Arbitration For Access Between Contending Stations Patents (Class 370/447)
  • Patent number: 9094232
Abstract: A network node in a resource reservation network includes a data receiver, a transmitter and a timing adjustment requester. The data receiver receives fixed size application protocol data units (APDUs) from an application at fixed intervals. The transmitter transmits data from the network node to the network within transmission opportunities (TXOPs) associated with a constant data service flow for the application specified associated with the application and the network node in a media access plan (MAP) generated by a network scheduler. The timing adjustment requester requests adjustments of the network scheduler to the timing of TXOPs associated with the constant data service flow in order to minimize a delay between the arrival of the APDUs and their transmittal to the network.

Abstract: A mobile station involved in a call receives a forward link signal from a radio access network (RAN) and transmits a reverse link signal to the RAN. If the mobile station detects a reception failure of the forward link signal, such as the receipt of an errored frame, the mobile station transmits a wait time to the RAN. The wait time specifies how long the reception failure can continue before the mobile station will discontinue transmitting the reverse link signal. In response, the RAN may increase the transmit power level at which the RAN transmits the forward link signal, such that a maximum transmit power level is reached during the wait time. The wait time could be based on a user preference and/or user behavior with respect to abandoning calls.

  • Patent number: 8861437
Abstract: For an example embodiment, a method for a communication device operating in a synchronous communication system is described. The method includes performing a listen-before-talk (LBT) procedure prior to the start of a downlink subframe of a synchronous frame and determining if a transmission from another communication device of another communication system is detected during the LBT procedure. In the case that a transmission is detected during the LBT procedure, the communication device refrains from transmitting during the downlink subframe. In the case that a transmission is not detected during the LBT procedure, the communication device transmits during the downlink subframe.

  • Patent number: 8830837
Abstract: In one embodiment, a receiving node in a computer network may detect congestion, and also identifies a set (e.g., subset) of its neighbor nodes. In response to the congestion, the receiving node may assign a transmission timeslot to each neighbor node of the set based on the congestion, where each neighbor is allowed to transmit (synchronously) only during its respective timeslot. The assigned timeslots may then be transmitted to the set of neighbor nodes. In another embodiment, a transmitting node (e.g., a neighbor node of the receiving node) may receive a scheduling packet from the receiving node. Accordingly, the transmitting node may determine its assigned transmission timeslot during which the transmitting node is allowed to transmit. As such, the transmitting node may then transmit packets only during the assigned timeslot (e.g., for a given time). In this manner, congestion at the receiving node may be reduced.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for MAC in-order delivery are disclosed. The MAC in-order delivery may be activated per-connection and may be negotiated at connection setup. The MAC in-order delivery either for non-ARQ connections or ARQ connections may be performed by using HARQ packet ordering information. Alternatively, the MAC in-order delivery may be performed using a sequence number (SN) field at the MAC PDU level or using an SN field at the MAC SDU level. For a connection that has MAC in-order delivery disabled, the MAC PDU may not include an SN field, and an SN field may be included in a MAC extended header or a MAC sub-header when needed.

  • Patent number: 8824494
Abstract: In one embodiment, conflicts are identified by sending and announcement message from the first node to neighboring nodes from among the plurality of second nodes indicating that the first node intends to participate in a first communication with a first terminal during the current frame, and receiving a report message from any conflicting nodes at the first node, each conflicting node being a node from among the neighboring nodes which intends to participate in a different communication. Conflicts are resolved by selecting one of (1) maintaining a state of the first node as a clear state and (2) changing the state of the first node to a blocked state based on the received report messages. The first communication is scheduled for the current time frame, if the state of the first node is the clear state after the resolving conflicts step.

  • Patent number: 8811420
Abstract: A system and method for wireless communication is disclosed. One aspect of the system includes wireless devices, wherein the wireless devices are capable of establishing a peer-to-peer link by contention-based channel access, and wherein the wireless devices are free to contend any time for accessing a wireless channel. The system may include first and second wireless devices, each of which has a directional antenna system. The first wireless device can determine whether the wireless channel is available for establishing a peer-to-peer link, by repeating sensing whether the channel is idle in different directions each during different slot time periods. The first wireless device can also sequentially transmit multiple requests each in different directions for establishing a link with the second wireless device. The second wireless device can sequentially transmit multiple replies each in different directions for establishing the link with the first wireless device.

  • Patent number: 8787159
Abstract: Exemplary methods and apparatuses are provided for throttling wireless traffic during congestion in radio access networks. Embodiments are provided that may assist service providers to reduce new requests for network resources during congestion and allow existing lower priority traffic to be pre-empted with a backoff time to allow a new request with higher priority traffic to be served. In response to a request for an additional connection to a radio access network from a terminal device that has one or more existing connections in the radio access network, an access network controller will compare a priority level of a requested connection to a priority level of other existing connections in the radio access network. The access network controller may reject or grant the request based on the comparison and send the terminal device a backoff time value and a congestion indicator.
