  • Patent number: 8811459
Abstract: In a modular signal mirroring system each point-to-point RF transceiver end has a controller module coupled to one or more I/O modules. The I/O modules have various input and output circuits. A signal received at the near end is reconstructed at the far end after being transmitted in an RF packet. The reconstructed signal may be the same as the input signal, inverted from the input signal or level-shifted from the input signal. It is representative of the input signal following the input signal's state after a time-quantization latency. Transmission between the two ends is via a periodic transmission controlled in a master slave protocol. If a transmission is not received in a timely manner or, in some systems, if intentional interference with transmissions is detected, the reconstructed signal is forced to a safe state determined by local switch settings. The settings include the last known good state.

Abstract: A DSL transmitter and receiver are disclosed that are capable of accurately measuring crosstalk in G.vector-compliant DSL lines resulting from a legacy line. During crosstalk measurement, the legacy line can be placed in a showtime mode. Once in showtime mode, a data signal designated for the legacy line is reduced in power spectrum density and/or spectrum to reduce its effects on crosstalk measurements. An O-P-Vector-1 signal is then superposed on the reduced data signal, and the resulting test signal is transmitted over the legacy line while sync signals are transmitted over neighboring G.vector lines. The receiver can then accurately measure the crosstalk on the neighboring lines, and report back to the transceiver for adjustments. A similar configuration can be performed in a diagnostic mode of the legacy line.

Abstract: In a method for processing unsolicited result codes (URCs) of a communication device, keywords of a URC are extracted when the URC is sent from a modem of the communication device to an operating system of the communication device. A digital code of the keywords is obtained by encoding the extracted keywords. A function of the communication device is executed to process the received URC according to the digital code of the keywords.

Abstract: The ability of clock and data recovery (“CDR”) circuitry on an integrated circuit (“IC”) to handle jitter in a serial data input signal can be tested by using transmitter circuitry on the IC to produce a serial data output signal whose time base has been subjected to modulation. Loop-back circuitry on the IC may be used to apply the serial data output signal to the CDR circuitry as the serial data input signal of the CDR circuitry. Modulation circuitry on the IC may be used to cause the above modulation of the time base of the serial data output signal.

Abstract: Improved diagnostics of transmission line (100) noise are enabled by adapting DSL equipment (110, 120) to make measurements of quiet line noise also in the transmit bands, so that noise can be measured at both ends for the same frequency or frequency bands. An estimate of the point where noise enters the line, as well as an estimate of the noise power at that point can be made from the relationship between the so measured noise levels at both ends of the line.

Abstract: An alternative approach to coping with the ever increasing demand for faster communications hardware is to design modems that are capable of operating its speeds at a higher data rate than a speed required for a single port of the standard communication rate for that modem. Basically, by utilizing a resource manager, that directs the data in and out of the various portions of the modem in an orderly manner, keeping track of which of the ports is being operated at any given point in time, a standard single port modem can be reconfigured, for example, at an over clocked rate, to manipulate the data input and output of a modem.

Abstract: System and method for implementing a link aggregation system, a protection system, and an XPIC application for an all outdoor radios system using a wireless channel operating at a license-free 60 GHz band are provided. The license-free 60 GHz band offers a wide frequency bandwidth that can support a high speed data rate up to 10 Gbps in full duplex mode, frequency reuse, and high security due to its fast oxygen absorption at 60 GHz. As such, a wireless channel operating at the license-free 60 GHz band may be used for a link aggregation system to support wireless local area network (LAN) connections with the speed up to 7 Gbps. In addition, a wireless connection operating at the license-free 60 GHz band may be used to support both XPIC application and protection system for all outdoor radios to achieve a transmission speed of up to 10 Gbps in a full duplex mode.
