Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a system for generating an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) database, the system comprising a processor and a memory coupled to the processor. The memory comprising a list of telephone numbers associated with one or more destinations implementing IVR menus, wherein the one or more destinations are grouped based on a plurality of categories of the IVR menus. Further the memory includes instructions executable by said processor for automatically communicating with the one of more destinations, and receiving at least one customization record from said at least one destination to store in the IVR database.

Abstract: A method and communication device for scheduling a conference call. The method includes receiving, in a first communication device, an invitation message containing at least some conference call scheduling information with respect to a scheduled conference call session; displaying an interface in relation to the invitation message, the interface including an option to send a request for recorded conference call content of the scheduled conference call session; receiving an input selecting the option; and sending a communication to a second communication device including a response to the invitation message and including said request for recorded conference call content. A conference call server is also described for sending recorded conference call content to the communication device.

Abstract: A method of and a communications system for providing a calling party (1) information (27) of a message (18) that is played to the calling party (1) in a communications system, when the calling party (1) calls (10) a called party (2) and the called party (2) is being alerted (13) of the call and/or after the called party has disconnected from the call. The information (27) is provided electronically on request (24) of the calling party (1). The calling party (1) may be prompted (28) to indicate (24) whether to receive the information (27). The prompt (28) may be provided while the message (18) is playing. The information (27) to be provided may include downloading of the message (18) or part thereof or content comparable with the message (18), such as an audio clip, a video clip or as a ring tone to be used by the calling party (1).

Abstract: A method and system for providing context of a caller to a callee when a call is initiated is provided. The context system executing on the calling device collects context for the call. The calling device initiates the call and sends a message to the callee that includes the context. Upon receiving the message, the callee device notifies the caller that a call has been initiated and displays the received context. The callee can decide based on the received context whether to answer the call or not answer the call.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for retrieving all voicemail messages at the same time on packet networks such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and Service over Internet Protocol (SoIP) networks are disclosed. For example, the customer subscribes to a voicemail service where a plurality of voicemails can be retrieved and listened to at the same time. Specifically, when the customer accesses the voicemail service, the application server engages the media server to play the audio files from each of the voicemail messages at the same time, i.e., in a continuous or consecutive manner via a single input. Namely, the audio files are played consecutively without requiring another input from the customer, unless the customer wishes to execute a voicemail function.

Abstract: A system and method of updating automatic speech recognition parameters on a mobile device are disclosed. The method comprises storing user account-specific adaptation data associated with ASR on a computing device associated with a wireless network, generating new ASR adaptation parameters based on transmitted information from the mobile device when a communication channel between the computing device and the mobile device becomes available and transmitting the new ASR adaptation data to the mobile device when a communication channel between the computing device and the mobile device becomes available. The new ASR adaptation data on the mobile device more accurately recognizes user utterances.

Abstract: A “customized” caller ID service platform is utilized within a telecommunications network (which may be the PSTN, an IP network, or any other network for supporting voice communication) to allow for the caller ID information transmitted to a called party to be tailored to the specific called party. A database within the platform is configured to store a listing of registered subscribers and a set of “pre-defined called numbers” associated with each subscriber. For each listed number, the subscriber provides the specific customized information (for example, an account number) that is to be transmitted to that specific called number as the caller ID information. A registered subscriber is able to gain access to the platform and modify the entries as need be.

Abstract: A system, method and program product for providing voice response unit (VRU) shortcuts. A system is provided that includes: a user interface for allowing a user to input a targeted VRU, a goal, and call-specific information; a data mapping system for mapping the call specific information and user information pre-stored in a database to a VRU map associated with VRU; a VRU interface system for initiating a call with the targeted VRU and navigating the targeted VRU to an option associated with the goal; and a system for telephonically connecting the user with the targeted VRU when the option associated with the goal is reached.

Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for broadcasting Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) messages. A method incorporating teachings of the present disclosure may include receiving an indication that a message should be delivered to a plurality of recipients. In response, contact information for the plurality of recipients may be identified, and an outbound packetized call to each of the recipients may be launched. In practice, the packetized call may be in a VoIP form or some other appropriate packetized form. If a call is answered, the call may be connected to a multicast server capable of playing the to-be-delivered message.

Abstract: Aspects of the present invention are directed at obtaining contextual information with a voicemail message. In accordance with one embodiment, a method is provided that obtains additional contextual information that is not obtained automatically when a voicemail message is received. More specifically, the method includes automatically obtaining a first set of contextual information from a client associated with the caller when the caller is transferred to a voicemail system. Then a determination is made regarding whether the callee requests that additional contextual information be obtained. If the callee requests that additional contextual information be obtained, the requested information is obtained from a third-party service or by prompting the caller.

Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed that enable a terminal such as a computer-based softphone to retrieve and handle, transparently for its user, the voicemail that has been left by calling parties who called the user's cell-phone number. Furthermore, the softphone is able to integrate the presentation to its user of the voicemail associated with the cell phone with the voicemail that has been left by calling parties who called the softphone itself. The softphone features both i) a personal area network interface that is used to communicate directly with the cell phone and ii) a local area network interface that is used to retrieve the cell-phone voicemail from a voicemail system. Once the softphone is paired with the cell phone, the softphone is able to retrieve signals directly from the cell phone and, based on those signals, retrieves the voicemail from the cell phone's voicemail system.

Abstract: A programmable in-the-skin or intelligently connected message on hold delivery system is disclosed which comprises a message storage system and a processor for generating prompts which are transmitted to a control device. The prompts are received at the control device and allow an operator to select from a number of options in order to select, among other things, certain ones of the messages stored on said message storage system for playback, as well as the sequence in which said messages are to be played back. The message playback devices are each provided with one or more libraries of messages, and comprise at least one or more audio and/or visual advertising messages. Said system enables the user to start a pre-recorded audio or visual message at the beginning each time a caller is placed on hold in the telephone system.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a method, apparatus and system for enhancing a processing priority. The method include: acquiring a predefined processing priority which includes a first priority and a second priority; and adjusting the first priority and/or the second priority to a third priority higher than the first priority and/or a fourth priority higher than the second priority respectively according to relevant information of a subscriber. The embodiments of the present invention adjust the processing priority of service according to the relevant information of the subscriber, to make the adjusted processing priority be higher than the predefined processing priority; therefore, it can provide different subscribers with customized service information providing sequences according to their operation habits, so as to simplify the procedure for service operation, shorten the time interval for service operation, and realize the customization for service operation.

Abstract: A system, apparatus and method for identifying the capacity of a particular switch through which a plurality of telephone calls will be broadcast has a processor in operative communication with a communication network and an NPANXX database, and is configured to retrieve a telephone number from a call list from a call list database, then to retrieve from the NPANXX database a CLLI identification associated with the retrieved telephone number. The processor is configured to retrieve a maximum call capacity for a switch associated with the retrieved CLLI identification from a CLLI limit database. The processor is configured to store a number of current calls being made through the switch associated with the retrieved CLLI identification and to make a next telephone call when the number of current calls is less than or equal to the maximum call capacity.

Abstract: A messaging and alerting service is described. An implementation includes enrolling a customer in the messaging and alert service, storing a list of businesses selected by the customer, storing a customer contact hierarchy list, and contacting the customer according to the contact hierarchy list. The messaging and alerting service enables real-time, interactive alerts to be delivered to customers in the customer's preferred media. In addition, customers may respond to the alerts to provide important directions to a business.

Abstract: A device receives an audio voice mail message, converts the audio voice mail message to a text voice mail message, analyzes the text voice mail message for voice mail information, and provides the voice mail information associated with the audio voice mail message to enable review of the voice mail information.

