Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and apparatuses for sensing noise sources in a wireline communications environment such as a customer premises environment in a DSL system. In embodiments, the invention includes an additional sensor that is connected to power mains in a DSL customer premises environment either to characterize, at their source, noises coupling into the DSL lines, and/or to mitigate their impact into the DSL lines. One objective is associated with diagnostics that help to better characterize the noise signals themselves and derive correlation of signals sensed from the power mains and their possible projection onto the DSL line. Another objective makes use of these power line sensor signals to mitigate or to eliminate power line noises that make their way onto the DSL line. Example embodiments further include and exploit signals from additional secondary sensors such as secondary common mode, differential mode and phantom mode sensors.

  • Patent number: 9236906
Abstract: A transmitter device transmits data over a physical communication link to at least one destination. A monitor resource monitors a frequency band of signals on the physical communication link. At least a portion of the monitored frequency band in the physical communication link used to transmit the data is also allocated for transmissions of wireless communications in a vicinity of the physical communication link. The physical communication link may be damaged for any number of reasons such as a loose connector, rodent chewing on the physical communication link, etc. The damaged locations of the physical communication link are places where the wireless communications are more likely to couple onto the physical communication link and cause interference. In response to detecting presence of an interference signal in the monitored frequency band of the physical communication link, the monitor resource transmits one or more notifications.

  • Patent number: 9209782
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for representing quasi-periodic (“qp”) waveforms comprising, representing a plurality of limited decompositions of the qp waveform, wherein each decomposition includes a first and second amplitude value and at least one time value. In some embodiments, each of the decompositions is phase adjusted such that the arithmetic sum of the plurality of limited decompositions reconstructs the qp waveform. These decompositions are stored into a data structure having a plurality of attributes. Optionally, these attributes are used to reconstruct the qp waveform, or patterns or features of the qp wave can be determined by using various pattern-recognition techniques. Some embodiments provide a system that uses software, embedded hardware or firmware to carry out the above-described method. Some embodiments use a computer-readable medium to store the data structure and/or instructions to execute the method.

Abstract: An alternative approach to coping with the ever increasing demand for faster communications hardware is to design modems that are capable of operating its speeds at a higher data rate than a speed required for a single port of the standard communication rate for that modem. Basically, by utilizing a resource manager, that directs the data in and out of the various portions of the modem in an orderly manner, keeping track of which of the ports is being operated at any given point in time, a standard single port modem can be reconfigured, for example, at an over clocked rate, to manipulate the data input and output of a modem.

  • Patent number: 9197474
Abstract: A master apparatus includes a guard interval length determination portion that requests a plurality of slave apparatuses to cause the slave apparatuses to transmit respective OFDM signals of regular sequence in order without being mutually overlapped. The OFDM signal is obtained by adding a guard interval having a specified initial length to a regular valid symbol that is obtained by applying OFDM modulation to a regular data. A correlator outputs a cross correlation value between the regular sequence and a reception sample sequence. The guard interval length determination portion stores as a delay time a time interval from when the cross correlation value exceeds a first threshold value to when the cross correlation value exceeds a second threshold value. A common length of the guard interval is determined based on the maximum delay time among the delay times with respect to the respective slave apparatuses.
