Multiplexing Plural Input Channels To A Common Output Channel Patents (Class 370/537)
  • Patent number: 7630413
Abstract: A system for improving the transmission efficiency of channels involved in multilink communication and reducing the load of processing. A first data transmission apparatus changes the number of transmission channels involved in multilink communication from “x” to “y”, acquires SS (sampling size) and SPF(samples per frame) associated with the number of transmission channels “y” from an SS/SPF table, generates multilink frames based on the acquired SS and SPF, and transmits them to a second data transmission apparatus. When it is detected that the number of transmission channels has been changed from “x” to “y”, the second data transmission apparatus acquires the SS and SPF associated with the number of transmission channels “y” from the SS/SPF table, generates multilink frames based on the acquired SS and SPF, and transmits them to the first data transmission apparatus.

Abstract: Multiplexing of information from a plurality of information flows into fixed-length packets such as, but not limited to, MPEG packets allows efficient utilization of bandwidth and also can be used to reduce transmission latency. In addition, utilizing MPEG packets and transport streams for octet multiplexing allows the packets carrying octet-multiplexed data to easily be integrated with other MPEG packets for other services that are commonly found in cable transmission networks of all coax, hybrid fiber coax, and/or all fiber. Moreover, the multiplexing techniques described herein will work in both wired (or constrained media) and wireless (or free-space propagation) environments. The multiplexing/demultiplexing of octets using MPEG packets generally is described by mappings that specify the use of octets in MPEG packets. Changes to allocations in a map generally should be propagated in a way that reliably ensures that both the transmitter and receiver have a consistent view of the octet mappings.

Abstract: Methods and systems for indexing programs are described. In accordance with one embodiment, program data associated with a program recorded on a first entertainment system is processed sufficient to create one or more signatures. The signatures define points of reference that can be utilized to synchronize timecodes associated with other recorded versions of the program from which the signatures were created. One or more indices are created and associated with the program from which the signatures were created. An index file can be created and can contain the created indices as well as the created signatures. A client system that receives the index file can use the signatures to synchronize the timecode on its recorded version of the program with a timecode of the program from which the signatures were created. Once the timecodes are synchronized, the client system can locate the same indices on its recorded version of the program.

  • Patent number: 7551690
Abstract: A transmitter (1) converts an input signal from a microphone (2) into a plural-bit digital signal by means of an A/D converter (4) at predetermined time intervals. An encoder (6) divides the digital signal into plural blocks and adds a parity bit to each block to thereby form a coded signal. A transmitting unit (8) modulates a carrier with the coded signal and transmits the modulated carrier through an antenna (10). A receiver (12) includes two tuning units (18A, 18B). Corresponding coded signals outputted from the tuning units (18A, 18B) are inputted to a decoder (20). The decoder (20) makes a parity check on respective blocks of the corresponding coded signals and selects and outputs an error-free one of the corresponding blocks of the corresponding coded signals.

Abstract: Method and system for a high-speed multiplexer with reduced inter-symbol interference are disclosed. In one embodiment of the present invention, two input bit streams are interleaved by a multiplexer to derive an output bit stream. Each input bit stream is latched by a return-to-differential-zero latch that drives its input bit stream to a neutral state when it is not selected by the multiplexer as output. In an alternate embodiment of the present invention, a pre-selector receives two input signals, determines which of the two input signals will be selected as output of the multiplexer and passes the bit stream unaltered, while passing a differential zero value in place of the unselected input bit stream.

Abstract: A system and method for providing link, node, and PG policy based routing in PNNI based ATM networks is disclosed. A computer implemented method signals and routes a call in the network. Upon detecting the call's arrival, its service request is accessed. Upon determining that the service request relates to an attribute of a link, a routing path is sought that conforms to the service request, as by accessing information relating to the routing path and comparing the information to the service request. A conforming routing path is selected, and the call is routed via that path. A computer implemented method advertises an attribute of links, nodes, policies, etc. Data relating to the route's attribute can be provided to a node as a GAT IE component of a PNNI signaling setup message for multi-peer group networks, and advertised using PTSEs within a peer group.

