface. Subsequent separation of the film from the tissue section selectively removes the adhered target from the tissue section. The transfer surface is activated from within the target to adhere the target to the transfer surface, for example by heating the target to adhere it to a thermoplastic transfer surface. Such in situ activation can be achieved by exposing the biological sample to an immunoreagent that specifically binds to the target (or a component of the target).

Abstract: Spectroscopic analyses of complex mixtures within the matrix of a sample can oftentimes be complicated by spectral overlap of the constituents and/or the matrix, making it difficult to quantitatively assay each constituent therein. Methods for analyzing a sample can comprise: providing a sample comprising a matrix and one or more constituents therein; exposing the sample to electromagnetic radiation in a spectral region where the matrix optically interacts with the electromagnetic radiation, so as to acquire a spectrum of the matrix; and analyzing the spectrum of the matrix within a wavelength range where the matrix has a molar extinction coefficient of at least about 0.01 M?1mm?1 to determine at least one property of the sample, the at least one property of the sample being selected from the group consisting of a concentration of at least one constituent in the sample, at least one characteristic of the sample, and any combination thereof.

Abstract: In the color imaging system, multiple rendering devices are provided at different nodes along a network. Each rendering device has a color measurement instrument for calibrating the color presented by the rendering device. A rendering device may represent a color display in which a member surrounds the outer periphery of the screen of the display and a color measuring instrument is coupled to the first member. The color measuring instrument includes a sensor spaced from the screen at an angle with respect to the screen for receiving light from an area of the screen. A rendering device may be a printer in which the measuring of color samples on a sheet rendered by the printer is provided by a sensor coupled to a transport mechanism which moves the sensor and sheet relative to each other, where the sensor provides light from the sample to a spectrograph.
