The modifying substrate becomes excited when struck by light, and then produces light with desired characteristics. The mirror reflects light that is generated by, or reflected off of, the modifying substrate, and traveling along suboptimal trajectories. As such, the reflected light is redirected towards the modifying substrate.

Embodiments of the present invention provide for a lighting system in which LEDs face, and the majority of light form the LED light source is incident on, a textured surface of a back reflector while producing minimal glare and minimal imaging of the light source. The reflector for the light fixture can be made from a relatively inexpensive material such as polycarbonate, which without texturing has a specular or semi-specular surface. This material can be used alone or with a metal substrate to form the reflector. The textured surface can be textured by way of an imprinted pattern or by roughening, and can be extruded. A prismatic texture may be used. The texturing can also be spatially varied.

The high transmittance of the laser-reflecting filter at non-laser wavelengths results in a relatively high overall transmittance through the coated substrate. In the specific case of laser reflecting coatings on a lens to protect an eye, this allows a high luminous transmittance and good colour discrimination.

Each mirror structure (101) comprises a plurality of mirror segments which are curved and concave in cross-section perpendicular to the diffuser (5). The mirror segments extend from around the light sources (11) towards the diffuser (5). The edges of adjacent mirror segments of adjacent regions meet at a meeting line such that all of the meeting lines are at the diffuser (5) or between the diffuser (5) and the light sources (11).

The concave part(s) is configured with a support member used for supporting the reflector sheet. In the present disclosure, because the concave part of the backplane is configured with a support member used for supporting the reflector sheet, the reflector sheet is prevented from deforming and being depressed on the concave part of the backplane because of no support, and the reflector sheet is prevented from abnormally reflecting light because of deformation, thereby increasing the display effect of the LCD device.
