Abstract: An outdoor radio communication system housed in a single enclosure comprises a first transceiver, a second transceiver, a communication interface unit, an RF in-phase transmit combiner, an antenna coupling unit and a receive filter. The first transceiver includes a first receiver and a first transmitter. The second transceiver includes a second receiver and a second transmitter. The two transceivers are communicatively coupled with the communication interface unit. The RF in-phase transmit combiner, communicatively coupled to the first transmitter and the second transmitter, receives a phase-aligned RF signal from each transmitter, to create a third RF signal with enhanced signal gain. The two phase-aligned RF signals originate from the same source in the communication interface unit. The antenna coupling unit is communicatively coupled to the RF in-phase transmit combiner and the first receiver, and the receive filter is communicatively coupled to the second receiver.

Abstract: In one aspect of a multiple-access OFDM-CDMA system, data spreading is performed in the frequency domain by spreading each data stream with a respective spreading code selected from a set of available spreading codes. To support multiple access, system resources may be allocated and de-allocated to users (e.g., spreading codes may be assigned to users as needed, and transmit power may be allocated to users). Variable rate data for each user may be supported via a combination of spreading adjustment and transmit power scaling. Interference control techniques are also provided to improve system performance via power control of the downlink and/or uplink transmissions to achieve the desired level of performance while minimizing interference. A pilot may be transmitted by each transmitter unit to assist the receiver units perform acquisition, timing synchronization, carrier recovery, handoff, channel estimation, coherent data demodulation, and so on.

  • Patent number: 8942636
Abstract: An adaptive scheme controls the transmission of interference management messages by wireless nodes. For example, the adaptive scheme may be used to determine whether and/or how to transmit resource utilization messages. Such a determination may be based on, for example, comparison of a quality of service threshold with a current quality of service level associated with received data. A quality of service threshold may be adapted based on the effect of previously transmitted resource utilization messages. A quality of service threshold for a given wireless node may be adapted based on the frequency at which the wireless node transmits resource utilization messages. A quality of service threshold for a given wireless node may be adapted based on information received from another wireless node. An adaptation scheme also may depend on the type of traffic received by a given wireless node. A quality of service threshold also may be adapted based on throughput information.

Abstract: According to one embodiment of a method for interference suppression in radio-over-fiber communication systems, the method uses a mode selection module to continuously update real time information of at least two mobile stations and determine to enter a cross mode or a single mode. In the single mode, when a mobile station approaches a switching point, a single mode command is issued to control at least one first specific remote antenna unit (RAU). In the cross mode, when an immediate cross condition is a new cross condition, a new cross mode table is generated, and when the position of any one mobile station of the at least two mobile stations cross a threshold, a cross mode command is issued to control at least one second specific RAU according to a corresponding cross mode table.

  • Patent number: 8929470
Abstract: A system and method that scrambles the phase characteristic of a carrier signal are described. The scrambling of the phase characteristic of each carrier signal includes associating a value with each carrier signal and computing a phase shift for each carrier signal based on the value associated with that carrier signal. The value is determined independently of any input bit value carried by that carrier signal. The phase shift computed for each carrier signal is combined with the phase characteristic of that carrier signal so as to substantially scramble the phase characteristic of the carrier signals. Bits of an input signal are modulated onto the carrier signals having the substantially scrambled phase characteristic to produce a transmission signal with a reduced PAR.

  • Patent number: 8929423
Abstract: Upon detection of a trigger, such as the exceeding of an error threshold or the direction of a user, a diagnostic link system enters a diagnostic information transmission mode. This diagnostic information transmission mode allows for two modems to exchange diagnostic and/or test information that may not otherwise be exchangeable during normal communication. The diagnostic information transmission mode is initiated by transmitting an initiate diagnostic link mode message to a receiving modem accompanied by a cyclic redundancy check (CRC). The receiving modem determines, based on the CRC, if a robust communications channel is present. If a robust communications channel is present, the two modems can initiate exchange of the diagnostic and/or test information. Otherwise, the transmission power of the transmitting modem is increased and the initiate diagnostic link mode message re-transmitted to the receiving modem until the CRC is determined to be correct.

  • Patent number: 8929422
Abstract: A method and apparatus of minimizing corruption of a reference clock to a RF circuitry in a radio system is disclosed. A DICE-T receives a reference clock in a Low Voltage Differential Signal (LVDS) format from a GVA. The DICE-T personality card converts the reference clock signal into an analog signal. The analog signal is supplied to the Core Engine RF card and the LVDS format signal is supplied to the Core Engine modem for local clocking. The Core Engine RF feeds the analog signal into a programmable phase locked loop chip to generate all the clocks required for RF processing. The analog signal is also used to provide the clocks to the ADC and DAC of core engine modem. By routing the reference clock directly to the RF card then deriving the modem clocks, the phase noise of the reference clock is reduced.

  • Patent number: 8923371
Abstract: A SerDes data sampling controller that includes a gear shifting data sampling clock that zeroes the data sampling skew at the center of the unit interval during the CDR phase lock stage, and then skews the data sample timing away from the center of the unit interval as the DFE coefficients adapt during the data transfer stage. This allows the controller to implement the best (unskewed) data sample timing during the CDR phase locking stage, and then skew the data sample timing after the DFE coefficients have adapted to provide the best (skewed) data sample timing for data bit sampling during the data transfer stage. The data sampling gear shifter may apply a variable skew value to the transition sampling or quadrature (Q) data sampling clock differentially varying the quadrature (Q) transition sampling clock from the inphase (I) data sampling clock.
