Abstract: A method for providing a user of a telephone device with a capability to use Internet-based applications. The user of a telephone device sends a request to be connected to an Internet-based application to a first server, which establishes a communication path extending between the telephone device and a second server at which the application resides, via that first server. A virtual client entity is created at that first server specific to the telephone device to allow communication between the telephone device and the application and concluded upon termination of the communication session. The user's ID for that application is stored, and used to forward messages for that user when the user is not actively connected to that application. After the message has been received and stored by the first server, an indication is sent to the user that such messages have been received.

Abstract: According to various embodiments of the present invention, systems and methods for mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) telephone number provisioning and voicemail routing by a mobile virtual network enabler (MVNE) are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method includes: provisioning a telephone number (TN) and its associated mobile subscriber identification (MSID) owned by a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) on a home location register (HLR) of a third party carrier, the third party carrier is not the owner of the TN; routing a call to the provisioned TN from a calling party by utilizing the HLR, wherein a called party of the TN is at least one of providing no answer or unreachable; receiving an indication from a gateway mobile switching center (GW MSC) of the third party carrier that there is no voicemail transfer number associated with the TN; and initiating a new call to a voicemail server of the MVNO, the new call to provide voicemail associated with the TN to the calling party.

Abstract: An integrated messaging system for performing various types of messaging across different types of networks, including integrated user interfaces and administrator interfaces. Embodiments include a communication server that couples among networks of different types, and an interface module that couples to the communication server. The interface module may be hosted on a messaging server of a network. The interface module pulls various user information from the messaging server, including information relevant to at least the network that includes the messaging server. A cache couples to the communication server and to the interface module to hold information from the communication server and/or the user information pulled from messaging server. The interface module directs a message from the messaging server and/or the cache to at least one device on the networks using the user information.

Abstract: A telephone answering system (100) and method (200) that permits a user to immediately generate a customized playback message in response to an incoming call without having to actually answer the call. The system (100) can include a ring detector (104), a command interface (114), a controller (110) and a telephone network interface (102). In response to an incoming call, the ring detector (104) alerts the called party and causes the controller (110) to activate the command interface (114). The command interface (114) is activated for a predetermined time while the call is still ringing. While activated, the called party can select or enter a playback message. The playback message can be a pre-recorded audio message stored within the device, or a voice message spoken by the called party during the activation period. After the playback message is selected by the called party, the telephone system (100) answers the incoming call and automatically plays the customized message to the calling party.

Abstract: A system allows an agent to manage an interaction between the agent and a contact using a computer system. The agent may use the computer system to selectively interleave pre-recorded script segments that are part of a planned informational dialog with pre-recorded script interjections such that the selective playing of scripts or script segments mimics conversion between actual persons.

Abstract: An interactive voice response (IVR) system which assists in identifying repeat callers, understanding whether they are calling for the same reason as one of their previous calls, and properly disposing of the call. If the repeat caller is calling for the same reason, information from the previous call (or the previous calls) is retrieved and an action based on a defined business logic for repeat callers may then be executed for the current call.

Abstract: A system and method for selectively answering incoming telephone calls based on a caller ID is disclosed. Selected calls may be handled with a number of call handling functions including an auto-answer function, a custom message function, and a custom call forwarding.

Abstract: A system and method for canceling a message sent to a recipient prior to retrieval by the recipient. A telephone call is received by a network from a calling party who desires to cancel a message left for a recipient through an earlier call from the calling party to the recipient after termination of the earlier call. By mapping the calling party's automatic number identifier (ANI) with at least one call record, a voice mailbox of the recipient may be accessed to determine whether the message has been retrieved by the recipient. If the message is still pending, the calling party is provided with the option to cancel the message. Alternatively, the calling party provides the telephone number from where the earlier call originated to a network server, which looks up the ANI of the originating number and then maps the ANI of that number with the at least one call record to enable the cancellation procedure.

Abstract: A system and method that enables faster, more reliable setup of voicemail message playback for a mobile device is provided. A mobile device receives an message that alerts the user that a voicemail message has been received. When a user dials into the voicemail system to retrieve the message, a message is sent from the mobile device to the voicemail system to tell the voicemail system to queue-up the message for playback. The message proceeds from the mobile device through a relay to a virtual Message Service Center (MSC) gateway over a high-speed GPRS connection. The virtual MSC gateway sends the message to the voicemail system over a permanent or substantially permanent connection. Communications are acknowledged to increase reliability. The voicemail system is ready to play the message when the voice call is received.

