Abstract: A device (1) for discharging an electrical overvoltage includes an overvoltage discharge unit (10) having a non-linear current/voltage characteristic at least in sections. A first terminal electrode (16) of the overvoltage discharge unit (10) is connected to a high-voltage terminal (18) of the device (1). A second terminal electrode (22) of the overvoltage discharge unit (10) is connected to a low-voltage or ground terminal (24) of the device (1). The overvoltage discharge unit (10) is surrounded, at least in sections, by an insulating body (20). A cutting element (40) is connected to the low-voltage or ground terminal (24) and is disposed close to a high-voltage section of the overvoltage discharge unit (10). The cutting element cuts into the insulating body (20) when the insulating body (20) distends as a result of an electrical overload, enabling an are to be sparked and stabilized between the high-voltage section and the cutting element (40).

Abstract: A power converter includes an output circuit and a control circuit. The output circuit has an upper switching device connected to a direct-current power source and a lower switching device connected in series with the upper switching device. The output circuit supplies power to a load from a connection point between the switching devices. The control circuit supplies pulse-modulated control signals to the switching devices to turn ON and OFF the switching devices. The control circuit variably sets a switching speed and a dead-time of the switching devices in such a manner that as the switching speed becomes slower, the dead-time becomes longer.

Abstract: A suppression system provides more effective protection for communication stations with distributed radio and power systems. The suppression system provides surge protection both locally close to the radio station building where the power plant and telecommunication equipment are located and remotely next to the radios and antennas located outside of the building on the communication tower. Local and remote suppression units may include monitor circuitry that monitor remote and local DC voltage levels and alarm conditions. The alarm conditions may include over-voltage protection failures, intrusions, and/or water infiltration. Displays on both the local and remote suppression units identify the voltage levels and alarm conditions.

  • Patent number: 9030791
Abstract: A circuit for electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection is disclosed. The circuit includes multiple transistors that are selectively turned on during an ESD event. An ESD sense circuit detects an ESD event and asserts signals to activate an ESD protection circuit which closes multiple protection transistors to dissipate current during the ESD event. During normal operation of the circuit, the signals are de-asserted, disabling the ESD protection circuit.
