Defect Location Indicating Patents (Class 369/53.17)
  • Patent number: 8325572
Abstract: To provide a simple configuration capable of recording data on an optical disc reliably at high speed even if recording errors occur. Data that is normally recorded on the optical disc is erased from a storing means, and when a recording error has occurred, a predetermined range subsequent to the address at which the recording error has occurred is selected as a skip area, and this skip area is skipped to record the data stored in the storing means from a recording resume address of the optical disc. This makes it possible to avoid repetition of recording errors in the vicinity of the error-occurring location where the possibility of repeating errors is high. Data retransmission at the time of resuming recording can also be omitted to eliminate the time loss for retransmitting the data, and to reduce the storage space of the host unit necessary for storing the data to be retransmitted.

  • Patent number: 8305856
Abstract: To record specific information to a disk-shaped record medium and reproduce the recorded specific information without any influence on the error correction capability. Copy protection information (CPID) having an error correction code appended thereto, shuffled and otherwise treated is sent as a CPID bit block to an EDC rewrite circuit (14). The EDC rewrite circuit (14) rewrites an error detection code appended to user data in each sector in accordance with bit information in the CPID bit block. Thereafter, the data in each sector is scrambled, and an ECC block including a plurality of sectors is modulated with an error correction code and sync signal appended thereto. The modulated signal is recorded in a reserve area of a lead-in area of the disk-shaped record medium. During reproduction, CPID is restored based on the result of error detection of each sector.

  • Patent number: 8295148
Abstract: A dual format hybrid storage medium includes a non-recordable section in which data to be reproduced is written and in which data cannot be updated, and a recordable section in which data in the non-recordable section having a high probability of error occurrence may be backed up. The high probability of error is determined based on a range of fluctuation of an RF envelope, an unstable phase locked loop signal, a value of a sum level or sub-beam added level of the reproduced data, an unstable focus lock signal, a range of fluctuation of a track error signal and a range of fluctuation of a focus error signal. A determination is made to test for errors if a freeze-frame is found, audio and video are out of sync, a data seek fails or a picture distortion or a picture mosaic effect occurs.

Abstract: To prevent the degradation in read access performance to replacement data caused by not selecting appropriate replacement clusters and to suppress the waste of the number of DFL registrations. Attention is paid to the usage direction of a user data area and that of a replacement area, and in the case where one CRD-type DFL registration can be made collectively in the sequential defect management processes, a replacement area of which the usage direction is the same as that of the user data area is selected.

  • Patent number: 8098550
Abstract: If a defective cluster in a spare area is managed with a defect entry, the size of a DFL will increase as the size of the spare area increases with an increase in the number of recording layers stacked in a disc. An information recording medium according to the present invention has pointer information indicating the location of the next available cluster in each spare area, and restricts the direction in which the spare area is used. Also, a defect entry indicating a defective cluster in the spare area is registered with the DFL. Thus, even if the size of the spare area 15 increases, the size of the DFL 21 can be kept relatively small. Furthermore, even after physical reformatting is done, a defective cluster, if any, in the spare area 15 can still be recognized as a defect and the control operation can be performed so that a replacement cluster is not re-allocated to that defective cluster (i.e., the defective cluster is not used).

Abstract: The present invention relates to an information recording device and method, a program storage medium, and a program, wherein updated file system information can be recorded without changing a logical address. As shown to the upper side in FIG. 18, in the event that data has been recorded, upon a file (Files (Stream+DB)) recorded in region B112 being updated, an updated file is recorded at region B112? as shown at the middle in FIG. 18. In conjunction with this, main FS (FS (Metadata)), inner side volume structure information, and anchor information, which had been recorded in region B111 until this time, is rendered unreadable, and newly-generated file system information (FS (Metadata)), inner side volume structure information, and anchor information, are recorded in region B111? in an ISA which is an inner side SA region. The present invention can be applied to a Blu-Ray Disc recording/playing device.

Abstract: An error recovery method for video recording is provided. The method is suitable for recovering data of a disk when an error occurs during video recording. The method includes following steps. First, a last writable address of the disk is obtained. Then, a file system last written onto the disk is located by searching forward from the last writable address. Next, a new file system is generated based on the file system and a data segment of the defected recording. Finally, the new file system is written onto the disk so as to recover the data on the disk. Therefore, the data currently written onto the disk and the existing data in the disk can be recovered.
