Abstract: A method and apparatus for a Gigabit Ethernet transceiver that has a Class-B amplifier in a main transmitter for higher efficiency and power handling capabilities. The output current of the main transmitter is produced by a reference voltage applied across a resistor, where the reference voltage generator, resistor and amplifier are fabricated on the same substrate, such that the output current is constant across process voltage and temperature. The transceiver also has a replica transmitter whose signal is used to cancel the main transmitter signal at the input of the receiver section of the transceiver. The replica transmitter is fabricated on the same substrate as the main transmitter, such that its output signal reflects non-linearities in the main transmitter across process voltage and temperature.

  • Patent number: 7865925
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for a full duplex wideband communications system for a local (e.g., in-home) coaxial network. The system employs a Frequency-division duplex (FDD) scheme that allows identical wideband modems to communicate with each other. To achieve this, the wideband modems contain a duplexer and a switch that allows reversing the connection of the wideband transmitter and receiver to the duplexer. Each wideband modem includes a control modem that is used to control access to the wideband channels. A wideband transmitter, which may be included in a modem associated with a server set-top terminal (STT), transmits a video presentation to a wideband receiver, which may be included in a modem associated with a client STT.

  • Patent number: 7826387
Abstract: To improve the performance of DSL modems, a DSL duplexing ratio for a new communication is selected according to the communications needs of an application. A required upstream and downstream bit rate for application communications is determined. From the ratio of these bit rates, a desired duplexing ratio is calculated. The operation of the modem is then adapted to choose a duplexing ratio that approximates the desired duplexing ratio for the application. To optimize modem operation, the size and position of the upstream and downstream bandwidths used for transmission are intelligently selected when the bit rate necessary for making the transmission is less than the total available bandwidth provided by the chosen duplexing ratio. By intelligently selecting a minimum number of subcarriers for Digital Multi-tone (DMT) signal transmission, a reduction in line driver power consumption is effectuated.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing downlink transmit delay diversity (TDD). In accordance with the invention, a BTS includes at least one simplex transceiver (S-TRX) that does not implement downlink TDD and at least one duplex transceiver (D-TRX) that does implement TDD. In accordance with the preferred embodiment, the BTS has “N” S-TRXs and “A” D-TRXs, where N and A are positive integers and A is less than N. When downlink TDD is implemented, a total of N+A transceivers may be used (i.e., N S-TRXs and A D-TRXs). When downlink TDD is not needed, as many as N S-TRXs may be used. When downlink TDD is not needed, typically no D-TRXs are used. Therefore, the present invention reduces the amount of resources that is required to implement downlink TDD. In addition, the present invention efficiently utilizes resources by preferably implementing downlink TDD only when it is needed.

Abstract: A data transfer control device includes: a transmitter circuit; a receiver circuit; a transfer direction switch circuit which performs switching a transfer direction; a transfer direction switch indication circuit which indicates the transfer direction switch circuit to switch the transfer direction; and a code generation circuit which generates a transfer direction switch request code when a transfer direction switch request has been received from an upper layer circuit. When the transfer direction switch request has been received from the upper layer circuit, the transmitter circuit transmits the transfer direction switch request code through a serial signal line, and the transfer direction switch indication circuit indicates the transfer direction switch circuit to switch from a transmission direction to a reception direction after the transfer direction switch request code has been transmitted.

Abstract: A circuit is designed with a matched filter circuit including a plurality of fingers (700, 702, 704) coupled to receive a data symbol. Each finger corresponds to a respective path of the data symbol. Each finger produces a respective output signal. A plurality of decoder circuits (706, 708, 710) receives the respective output signal from a respective finger of the plurality of fingers. Each decoder circuit produces a respective output signal. A joint detector circuit (1310) is coupled to receive each respective output signal from the plurality of decoder circuits. The joint detector circuit produces an output signal corresponding to a predetermined code.

Abstract: Disclosed is a multi-mode/multi-band wireless transceiver. The multi-mode/multi-band wireless transceiver includes a tunable duplexer including transmission and reception channel filters of which transmission and reception channel filtering frequencies respectively are controlled by an external element; and a control portion for controlling the transmission and reception channel filtering frequencies to correspond to transmission and reception channels of a current service band. Thus, a use of a RF SAW filter is unnecessary, while it is possible to support the multi-mode/multi-band using a tunable duplexer. Therefore, the number of parts and volume of the transceiver can be reduced, and it is possible to weaken a specification of an RF system.

  • Patent number: 7639598
Abstract: Simple, inexpensive, general-purpose devices and methods achieve simultaneous, full-duplex and bi-directional communication of analog, digital or audio signals across a single conductor. “Sifudu” transceivers, which stands for “simultaneous and full-duplex,” reduce the number of cables necessary for transferring information between two or more terminals at a given rate, and/or facilitate information transfer at a higher rate than traditional circuits across the same number of cables. The transceivers can accommodate both digital and analog signals of arbitrary polarity. Since a sifudu circuit is capable of transmitting analog signals, it is also capable of transmitting digital signals in frequency, phase, or amplitude shift keyed form, thus opening the possibility of realizing higher baud rate than other simultaneous bidirectional communication systems that transfer digital data only, one bit at a time in each direction.

A conference server determines whether a given conference session should operate in half-duplex mode or in full-duplex mode, and the server instructs at least one participating station accordingly. In the half-duplex mode of operation, for instance, a station may engage in an implicit floor control process, in which the station treats an incoming media stream as an implicit floor denial. On the other hand, in the full-duplex mode of operation, a station would not treat an incoming stream as an implicit floor denial.