Abstract: An apparatus for bypassing outgoing voice mail greetings automatically in a broadcast messaging system has a processor in operative communication with an NPANXX database, an NPAC database, an OCN database and a voice mail short code database. The processor is configured to retrieve a telephone number to be called and to identify for the telephone number an OCN from the NPANXX database, identify a current carrier from the OCN database, and to identify a voice mail short code from the voice mail short code database. The processor then associates the current correct voice mail short code with the telephone number to be called.

Abstract: A remote conversation management device to manage conversations on a first communication device. The method includes maintaining a gateway node having a first interface to enable the gateway node to receive conversation control information from the remote conversation management device and a second interface to couple the gateway node to a communication network, where the communication network is configured to support a conversation between a first communication device and one or more other communication devices over the communication network. The method further includes storing in a message buffer the media of the conversation as the media is received through the second interface from the communication network and receiving conversation control information from the remote conversation management device through the first interface.

Abstract: A method is provided for discarding an audio message if the audio message meets a predefined discarding condition, which may factor in at least the audio message's total length, presence of spoken word(s) in the audio message, presence of tone(s) in the audio message and the presence of click(s) in the audio message. An audio message may be discarded if no spoken words are detected in it and the audio message's total length is shorter than a predefined minimal message length, or it contains a tone and the audio message's total length minus the tone's length is shorter than the predefined minimal message length, or it contains a click sound and the audio message's total length minus the click's length is shorter than the predefined minimal message length. An audio message may be first stored in a memory buffer and then moved to a legitimate messages pool memory or to a spurious messages pool memory.

Abstract: Methods, systems, computer program products, and methods of doing business by selectably mixing one or more sound files with a telephone caller's voice message, either as background for that message or embedded within the message. Or, the mixing may occur within a telephone conversation between parties. The disclosed techniques enable alleviating some of the problems that result from distance communication (as contrasted to face-to-face communication). In particular, context information (such as emotional context) can be provided through appropriate use of background sound and/or embedded audio files. The disclosed techniques may also make communication through voice mail exchange more enjoyable and/or increase its productivity.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for retrieving voicemail messages transmitted in packet networks such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and Service over Internet Protocol (SoIP) networks are disclosed. In one embodiment, the customer subscribes to a voicemail service and enables a customer premise equipment to access the endpoint device used to receive email containing the audio files from the voicemail service. The customer equipment accesses the emails, retrieves the attached audio files for the voice messages and transfers the messages to a recording device with capability to play all the messages at the same time, e.g., in a continuous or consecutive manner as in an answering machine with a single user input.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method and apparatus for processing voice calls. One exemplary embodiment of the present invention is a call recording method for allowing a subscriber to selectively record a call made to the subscriber from callers. The method includes receiving a call at an enhanced service platform from a caller using a telephone number associated with the subscriber. Included is accessing a database associated with the subscriber to determine recording preference and call destination preference. Also included is routing the call based on the call destination preference wherein the enhanced service platform records call voice content in the subscriber data storage area.

Abstract: System and method for communicating information from an information provider to a recipient are provided. One illustrative application for the system and method is in a medical practice. The system and method may be used as an automated patient medical information message retrieval system to communicate certain medical information from the medical provider to patients. The system and method permits a provider of medical information, such as a physician's office, to generate messages containing medical information and to deliver the message to a destination mailbox. The patient is provided with a telephone number, personal voice mailbox number, and a personal voice mailbox PIN, to access and retrieve the medical message from the destination mailbox.

The method includes presenting a message that includes communication detail components and content. In response to receiving the request for voice-based communication, a capability of the first communication device for communicating via a prescribed text messaging protocol is determined. Facilitating presentation of a text messaging follow-through action at the second communication device is performed in response to determining that the first communication device is capable of communicating via the prescribed text messaging protocol.

Abstract: Methods, graphical user interfaces and devices for creation and management of voicemail greetings are disclosed. A user of a mobile communication device can create and manage multiple voicemail greetings. In one aspect, a user of a mobile communication device can create customized voicemails. The customized voicemails can be assigned to specific contacts (or groups of contacts) known to the mobile communication device. The customized voicemail greetings can also have controlled expiration dates. In another aspect, customized voicemails can be assigned to incoming calls in real-time.