Abstract: A user computer, for example a personal computer (PC), includes a recorder configured for generating an audio file having an identifier enabling a unified messaging system to identify the audio file as a voice message, and an e-mail client configured for sending the audio file to a prescribed destination corresponding to a unified messaging subscriber voice mail inbox, enabling the unified messaging subscriber to use the unified messaging system for retrieval of the audio file as a stored voice message.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method and device for analyzing and responding to voice mail messages. A voice mail message may contain one or more addresses or phone numbers associated with the calling party. The portion of the voice mail message containing an address may be recognized and processed with speech recognition algorithms to determine one or more spoken addresses associated with the voice mail message. The recognized spoken addresses may be displayed by a communications device and the portion of the voice mail message recognized as containing the spoken addresses may be replayed in order for a user to confirm the recognized address. Communications to an address associated with the voice mail message may be enabled while the portion of the voice mail message is replayed.

Abstract: Method, system, and computer program product for building a voice prompt menu for a collection of portlets by acquiring a list of portlets, building a voice menu comprising voice menu items to activate each of the portlets, acquiring a portlet profile containing customization information, and adapting the voice menu using the customization information in the portlet profile. The web portlet may define custom characteristics for consideration by the voice aggregator, for instance, in the positions for its menu items in the hierarchy of the voice portal menu.

Abstract: In a messaging system, a messaging server transmits signals over the telephone network to be received by equipment at, e.g., the customer premises. The receiving equipment converts the signals into meaningful information (e.g., written or audible words, audible tones, and/or lights), and provides that information (e.g., by audible announcement and/or visual display) to the user. The signals can be of a variety of types. For example, the signal can be the Incoming Caller Line Identification (ICLID) signal associated with an incoming telephone call. Alternatively, the ICLID signal can be can be sent with the set-up of a non-associated telephone call, and can correspond to a message code, such as to provide the recipient with notification information such as emergency notification messages. Such notification information can be substantially simultaneously transmitted to a number of sets of receiving equipment (e.g., all homes in a given region).

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided fox defending against telephone-based robotic attacks. An interactive voice response method is provided for presenting a menu having one or more menu options to a caller associated with a call. The method comprises the steps of obtaining a script to present to the caller, the script including the one or more menu options; combining at least one of the one or more menu options with a background audio signal, wherein the background audio signal is selected based on a context of the call; and presenting the combination of the at least one of the one or more menu options and the background audio signal to the caller. The context of the call includes comprises one or more of an identity of a called party associated with the call and a time period of the call. The background audio signal can optionally be obtained from a library of background signals.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for defending against telephone-based robotic attacks An interactive voice response method is provided for presenting a menu having one or more menu options to a caller. The method comprises the steps of obtaining a script to present to the caller, the script including the one or more menu options; permuting one or more characteristics of at least one of the one or more menu options; and presenting the permuted menu to the caller. The permutation may comprise, for example, adding one or more additional menu options to the menu; varying a selection number associated with the at least one menu option; varying an order of at least a plurality of the menu options; or varying a wording or pronunciation of one or more menu options.

Abstract: A method for a predictive interactive voice recognition system includes receiving a voice call, associating said voice call with a behavioral pattern, and invoking a service context responsive to said behavioral pattern. The system provides advantages of improved voice recognition and more efficient use of the voice user interface to obtain services.

Abstract: A computer-based virtual assistant includes a virtual assistant application running on a computer capable of receiving human voice communications from a user of a remote user interface and transmitting a vocalization to the remote user interface, the virtual assistant application enabling the user to access email and voicemail messages of the user, the virtual assistant application selecting a responsive action to a verbal query or instruction received from the remote user interface and transmitting a vocalization characterizing the selected responsive action to the remote user interface, and the virtual assistant waiting a predetermined period of time, and if no canceling indication is received from the remote user interface, proceeding to perform the selected responsive action, and if a canceling indication is received from the remote user interface halting the selected responsive action and transmitting a new vocalization to the remote user interface. Abstract: An answering machine tool is described which, when a message is received, accesses caller identification data associated with the message and from this data identifies an image for the message. Data is then output to cause an icon comprising this image to be displayed. This icon, in turn, may be manipulated and interacted with by a user, by touching the icon on a touch sensitive screen or by other means, such as mouse pointer or stylus. This causes the message to be replayed, moved, deleted or be subject to any other course of action that the visual rendering of the message affords the user.

