Only Active Channels Transmitted Patents (Class 370/433)
  • Patent number: 8553712
Abstract: Carrier management in a wireless communication device assigned a set of two or more carriers by a wireless communication network is disclosed. In one aspect, a method of carrier management includes transmitting data over the wireless communication network on one or more carriers forming a subset of active carriers from the set of carriers assigned to the wireless communication device. A first performance metric is determined indicative of operating conditions across the set of carriers assigned to the wireless communication device. A desired number of carriers on which to transmit data based on the first performance metric is determined. The desired number of carriers on which to transmit data is compared with the number of carriers in the subset of active carriers. The subset of active carriers is dynamically adjusted based on the comparison and subsequent data is transmitted over the wireless communication network using the adjusted subset of active carriers.

  • Patent number: 8509150
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for operating a mesh network, especially according to IEEE standard 802.11s, wherein the mesh network comprises a plurality of network nodes, which have outer edge nodes and inner network nodes. A first edge node forms a connection point for external first stations disjunctive to the network, and a second edge node forms a connection point for external second stations disjunctive to the network, wherein data packets are to be exchanged between the first and second stations. During a switch of an external station from one edge node to another edge node, especially from a coverage area of the first edge node to a coverage area of the second network node, the respective association information of the network nodes is updated by means of an association message while inserting a validity duration for the association of the external stations connected to the edge nodes. The invention also relates to a device for carrying out the method for operating a mesh network.

Abstract: Techniques are provided herein to adaptively and independently disable use of subchannels in transmission sent from a first wireless communication device to a second wireless communication device. The first wireless communication device receives transmission sent to it by the second wireless communication device. The transmissions occupy some or all of a plurality of subchannels within a frequency band that are available for use in the transmission. The transmissions received at the first wireless communication device are evaluated in each subchannel for an over-the-air wireless link between the first wireless communication device and the second wireless communication device. Based on the evaluation, zero or more of the plurality of subchannels are independently disabled in transmissions that are sent by the first wireless communication device to the second wireless communication device.

Abstract: An alternating scheduling algorithm is useful in a mesh network. Transmissions are scheduled along a branch in a tree structure such that simultaneous transmissions occur only in non-adjacent layers along the branch. In a disclosed example, every other layer is grouped into a set of layers such that the sets are mutually exclusive and the sets only include non-adjacent layers. One example includes designating one set of layers as the even layers and another set as odd layers. A scheduler schedules transmissions on the layers such that simultaneous transmissions along a branch occur only on layers within one of the sets while transmissions on the other set along the same branch are prevented. The sets of layers selected for transmission are alternated each subsequent scheduling window or frame.

An RLC processing unit (40) of the transmission device acquires, from the reception device, a sequence number in a higher layer of data which is desired to be received; and performs the re-establishment from the data having the sequence number.

Abstract: A method and system for optimizing network traffic settings and for providing information on projected optimization of transformed traffic for a network includes: providing a traffic descriptor for sampled traffic data of the network; transforming the traffic data and extracting information on the transformed traffic data; and providing the traffic descriptor and the information on the transformed traffic data for analysis. The information can be a transformation traffic descriptor or a delta between untransformed and transformed network traffic. The traffic data and the transformed traffic data can then be modeled based the traffic descriptor and the information, respectively. Bandwidth requirements and quality of service settings for optimizing network performance for a service level can be provided based upon the traffic data model. Information on projected optimization of transformed network traffic can also be provided for the service level based upon the transformed traffic data model.

  • Patent number: 7733938
Abstract: An embodiment of an apparatus for channel assessment is provided, comprising a radio frequency (RF) unit, a baseband unit and a microprocessor control unit (MCU). The baseband unit coupling to the RF unit directs the RF unit to selectively hop into one of a plurality of available channels in a frequency band using a pseudorandom sequence to receive a plurality of packets via the hopped channel. The MCU coupling to the baseband unit accumulates a measure for the hopped channel according to reception results of the packets and marks the hopped channel as a bad channel when the accumulated measure exceeds a predetermined threshold. The measure represents the inaccuracy extent during packet reception via the hopped channel.

Abstract: A method and system for managing channels in a voice response system is provided. The method comprises periodically monitoring utilization of a system resource and determining a number, N, of voice channels required to be quiesced based on the utilization level of the system resource. This number is compared with the number of channels currently quiescing, Q, and the number of quiescing channels is adjusted accordingly. A quiescing channel is disabled when it becomes inactive.

  • Patent number: 7701958
Abstract: This disclosure is directed to techniques for supporting transition between network communication protocols in a communication network. The techniques may be applicable to different network communication protocols, but are especially useful in the transition from the IPv4 communication protocol to the IPv6 communication protocol in a wireless communication network. In general, to reduce consumption of scarce IPv4 address during the transition period, a network communication device implementing a dual IPv4/IPv6 stack acquires an IPv4 address only when necessary to communicate with IPv4 resources on the network. The network communication device uses an IPv6 address at the start of a communication session, and does not acquire an IPv4 address unless a need arises later in the session for communication with an IPv4 resource. The IPv4 address may be acquired for a limited period of time, such as fixed period of time or a period of actual usage, to further promote availability of IPv4 addresses.

Abstract: A method and system for efficiently delivering messages from a service provider to individual receiving devices in a unidirectional, multi-channel communications system that provides parallel distribution of information from the service provider to the receiving devices. The messages are transferred from the service provider to the receiving device only on an agreed-upon channel at an agreed-upon time, wherein each message is tagged with an address corresponding to the receiving device by the service provider and then transmitted by the service provider to the receiving device on the agreed-upon channel with the receiving device filtering the agreed-upon channel to detect the address and decode its messages. The agreed-upon channel and the agreed-upon time of message transfers are coordinated between the service provider and the receiving device prior to transferring the message from the service provider to the receiving device.

An embedded device may assert a link request pin to request to transmit data on a multi-point communications link that may serve a plurality of embedded devices. A controlling device may receive the link request signal. When the controlling device finishes sending data on the link, it may address the plurality of embedded devices in a round robin format and may determine which device asserted the link request pin. The embedded device that asserted the link request pin may send an acknowledgement signal to the controlling device when it is addressed.

  • Patent number: 7630393
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for increasing the efficiency with which data is transmitted over a network link. Voice packets are encoded to include header bits that indicate the presence and duration of pauses in the voice transmission. A Network linking device monitors incoming voice packets on a link, checking for the presence of a pause. The linking device also keeps track of all voice connections on the link. When none of the voice connections are active, the linking device increases the size of the maximum allowed transferable unit (MATU), thus fragmenting less data packets than it would have fragmented if a voice connection had been active. Fragmentation is reduced while maintaining sound quality.