Abstract: A method, system and computer program product for assigning one or more conditions to a telephonic communication system to enable recording, replaying, and pausing of a telephone conversation. Recording of a telephone conversation may be manually or dynamically initiated during the telephone conversation. Dynamic replay of a telephone conversation is automatically initiated when a conversation experiences insufficient call quality, an interruption to the telephone service is detected, the user is distracted, a displacement of the user's phone is detected, or the user toggles between listening modes. A pause mode is automatically entered into during the telephone conversation when a section of the telephone conversation is replayed. An automated pause alert may be played during repeat of the telephone conversation to inform one or more parties that the user is temporarily unavailable. Real-time access to the telephone conversation is resumed when the replaying of the recorded telephone conversation has ended.

Abstract: A structured voice interaction system includes logic to communicate one or more voice prompts to a caller via a voice channel, and to communicate navigation information for the structured voice interaction system to the caller via a data channel. Voice prompts communicated to the caller via the voice channel connection are coordinated with the navigation information communicated via the data channel connection. Information not referenced by the voice channel prompts, but related to or associated with actions or options referenced by the voice channel prompts, is accessed, identified, and provided over the data channel connection.

Abstract: A hosted system receives a request for the delivery of a voice message from a collective such as a school district. The hosted system determines whether the message should be sent over a telephone line at the hosted system or the school district. Instructions are sent to a delivery mechanism at the determined location indicating how to prepare the message and the number to be called. In one embodiment, the instructions are in XML script form to reduce the bandwidth required. Having the hosted system determine the allocation of messages allows for both the efficient use and lower calling cost of any available capacity on telephone lines at a school district or other collective organization, as well as the larger capacity access to telephone lines of a hosted service for quick delivery of numerous or urgent messages.

Abstract: In one embodiment, techniques allow a callee to listen to a caller leaving a voicemail message on a voicemail system. An applications oriented network (AON) device is configured to detect a connection to a voicemail system when a caller calls a callee. A notification message is then sent to the callee that indicates a voicemail message is being left. The callee is presented options in which the callee can decide to listen to the voicemail message in real time as it is being left by the caller. Also, the callee may answer the call from the caller as the voicemail message is being left. The applications oriented network device receives a response indicating whether the callee wants to listen to the voicemail message or not. If the callee wants to listen to the voicemail message, the applications oriented network device sends a copy of the voicemail message being left by the caller as it is being received from the caller.

Abstract: Methods and systems for enabling a subscriber to interrupt a review of messages in a voice mail system (VMS), to make a call or take some other action, and to return to the same position as occupied at the time of interruption in the review of messages in the VMS. In response to an indication from the subscriber's communication to leave the review, an identifier is created to mark the position of the subscriber's communication in the review. The identifier is stored in the VMS. The VMS transmits a release message with respect to the subscriber's communication, the message including a copy of the identifier. The message may be a GR-1120 message including a remote operations (RO) parameter with the copy of the identifier. In response to the release message, a service control point (SCP) stores the copy of the identifier and causes whatever action is indicated in the message to be taken with respect to the subscriber's communication.

Abstract: The present invention provides an option to record messages that can be geared to specific audiences, using PIN-restricted access as needed. The present invention provides a method and apparatus way for subscribers to record a number (more than one) of personalized messages or greetings geared towards specific callers or audiences in a plurality of bulletin boards associated with a single telephone number. The personalized greetings comprise public messages, private messages, public comments and private comments. The method and apparatus of the present invention also ensures customer privacy and increases the level of security by providing an option to PIN-protect the content and access to the content for each of the public and private recorded messages and comments.

At least one embodiment of such a method includes facilitating establishment of a communication between a user on a communications device and an interface server, the interface server being configured to provide data related to an information tree to the user, the information tree being configured with a plurality of options. Some embodiments include facilitating navigation of a user through the information tree and receiving a first version of a marker from the user, the marker being configured to mark at least one position in the information tree. Still some embodiments include associating the received first version of the marker with a position in the information tree.

