  • Patent number: 8005079
Abstract: A network switching device includes a plurality of ports to receive data frames over a plurality of communication channels. The plurality of ports selectively store the data frames in blocks of a shared memory. A receiving port of the plurality of ports stores a first frame of the data frames in at least one block of the blocks. A forwarding module assigns the first frame to a transmitting port of the plurality of ports for transmission over the respective communication channel of the transmitting port. A counter module stores respective counts for the plurality of ports. The counter module increments the count for the receiving port after the forwarding module assigns the first frame to the transmitting port. The counter module decrements the count for the receiving port after the first frame is transmitted by the transmitting port. The plurality of ports respectively exercise flow control based on a pause threshold and the respective counts.

  • Patent number: 7969951
Abstract: A power-saving wireless network, a packet transmitting method for use in the wireless network, and computer readable medium therefor are provided. The wireless network comprises a PAN coordinator, a receiving node and a transferring node. When the transmitting node has a packet planed to be transmitted to the receiving node which is in a sleep mode, the packet is alternatively transmitted to the PAN coordinator. As soon as the receiving node wakes from the sleep mode, all packets are transmitted to the receiving node from the PAN coordinator. After the packets are all successfully transmitted, the receiving node turns back to the sleep mode subsequently. Thereby, the performance of the wireless network would not be restricted to the sleep period and memory capacity. Thus, the nodes in the wireless network would greatly facilitate saving power.

The system then signals the host computing device by configuring a single completion descriptor to identify the hybrid buffer in which the completion lines are stored. The host computing device reads the single completion descriptor to process the packets.

  • Patent number: 7366803
Abstract: A circuit for buffering data is disclosed. The circuit comprises a first circuit which is coupled to receive a stream of data blocks using a first clock signal. The first circuit removes data blocks, such as idle data blocks or a sequence ordered set of a pair of consecutive sequence ordered sets, from the stream of data blocks to create a first modified data stream which is coupled to a memory device. Finally, a second circuit coupled to the memory device generates a second modified data stream using a second clock signal. The second modified data stream preferably comprises the data blocks of the first modified data stream and idle data blocks inserted among the data blocks of the first modified data stream. Methods of buffering data received in a first clock domain and output in a second clock domain are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7353035
Abstract: A method and system for selectively displaying an origination address of a mobile message, e.g., an SMS message, includes the steps of: (1) determining that a mobile message includes an origination address that should not be displayed on a recipient device; and (2) including data in the mobile message to cause the origination address not to be displayed on the recipient device. The origination address which is selectively prevented from being displayed is one which is not provided by the prime, i.e., true originating sender of the mobile message. A call-back number may be similarly selectively displayed. The system and method provide a way to address recipient confusion that may arise from the display of origination information that is meaningless or otherwise incomprehensible to message recipients.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for maintaining statistic counters and updating a secondary counter memory via a queue for reducing or eliminating overflow of the counters. Multiple counter values are stored in a primary counter storage. An indication of a particular counter to update is received. An updated value for the particular counter is determined. A determination is made whether to store the updated value in the primary storage or to add to an update counter queue based on the updated value and an occupancy level of the update counter queue. In one implementation, this determination includes comparing a function of the updated value with the occupancy level. In one implementation, this determination includes comparing twice the updated value with the occupancy level. In one implementation, a backpressure signal is generated if the updated value is to be added to the update counter queue and the queue is full.

  • Patent number: 7292567
Abstract: A router for use in a network includes a scalable architecture and performs methods for implementing quality of service on a logical unit behind a network port; and for implementing storage virtualization. The architecture includes a managing processor, a supervising processor; and a plurality of routing processors coupled to a fabric. The managing processor has an in-band link to a routing processor. A routing processor receives a frame from the network, determines by parsing the frame, the protocol and logical unit number, and routes the frame to a queue according to a traffic class associated with the logical unit number in routing information prepared for the processors. An arbitration scheme empties the queue in accordance with a deficit round robin technique. If a routing processor detects the frame's destination is a virtual entity, and so is part of a virtual transaction, the router conducts a nonvirtual transaction in concert with the virtual transaction.

  • Patent number: 7016346
Abstract: Converters and a corresponding method for converting serial data to parallel format and vice versa, particularly for use in switches for telecommunications applications. The converters comprise a storage element associated with each serial channel and comprising two arrays of storage elements. At any one time, the storage elements are accessed sequentially while those of the other array are accessed in parallel. A data bus, divided into portions by buffers, connects the by buffers, connects the serial channel to all storage cells in an associated storage element. For serial to parallel conversion, the buffers latch data from one bus portion to the next in accordance with a write cycle during which one storage element is written. Writing commences from the bus portion furthest from the incoming serial channel and storage elements on either side of a buffer are written simultaneously. The resulting delay between writing arrays words allows checking of the data such as synchronization.
