Patent number: 8610948Abstract: Color management in which a spectral gamut is determined for spectral gamut mapping by constructing subdivisions of a set of samples spanning the spectral gamut. The samples are designated by specifying device values and are subdivided based on their lightness, chroma and hue under a reference illuminant such that the number of samples in each subdivision is limited by a predetermined number. A color value to be spectrally gamut mapped is accepted, and converted into a colorimetric value under the reference illuminant. Patent number: 8576466Abstract: Conventionally, it is not possible to evenly correct a color conversion table of a reading device in the entire color region even with a limited number of patches. In order to correct a color conversion table, a color conversion table from a device-independent color space into a device-independent color space is newly stored. A shift in read data between devices is reflected in a correction 3D-LUT and a color conversion table is corrected using the correction 3D-LUT. Patent number: 8547613Abstract: What is disclosed is a novel system and method of inheriting intended GCR into a 4-to-4 cascaded LUT to compensate for print engine change which adversely impacts the quality of an output print. The present method uses the device link transform to generate starting LUT nodes for the inverse of the drifted printer model by inputting CMYK or RGB into the device link at a color space resolution sufficient to determine output nodes. Lab and CMYK values are derived from this process, and a “starting LUT” is created at the Lab destination nodes. An iterative control begins with this starting LUT to produce an inverse drifted printer model that contains a close approximation for the intended GCR. The present method captures the intent of the device link transform for a fleet and generates the cascaded LUT for drift, specific printer, side1/side2, and other modes leading to special GCRs.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 2010Date of Patent: October 1, 2013Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Lalit Keshav Mestha, Martin S. Patent number: 8477370Abstract: What is disclosed is a novel system and method for determining color profiles based upon optimizing image output color stability. For each of a number of selected output colors, color stability values for a set of device-dependent color specifications that produce the selected output color are iteratively determined. The iterative process improves the color stability value, as determined by a color stability model, of the device-dependent color specifications that correspond to the selected output color. When an optimum color stability value is found, the device-dependent color specification having that color stability value is selected as the mapping for the selected device-independent color specification. Patent number: 8451521Abstract: What is disclosed is a novel system and method for converting a set of L*a*b* values to CMYK color space in which all CMYK formulations that produce each L*a*b* value are found and enumerated. The CMYK formulations are found through a search algorithm starting with the lightest L*a*b* values then visiting neighboring L*a*b* values until the entire L*a*b* color set has been processed. The CMYK space is tessellated into a set of pentahedrons, and for each L*a*b* value, an enclosing pentahedron is found and the CMYK values corresponding to where the locus of this point penetrates each surface is recorded. Adjacent pentahedrons are then visited and this process continues until the gamut boundary is reached. The result is a piecewise linear representation of the CMYK locus containing all values that will give the target L*a*b* value. The present method provides a flexible and powerful approach for solving color management problems.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 2010Date of Patent: May 28, 2013Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Martin S. Patent number: 8446634Abstract: A first color conversion unit converts RGB signals from a line input unit to L*a*b* signals. A lightness range compression unit matches the lightness range of the input color signals with that of an output gamut. If the maximum saturation point on an input line is outside the output gamut, an input line correction unit corrects the point in such a manner that it is mapped onto the surface of the output gamut. If a near-surface determination unit determines that the corrected line is not located on the surface of the output gamut, an out-of-gamut mapping unit maps it onto the surface of the output gamut, whereas if it determines that the corrected line is located near the surface of the output gamut, the surface mapping unit maps all points on the surface of the output gamut. A second color conversion unit converts the mapped L*a*b* signals to CMYK signals.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2010Date of Patent: May 21, 2013Assignee: Ricoh Company, LimitedInventor: Hirokazu Takenaka

Patent number: 8432588Abstract: A method of mapping colors which are outside a reproduction device's color gamut to reproducible colors uses a boundary of a reduced gamut. In a three-dimensional color space the reduced gamut is derived from the reproduction device's gamut by reducing its size in all three dimensions. Reduced-gamut clipping-vectors are determined by clipping the out-of-gamut colors onto the reduced-gamut boundary, and the out-of-gamut colors are mapped to those colors at which the reduced-gamut clipping-vectors intersect the reproduction device's gamut boundary. Thus out-of-gamut colors associated with clipping-vectors of different directions that are clipped onto the same point, or adjacent points, of the reduced-gamut boundary are mapped to points spaced apart, or spaced farther apart, on the reproduction device's gamut boundary.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 2005Date of Patent: April 30, 2013Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventor: Jan Morovic

Patent number: 8432413Abstract: A novel and useful system and method for the serving and display of extended bit depth (EBD) high resolution images on a web browser using multimedia platform code or code for a graphics framework. To display an EBD image, such as an x-ray or MRI image set, on a web browser, the image data is mapped into a plurality of channels of pixels of a color image which a web browser is able to handle, where each channel holds a portion of the full dynamic range of the original EBD image. At the client, a color transform is applied to the color image data which takes into account the user's desired VOI settings. The resulting display image has the exact values as if the VOI was applied to the original EBD image and is dynamically mapped to the display capabilities of the client viewing framework thus enabling a reviewer to detect any available details of the image.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 2009Date of Patent: April 30, 2013Assignee: XRFiles, Inc.Inventors: Roni Zaharia, Zvi Eintracht, Alexander Ovsiankin

Patent number: 8427722Abstract: A method for determining a blended color transform for use in producing printed colors on a color printer having at least four device color channels, comprising: forming first and second color transforms, wherein the first color transform produces printed colors that have a reduced sensitivity to color printer process variations in at least a first region of color space that includes a near-neutral color region, and wherein the second color transform produces printed colors that have a reduced image noise visibility in at least a second region of color space; defining a blending function which computes weighting values for the first and second color transforms as a function of input color values; and using a processor to determine the blended color transform by blending the first color transform and the second color transform, responsive to the blending function.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 2010Date of Patent: April 23, 2013Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventors: Paula J. Patent number: 8422103Abstract: Methods and systems herein provide for color conversion. Such color conversion includes a method of optimizing gray component replacement in a color image that includes receiving a color image from an input imaging device (e.g., a digital camera, scanner, etc), determining a color gamut of an output imaging device, such as a printer, and generating a CIELab to CMY numerical model to convert the color image to a color space within the color gamut of the output imaging device. The method also includes generating a CMYK to CIELab numerical conversion model, removing a portion of CMY color values generated from the CIELab to CMY numerical conversion model, and replacing the removed portion of the CMY color values with black color values. The method also includes optimizing CMYK color values via a multidimensional optimization using the CMYK to CIELab numerical model.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 2008Date of Patent: April 16, 2013Assignee: Ricoh Production Print Solutions LLCInventors: Yue Qiao, Nenad Rijavec