Abstract: A system and method for handling telephone call interruptions from a common telephone number or common user that provides the user with intelligent options to efficiently manage the interruption. The system is particularly efficient in handling interruptions that involve voicemail messages. The system identifies matches of outgoing calls to and incoming calls from common numbers and/or users and presents various options to the user to handle the call. These options include allowing the user to cancel or delete voicemail messages that are in progress while simultaneously accepting the incoming call.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and products are disclosed for providing voicemail notifications. A first notification is received that indicates a caller has recorded a voicemail. In response to the first notification, the caller's communication log is updated to indicate that the voicemail was recorded. A second notification is received that indicates the recipient retrieved the voicemail. In response to the second notification, the caller's communication log is updated to indicate that the voicemail has been played. When the recipient listens to the voicemail, the communication log thus informs the caller.

Abstract: A method for use of voice call restriction data to restrict mailbox-to-mailbox message transfers. When a subscriber logs into his or her voice mail box and seeks to send a voice mail message to another subscriber's voice mail box, reference will be made to voice call restriction data that indicates whether voice calls are allowed between the subscriber and the other subscriber. If the voice call restriction data indicates that voice calls are allowed between the subscribers, then the voice mail system will allow the requested mailbox-to-mailbox message transfer. On the other hand, if the voice call restriction data indicates that voice calls are not allowed between the subscribers, then the voice mail system will not allow the mailbox-to-mailbox message transfer.

Abstract: A method and system for allowing a calling party to save information obtained from an information retrieval system. The caller may select options to save the information to a memory location, e.g., the caller's own network-based voice mail system or a temporary voice mailbox provided for the caller by the information provider, from which the caller can subsequently retrieve and review the information. The information may be saved to an Internet-based website from which the caller may subsequently retrieve the information. The information may be forwarded to a separate telephone directory number for receipt by a third person or for storing on a remote voice mail system. Additionally, the information may be electronically mailed to the caller's electronic mail address for subsequent retrieval. Discussions with a live attendant may be recorded and stored, as audio files or as converted to text, for access by or delivery to the caller.

Abstract: A system for utilization in connection with an automated telephone attendant comprises a recognizer component that determines information associated with a caller, such as identity of the caller, that is connected with the automated telephone attendant. An organization component dynamically determines which menu options to provide to the caller and an order of the menu options based at least in part upon the determined information associated with caller.

Abstract: A technique includes receiving a first communication from a first member of a group of members and recording a voice message during the communication from the first member. Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses for caller identification messaging are disclosed. According to one embodiment, a calling party uses a Caller ID Messaging Device that supplants the incoming calling line identification (ICLID) signal with a Caller ID Messaging Signal and transmits the Caller ID Messaging Signal to a destination communications address. An alternate embodiment provides that the calling party may use a conventional telephone to access a communications network, activate Caller ID Messaging Services, compose or retrieve a stored Caller ID Message of the Caller ID Messaging Signal, and transmit the Caller ID Messaging Signal to the destination communications address. The Caller ID Message and Caller ID Messaging Signal may include text, video, voice, and/or digital data.

Abstract: Methods, systems, computer program products, and methods of doing business by selectably mixing one or more sound files with a telephone caller's voice message, either as background for that message or embedded within the message. Or, the mixing may occur within a telephone conversation between parties. The disclosed techniques enable alleviating some of the problems that result from distance communication (as contrasted to face-to-face communication). In particular, context information (such as emotional context) can be provided through appropriate use of background sound and/or embedded audio files. The disclosed techniques may also make communication through voice mail exchange more enjoyable and/or increase its productivity.

An audio message is generated based on the list, and communicated to the calling party. A dialed input indicating a selected party from the list is received from the calling party. Abstract: A system and method for generating and providing a voice-site on a linked network of voice-sites over a network. A voice call is received from a subscriber at the first voice site, the first voice site hosted on a server and the subscriber is associated with the first voice site. The subscriber is configured to create and personalize a second voice site starting from the first voice site by specifying personal preferences of the subscriber and available components on the server, and the second voice site created by the subscriber comprises a list of services offered by the subscriber, and then host the second voice site on the server.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for emergency message delivery from an emergency center by receiving an incoming call from the emergency center for a first telecommunication terminal that is engaged in a telecommunication call with a second telecommunication terminal; identifying the emergency center; receiving an emergency message from the emergency center; recording an audio portion of the emergency message; alerting a user of the first telecommunication terminal of the recorded audio portion of the emergency message during the telecommunication call; detecting a signal from the first telecommunication terminal indicating that the user wants to hear the recorded audio portion of the emergency message; and transmitting the recorded audio portion of the emergency message to the first telecommunication terminal during the telecommunication call upon detection of the signal.