Abstract: Methods and computer-readable media provide presenting a customized message to an incoming calling party and for allowing the calling party to save or forward the customized message. A called party desiring to leave a customized message for certain incoming calling parties submits a customized message to an intelligent network component of her telecommunications service provider along with identifiers for specified incoming callers who are to receive the customized message upon calling the called party. After the customized message is prepared, incoming callers who have been associated with the customized message are presented with the customized message before being connected to the called party. After an incoming caller receives the customized message, the calling party may store or send the customized message for later retrieval. If the incoming call is not from a telephone directory number associated with the customized message, the incoming call is processed according to normal call processing methods.

Abstract: A method for processing a telephone number embedded in a voicemail received by a user of the handheld device comprising a processor and a memory is provided. The method includes playing back the voicemail. The method further includes in response to receiving a first marker set by the user to indicate a start of a telephone number, initiating storage of an audio sample corresponding to the telephone number in the memory. The method further includes terminating storage of the audio sample corresponding to the telephone number in the memory either automatically or in response to receiving a second marker set by the user to indicate an end of the telephone number. The method further includes using the processor, processing the stored audio sample to extract digits corresponding to the telephone number and communicating the extracted digits to an application executing on the processor.

Abstract: A system and method for communicating a message. Various aspects of the present invention may comprise determining whether a communication link between a sender's communication device and a recipient's communication device is presently available. If it is determined that a communication link between the sender's communication device and the recipient's communication device is not presently available, then the sender may be provided with an option to record a message on the sender's communication device for later automatic delivery to the recipient's communication device. A message from the sender may then be recorded on the sender's communication device for later automatic delivery to the recipient's communication device, and the recorded message may be automatically delivered to the recipient's communication device.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses for caller identification messaging are disclosed. According to one embodiment, a calling party uses a Caller ID Messaging Device that supplants the incoming calling line identification (ICLID) signal with a Caller ID Messaging Signal and transmits the Caller ID Messaging Signal to a destination communications address. An alternate embodiment provides that the calling party may use a conventional telephone to access a communications network, activate Caller ID Messaging Services, compose or retrieve a stored Caller ID Message of the Caller ID Messaging Signal, and transmit the Caller ID Messaging Signal to the destination communications address. The Caller ID Message and Caller ID Messaging Signal may include text, video, voice, and/or digital data.

Abstract: In one embodiment, techniques for manipulating a voice message using a telephone user interface are provided. The telephone user interface receives a mark begin segment command from a telephonic device through a voice modality. The mark begin segment command indicates a beginning point for a voice message segment in the voice message. The telephone user interface then receives a mark end segment command from the telephonic device through the voice modality. The mark segment command indicates an ending point for the voice message segment in the voice message. An action command from the telephonic device is received and an action based on the action command for the voice message segment is performed. The voice message segment is a portion of the voice message determined based on the indicated beginning point of the voice message segment and the indicated ending point of the voice message segment in the voice message.

Abstract: The present invention provides system and method for delayed answering of a call to a cellular phone which can operate in either a distributed or a centralized manner. In particular, the system and method according to the present invention allows the cellular phone user upon receiving a call to play a message to the caller, such as informing the caller to “hold on” for a short time and that the user will be available shortly. The present invention provides a number of advantageous alternatives to provide a cellular phone user flexibility in answering incoming calls.

Abstract: A mobile communication terminal includes timer for detecting the time of an incoming call, a caller number registration table for storing caller numbers, answer message ID numbers and time-dependent switching codes in relation to each other, the time-dependent control codes designating callers for whom answer messages are switched depending on a time zone in which the call is made. There is thus provided a capability of selecting an answer message for a caller based on the caller number included in the incoming call signal and switching between answer messages based on the time of call incoming detected by the timer.