Abstract: A forward error correction (FEC) encoding system and method optimized for protecting real-time audio-video streams for transmission over packet-switched networks with minimal latency. Embodiments of this invention provide bandwidth-efficient and low-latency FEC for both variable and constant bit-rate MPEG-encoded audio and video streams. To maximize bandwidth-efficiency and playable frame rate for recovered media streams, embodiments of the invention may sort packets by content type and aggregate them into FEC blocks weighted by sensitivity in the recovered stream to packet loss of a particular content type. Embodiments of this invention may use temporal constraints to limit FEC block size and thereby facilitate their use in the transport of VBR streams.

Abstract: Improved systems and methods for processing data traveling in a network in an efficient manner are provided. In many network implementations input/output ports have one or a small number of bandwidths. These ports sometimes lead to higher bandwidth ports than the source or destination needs. A method and system are provided wherein some of the input and output ports are known to be underutilized. Only a relatively small number of output ports require a complicated merge scheduler that provides configurable data transmission “fairness” between input ports. Accordingly, a method and system are provided wherein preprocessing of input data reduces the cost of the merge circuits required at the outputs.

Abstract: In an information transmission method, a radio communications system, a base station and a mobile station, a TBS size, a modulation scheme and the number of codes in a multicode are converted into identification data having a relatively smaller data size before being transmitted to a destination of communication. The TBS size is identified by using, in combination, an identification code identifying a channelization code set, an identification code identifying a modulation scheme, and an identification code obtained by converting a combination of the number of codes in a multicode and a modulation pattern identification (TFRC) into a corresponding code. Accordingly, the data size for TBS size identification is reduced.

Abstract: The invention relates to a system and method for the generation of television channels and which allows the generation of the same by the processing and selection of designated packets of data from multiple data transport streams, which each transport stream including numerous packets of data. In each transport stream the packet of data is identified by the allocations of a packet identification code (PID) and each is held in the transport packet which is transmitted as part of each transport stream. In accordance with the invention, and in order to prevent errors and inaccurate packet selection, a Transport Stream Identification Code (TSID) is allocated to each of the transport streams of data received. Typically the TSID is located in the transport packet for each transport stream of data. In the selection of a packet of data, the appropriate TSID is referred to identify the appropriate transport stream and the PID then referred to identify the packet of data from that transport stream.

Abstract: A method for communication includes receiving a composite signal, which carries data at a first data rate and includes multiple sub-signals that are interleaved in a time domain and are separated by boundary indicators. The received composite signal is demultiplexed into the sub-signals by automatically detecting the boundary indicators between the sub-signals in the composite signal. The sub-signals are demodulated using multiple respective demodulators operating at second data rates that are lower than the first data rate so as to generate respective output data streams. The output data streams are combined so as to reconstruct the data at the first data rate.

Abstract: Described herein are systems and methods for processing and transmitting data included in packets with jitter. The systems and methods combine a jitter buffer and a buffer scanned by a look ahead window as a combined buffer. The combined buffer varies look ahead window and performance of a process that uses the look ahead window based on the current jitter support in the buffer. More specifically, the flexible buffering techniques flexibly adapt the size of the look ahead window based on the amount of buffer space used for jitter support. When jitter support requirements are low, the size of the look ahead window is increased. When the look ahead window is implemented with a multiplexer, the multiplexer may benefit from a larger look ahead window and improve multiplexer performance. Improved multiplexer performance may lead to less or more intelligent re-encoding and bit rate reduction for video data transmission applications, leading to improved decoded output video quality.

Abstract: A “seamless multiplexer,” as described herein, provides a flexible and efficient system and method for multiplexing embedded coded bitstreams. Further, unlike the conventional JPEG 2000 standard, the seamless multiplexer is capable of decoding multiplexed encoded bitstreams without the need to use a demultiplexing aide as overhead in the encoded signal. In general, the seamless multiplexer provides a novel approach for multiplexing code block bitstreams by using a “decoder pointer,” for multiplexing multiple embedded bitstreams without the use of a demultiplexing aide. Consequently, the seamless multiplexer not only reduces any multiplexing overhead, but also allows much smaller granularity of access in reshaping the compressed input signal. In addition, in one embodiment, the seamless multiplexer also uses dependencies between coefficient blocks to further improve overall compression efficiency.