Abstract: A disclosed phonecasting system and method involves receiving a telephone call from a caller via a telephone number, and providing an audio signal in response. An audio file including audio content corresponding to the telephone number is played, thereby producing the audio signal. A message is selectively sent to the caller while the audio signal is being provided to the caller. The audio file may include, for example, a podcast publicly available via the Internet. The audio file may also include an audio advertisement or public service message. The message may be, for example, a text message or an electronic mail (email) message. Alternatively, or in addition, the message may be or include one or more images (e.g., pictures, drawings, diagrams, and the like).

Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method provide voicemail service using a packet data messaging service such as multimedia message service (MMS). Upon detecting that the presence status of a destination device is “unavailable”, the voicemail message is recorded at an origination mobile station and transmitted in a packet data message through a packet data messaging service center such as a multimedia messaging service center (MMS-C). If the destination device is a destination mobile station subscribing to the packet data messaging service, the packet data message is deposited in the destination mobile station.

Abstract: A handset-originated ringback replacement system for modifying or replacing certain communications network tones is disclosed. Communications devices activate and interact with the handset-originated ringback replacement system to allow for modification of the network service.

Abstract: A method for retrieving information may include receiving a telephone call from a caller and identifying a telephone number from which the telephone call was made. The method may also include retrieving information from a database based on the identified telephone number. The method may further include providing an audible message to the caller to verify whether the retrieved information is correct.

Abstract: A communication device (100) for accessing voicemail commands is disclosed. The device includes a user interface (130, 150) for receiving an input and detecting whether the input is associated with dialing a voicemail number and a display (150) for displaying a voicemail virtual touch pad in response to detecting that the input is associated with dialing a voicemail number, wherein the voicemail virtual touch pad comprises of a plurality of keys and wherein each key from the plurality of keys is associated with a corresponding voicemail command.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for utilizing calling party personal calendaring and scheduling information to facilitate enhanced directory assistance information. After obtaining a directory number for a called party from a subscriber's address book or from a directory assistance service, a voice services node queries a personal scheduling calendar of the called party to determine whether the called party is currently located at a location other than the location accessible by the obtained directory number. If so, the voice services node may obtain an alternate directory number for the current location of the called party, and the voice services node may automatically place a call to the called party via the alternate directory number or provide the alternate directory number to the subscriber.

Abstract: To assist with the usability of voice messaging systems, a technique is provided that provides audible information to a user about the status of one or more messages in the system. An audible message is played to the user indicating whether they have forwarded, replied, saved, or otherwise addressed a voice message. The audible indication can be triggered by the message recipient trying to reply, forward or otherwise access a message in the voice messaging system. This can be especially useful when the voice messaging system is accessed from a phone, such as an IP telephone or SIP phone. The technique at least allows users to know which voice messages they have addressed as well as to provide a summary of one or more messages in the voice messaging system such as 3 unread, 2 replied, 1 forwarded, and a total of 12 messages with message duration of 11 minutes.

Abstract: A mobile communication terminal includes timer for detecting the time of an incoming call, a caller number registration table for storing caller numbers, answer message ID numbers and time-dependent switching codes in relation to each other, the time-dependent control codes designating callers for whom answer messages are switched depending on a time zone in which the call is made. There is thus provided a capability of selecting an answer message for a caller based on the caller number included in the incoming call signal and switching between answer messages based on the time of call incoming detected by the timer.

Abstract: A mobile communication terminal includes timer for detecting the time of an incoming call, a caller number registration table for storing caller numbers, answer message ID numbers and time-dependent switching codes in relation to each other, the time-dependent control codes designating callers for whom answer messages are switched depending on a time zone in which the call is made. There is thus provided a capability of selecting an answer message for a caller based on the caller number included in the incoming call signal and switching between answer messages based on the time of call incoming detected by the timer.
