Abstract: Systems and methods for performing MCS adaptation are provided. In some cases, the network performs MCS adaptation based on received NACKs. In other cases, the mobile station determines an MCS based on channel quality measurements, and feeds back the MCS adaptation decision to the network. In either case, NACK-only feedback may be implemented to reduce interference.

Abstract: Interface circuitry and method for transmitting and receiving downstream and upstream data signals simultaneously via a common conductor pair. The composite signal containing the downstream and upstream data signal components being conveyed by the common conductor pair is isolated, e.g., via signal filtering or buffering, and combined with an appropriately scaled inverse replica of the outgoing upstream data signal to subtract out upstream data signal components and thereby provide the downstream data signal substantially free of any upstream data signal components.

  • Patent number: 8089907
Abstract: An apparatus including a port to transmit first frames and receive second frames over a communication channel, the port including a collision detect circuit and a duplex mismatch circuit. The collision detect circuit detects collisions on the communication channel between the first frames and the second frames. The duplex mismatch circuit declares a duplex mismatch when the communication channel was established without attempting auto-negotiation, the port is in a half-duplex mode, and the collision detect circuit detects a very late collision involving one of the first frames. The very late collision occurs after a predetermined amount of data has been transmitted in the one of the first frames. The duplex mismatch indicates that a full-duplex mode is used with respect to the second frames.

  • Patent number: 8085657
Abstract: A base station comprises an RNC message receiver which receives data packets from a Radio Network Controller, RNC. The data packets are transmitted over air interface channels by a transmitter. The base station includes buffer memory for buffering the data packets prior to transmission, a scheduler for scheduling the data packets for transmission over the air interface channels, and a memory allocator for determining a first memory allocation of the buffer memory for a first air interface communication with a first user equipment. The base station further includes a flow controller for determining a transfer allowance for transferring of data from the RNC to the base station in response to the first memory allocation and a current buffer memory usage of the first air interface communication. The transfer allowance is transmitted to the RNC by an RNC message transmitter for achieving an efficient flow control.

Abstract: A first PHY may be coupled to a second PHY via a network link. The first PHY may transition from a role of timing master for the network link to a role of timing slave for the network link. During a first time interval subsequent to the transition, the PHYs may communicate half-duplex over the link while the first PHY synchronizes to a transmit clock of the second PHY. During a second time interval, the PHYs may communicate full-duplex while the second Ethernet PHY synchronizes to a transmit clock of the first PHY. Also during the second time interval, the first PHY may determine that the first PHY and the second PHY are synchronized. Subsequent to the determination, the PHYs may begin full-duplex communication of data on the network link.

Abstract: This invention relates to methods and systems for providing data from a distributed array. In one aspect, the array is a sensor array that includes sensor nodes that are each associated with one or more sensors, and the data includes sensor data acquired from the sensors by the sensor nodes. The sensor array employs modular and interchangeable sensor nodes that are capable of self-organizing in response to a network disruption while maintaining a flow of synchronized data to the event monitor. This self-organizing characteristic enables the overall network of nodes to be self-healing and easily extensible. The improved fault resilience makes it possible to deploy the sensors without requiring complex monitoring or fault diagnosis. Embodiments of the invention can be employed in any number of applications, including without limitation, tunnel activity detection, seismic/acoustic monitoring/detection and other applications where gathering sensor data may be desired.

  • Patent number: 7948929
Abstract: A communication system generates a constant-envelope composite signal containing at least two signals whose power levels, bandwidths, and/or data rates are independently controllable. Binary offset carrier (BOC) modulation is applied to the signals to be combined in the composite signal. The BOC modulated signals are then combined via interplex modulation to form a constant-envelope composite signal in which the constituent signals modulate different offset carriers. For example, real BOC modulation can be used to generate a ranging signal in edge portions of the transmission band of the composite signal, while complex BOC modulation can be used to generate a frequency agile data signal in a center portion of the transmission band. Such a signal can be used for full duplex communications in satellite crosslinks. The interplex modulation allows independent control of the power levels of the two signals while maintaining a constant envelope, permitting use of saturated RF amplifiers.

Abstract: A method provides a technique to implement a circuit for duplexing a clock board that is applicable to all circuit elements within a base station which is synchronized by using a clock. More particularly, the method duplexes a clock board which is embodied to supply a stable clock in a CDMA (code division multiple access) System in such a manner that in case an active board is mounted/dismounted or its hardware is reset, a protection circuit logic is implemented for a board in standby mode (“a standby board”) to receive information of an Opponent board. This is so that a clock break during changing the board can be prevented by using the previously received information and the traditional complicated hardware circuits can be simplified by employing an EPLD (electrically programmable logic device).

Abstract: Embodiments herein provide full duplex operation (i.e., simultaneous receiving and transmitting of data over a network) of a network device of a computer system. Receiving and transmitting threads are used for receiving and transmitting data using the network device, the threads requiring access to an associated data structure to use the network device. Conventionally, the data structure is locked to allow access to only one thread at a time to protect against information inconsistencies in the data structure. Some embodiments remove the locking feature of the data structure to provide simultaneous access to the data structure by the receiving and transmitting threads, and thus allow full duplex operation of the network device. Protections against information inconsistencies in the data structure may be provided, including providing separate receiving and transmitting information sections in the data structure and assurances that only one transmitting thread accesses the data structure at any time.

Abstract: A quadrature modulator divides a part of a transmitted signal to generate a cancel signal. A signal comparator compares the amplitude and phase of the cancel signal which is generated by the quadrature modulator with those of a received signal, and outputs signals corresponding to the comparison results to the quadrature modulator. The quadrature modulator generates the cancel signal on the basis of the output signals of the signal comparator, and these components perform feedback control such that the cancel signal has the same amplitude as the leakage signal and is in phase with the leakage signal. A combiner combines the cancel signal with an antiphase cancel signal, which is made to be in opposite phase with the cancel signal outputted from the quadrature modulator, to cancel out the leakage signal.

Abstract: A data transmission technique where high speed data is transmitted differentially in a forward channel by way of a serial link, and relatively low speed data is differentially modulated onto the forward channel signal for transmission in a reverse channel via the link. By utilizing differential modulation in both forward and reverse channels, the resulting signal has a common mode voltage that is substantially constant, resulting in low EMI. The spectral content of the signal associated with the high speed data may be substantially non-overlapping with the spectral content of the signal associated with the low speed data. This facilitates the recovery of the high speed data and low speed data with minimal interference. The differential signaling lends itself for communicating data via an inexpensive medium, such as twisted wire pair or parallel PCB traces. The data transmission technique applies to various communication network topologies: point-to-point, daisy-chain, and point-to-multiple points.
