Abstract: System and method for submitting a location of a mobile device to a public service for providing emergency assistance are described. A mobile device can determine that a user is making an emergency call from the mobile device. The mobile device can then enable a location determination function of the mobile device and determine a location of the mobile device. The mobile device can determine the location in multiple attempts, including, in a first time window, attempting to determine a location with low uncertainty and, if the attempt fails, determining a location with high uncertainty in a second time window. The mobile device can then submit the location to a dispatcher through a mobile network operator.

  • Patent number: 9641679
Abstract: A policy routing function (“PRF”) allows requests for emergency services (e.g., 9-1-1 calls, text messages to 9-1-1, etc.) dynamically routed to an emergency responder based on rules and/or user defined geographic overrides in support of Next Generation 9-1-1. Each user provided geographic polygon layer within this data set is represented by one or more polygons, with each polygon containing routing criteria, routing rules, priority, and expiration parameters. This geographic data set may also have a base geographic polygon layer of one or more polygons that define the “normal” or “default” routing conditions. Utilizing a user provided geographic data set the PRF interrogates an emergency caller's location against the polygon(s) and applies the routing rules of the highest level geographic polygon layer polygon that has a true routing condition.

IP signals from alarm customers may go to any monitoring center for alarm system monitoring. IP signals from alarm systems using IP conversion equipment can go only to monitoring centers with specialized receiving equipment specific to the type of transmitting equipment in use at the customer's premises. There is a pool of customers, whose dealers would convert to IP and stay with the current monitoring center if the center invested in receiving equipment. For the many small centers who will not or cannot invest in receiving equipment, the present invention will take IP signals from any or all brands of IP transmitting equipment, to a central server then retransmit to any center over POTS to the alarm monitoring center.

  • Patent number: 9325631
Abstract: A system and method for improved upstream data transmission. In an embodiment, a cable modem includes a transceiver configured for transmitting data upstream once permission is granted. In between times when permission to transmit is granted, however, the cable modem is configured to prepare as much data as possible for immediate upstream transmission once that very permission is granted. Thus, prior to permission being granted, the cable modem assembles (pre-processes) the data into transmit frames such that the data frames may be stored in a local memory coupled to the transceiver in a “ready-to-go” format. In this manner, the entire amount of time/bandwidth allocated to the cable modem in response to its request for upstream data transmission may be dedicated to actually transmitting data upstream as opposed to consuming time and bandwidth processing the data into data frames after upstream data transmission has been granted.
