Abstract: Disclosed are a method, an apparatus, and a system for adjusting a contention window size for performing channel access. In detail, the method includes: receiving a plurality of hybrid automatic repeat request acknowledgement (HARQ-ACK) responses for downlink channel(s) of the specific cell; generating a random number N (N?0) in a contention window size; and performing the downlink transmission in the specific cell after standing by for N slots while the specific cell is idle, wherein when a ratio of negative acknowledgement (NACK) among the plurality of HARQ-ACK responses is equal to or more than a reference value, the contention window size becomes larger than a previous value, and when the ratio of the NACK among the plurality of HARQ-ACK responses is less than the reference value, the contention window size is reset to a minimum value.

  • Patent number: 9621970
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure provide efficient solutions for detecting and transmitting heartbeat frames at an optical line terminal (OLT) of an Ethernet passive optical network (EPON). The processing burden of a host CPU is reduced by shifting some of the processing responsibilities of the host CPU to an embedded CPU. An OAM capture FIFO buffer stores frames for later processing by the embedded CPU, and fields of an OAM vector register are changed whenever a heartbeat frame is detected for an LLID. Embedded CPU polls the OAM vector at a predetermined rate sufficient to maintain link status, so heartbeat messages are not missed even when the OAM capture FIFO buffer overflows. Additionally, an OAM generation buffer efficiently creates new heartbeat messages to be sent to ONUs for each supported LLID by modifying previously transmitted OAM frames with new information specific to the LLIDs.

Abstract: A direct-mode communication system comprises a first client direct-mode communication apparatus and a backhaul network. The first client direct-mode communication apparatus transmits a register signal to the backhaul network to register with the backhaul network. After the first client direct-mode communication apparatus is registered, the backhaul network determines a location relationship between the first client direct-mode communication apparatus and a second client direct-mode communication apparatus, and transmits a wi-fi connection signal to the first client direct-mode communication apparatus according to the location relationship. The first client direct-mode communication apparatus creates a wi-fi direct-mode communication connection with the second client direct-mode communication apparatus according to the wi-fi connection signal.

Abstract: Technologies are generally described to provide a distributed scheme that enables a Green-energy Aware and the Latency Aware (GALA) user-base station (BS) associations in wireless networks, whose BSs are powered by both on-grid energy and green energy. According to some examples, the GALA approach may consider traffic delivery latency and green energy generation rate in BSs to determine the user-BS association. The GALA approach may converge to a particular solution, which may reduce the summation of the weighted latency ratios of BSs, while enabling a trade-off between the on-grid power consumption and the average traffic delivery latency.

Abstract: A wireless mesh network enables multiple devices near each other to transmit simultaneously, thus allowing increased network bandwidth. Prior to transmitting, a device may determine various parameters of the wireless medium on which it desires to transmit. For example, the device may determine whether the intended recipient device is close enough, and verify that any other transmitting and receiving devices are far enough away. If these or any other suitable criteria are met, the device can transmit simultaneously with other devices in the vicinity.

  • Patent number: 9240850
Abstract: Spectrum sensing in wireless communications is provided to identify utilized and/or unutilized frequency bands reserved for primary users using a cyclostationary beamforming approach. An adaptive cross self-coherent restoral (ACS) algorithm can be utilized to extract signals of interest (SOI) at unique cycle frequencies related to primary and/or secondary users from an antenna array measurement. Based on the SOI, one or more users of the spectrum can be identified or the spectrum can be regarded as vacant; this can be based on lobe identification in the frequency spectrum of the SOI, in one example. This mechanism is less complex than traditional cyclic spectrum analysis methods. The cyclostationary beamforming based approach is more effective than the energy detection method. Also, the need for quiet periods in spectrum sensing is eliminated when using this mechanism such that signals can be transmitted simultaneously with receiving signals over the antenna array.

  • Patent number: 9198198
Abstract: Transmission over a communication channel using carrier sense multiple access collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) may be performed by determining for each frame if the communication channel is busy after a backoff time proportional to a randomly generated number within a contention window (CW). When the channel is not busy, a frame of data may be transmitted. When the channel is busy, the device may periodically determine if the communication channel is busy after subsequent backoff times. The value of CW is adjusted for each subsequent backoff time using a fairness protocol, in which the value of CW is increased until the value of CW reaches a maximum CW value; and then the value of CW is held until a fairness number of backoff repetitions reaches a fairness threshold; then the value of CW is reduced incrementally until the value of CW reaches a minimum CW value.

Abstract: An electronic device may be operable to control access to a physical medium (e.g., airwaves, a copper cable, or an optical fiber) utilizing carrier sense multiple access (CSMA). The amount of time that the electronic device must sense the physical medium as being inactive before it permits transmission of a message onto the physical medium may be determined based on: the size of the message, the type of the message, the symbol rate at which the message is to be transmitted, and/or a channel onto which the message is to be transmitted. Similarly, other aspects of how and when electronic device transmits and/or receives on the physical medium may be controlled via one or more dynamically configurable parameters which may be configured based on characteristics of received and/or to-be-transmitted messages.

  • Patent number: 9191971
Abstract: A method and system reduce interference between overlapping first and second wireless LAN cells contending for the same medium. Each cell includes a respective plurality of member stations. An inter-cell contention-free period value is assigned to a first access point station in the first cell, associated with an accessing order in the medium for member stations in the first and second cells. The access point in the first cell transmits an initial shield packet to deter other stations from contending for the medium. The access point then transmits a beacon packet containing the inter-cell contention-free period value to member stations in the second cell. A second access point in the second cell can then delay transmissions by member stations in the second cell until after the inter-cell contention-free period expires.
