A color value to be spectrally gamut mapped is accepted, and converted into a colorimetric value under the reference illuminant. The converted colorimetric value includes a lightness, a chroma and a hue. Subdivisions within a tolerance of the converted colorimetric value are identified using its lightness, chroma and hue. Samples within the identified subdivisions are searched to find a sample that matches acceptably to the color value relative to an objective function.

The present method captures the intent of the device link transform for a fleet and generates the cascaded LUT for drift, specific printer, side1/side2, and other modes leading to special GCRs.

    Abstract: What is disclosed is a novel system and method for converting a set of L*a*b* values to CMYK color space in which all CMYK formulations that produce each L*a*b* value are found and enumerated. The CMYK formulations are found through a search algorithm starting with the lightest L*a*b* values then visiting neighboring L*a*b* values until the entire L*a*b* color set has been processed. The CMYK space is tessellated into a set of pentahedrons, and for each L*a*b* value, an enclosing pentahedron is found and the CMYK values corresponding to where the locus of this point penetrates each surface is recorded. Adjacent pentahedrons are then visited and this process continues until the gamut boundary is reached. The result is a piecewise linear representation of the CMYK locus containing all values that will give the target L*a*b* value. The present method provides a flexible and powerful approach for solving color management problems.

    Abstract: A first color conversion unit converts RGB signals from a line input unit to L*a*b* signals. A lightness range compression unit matches the lightness range of the input color signals with that of an output gamut. If the maximum saturation point on an input line is outside the output gamut, an input line correction unit corrects the point in such a manner that it is mapped onto the surface of the output gamut. If a near-surface determination unit determines that the corrected line is not located on the surface of the output gamut, an out-of-gamut mapping unit maps it onto the surface of the output gamut, whereas if it determines that the corrected line is located near the surface of the output gamut, the surface mapping unit maps all points on the surface of the output gamut. A second color conversion unit converts the mapped L*a*b* signals to CMYK signals.

    Abstract: A method of mapping colors which are outside a reproduction device's color gamut to reproducible colors uses a boundary of a reduced gamut. In a three-dimensional color space the reduced gamut is derived from the reproduction device's gamut by reducing its size in all three dimensions. Reduced-gamut clipping-vectors are determined by clipping the out-of-gamut colors onto the reduced-gamut boundary, and the out-of-gamut colors are mapped to those colors at which the reduced-gamut clipping-vectors intersect the reproduction device's gamut boundary. Thus out-of-gamut colors associated with clipping-vectors of different directions that are clipped onto the same point, or adjacent points, of the reduced-gamut boundary are mapped to points spaced apart, or spaced farther apart, on the reproduction device's gamut boundary.

    Abstract: A novel and useful system and method for the serving and display of extended bit depth (EBD) high resolution images on a web browser using multimedia platform code or code for a graphics framework. To display an EBD image, such as an x-ray or MRI image set, on a web browser, the image data is mapped into a plurality of channels of pixels of a color image which a web browser is able to handle, where each channel holds a portion of the full dynamic range of the original EBD image. At the client, a color transform is applied to the color image data which takes into account the user's desired VOI settings. The resulting display image has the exact values as if the VOI was applied to the original EBD image and is dynamically mapped to the display capabilities of the client viewing framework thus enabling a reviewer to detect any available details of the image.

The method also includes generating a CMYK to CIELab numerical conversion model, removing a portion of CMY color values generated from the CIELab to CMY numerical conversion model, and replacing the removed portion of the CMY color values with black color values. The method also includes optimizing CMYK color values via a multidimensional optimization using the CMYK to CIELab numerical model.
