Abstract: A tamper-evident reclosable package having a header that is tack sealed to the zipper. A light tack, in the form of a light weld, is made at the end of the package header. The header is the top portion of the package and is designed to shroud the zipper. The header serves as a tamper-evident feature, and also serves to maintain cleanliness and aesthetics of the package. The header must be tom before a person can gain access to the contents of the package. Typically, means for preferential tearing are provided for easy removal of the header. The tack seal contributes to the maintenance of the cleanliness and aesthetics of the package, while still allowing easy removal of the header. The tack is light (i.e., low bond strength or pull-off force) in order to not make it significantly more difficult to open the package.

Abstract: A storage bag having a recloseable mouth, which is biased into an open configuration, is disclosed. The bag, typically manufactured from thermoplastic material such as low-density polyethylene, includes first and second adjacent layers joined or folded along bottom and side edges. The top edges are not folded or permanently joined, but are provided with closure members such as mating male and female zipper strips. The bag is further provided with structure to bias the top edges apart from one another thus biasing the mouth of the bag into an open configuration. The closure members are sufficiently strong to overcome the force of the biasing structure and thereby hold the bag closed when the closure members are engaged. However, upon disengagement of the closure members the biasing structure forces the bag top edges apart to thereby place the bag into an open mouth configuration.

Abstract: A reclosable package having a slider-operated zipper wherein the contents of the package are accessed through the front wall of the package, not through the top of the package. The reclosable package comprises: a bag body comprising front and rear walls of bag making material; a flexible zipper joined to the front wall and not joined to the rear wall; and a slider mounted to the zipper, the slider being movable in a first direction along the zipper for opening the zipper and movable in a second direction along the zipper for closing the zipper. Alternatively, the flexible zipper is joined to the front wall along first and second zones of joinder disposed at different heights on the front wall, and is joined to the rear wall only in zones of joinder where the zipper is joined to both of the front and rear walls.

Abstract: A reclosable package comprising a hooded zipper with a pair of off-center lines of perforations that are hermetically sealed by a layer of material. The lines of perforations facilitate tearing off the hood to gain access to the zipper. One method of manufacture involves joining the hooded zipper to respective web portions formed by folding a web and then slitting the folded web in two. Another method of manufacture involves joining the hooded zipper to respective web portions formed by slitting a web in two and then orienting the two web portions into mutually confronting positions. The package may be constructed to have a wicket flap.

Abstract: A polystyrene bag has a polyethylene zipper and the bag is constructed by choosing a polystyrene material having additives and a blended polyethylene material that is sufficiently compatible with the polystyrene material so that the zipper is weldable to the bag.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a high burst slider zipper which allows for bottom filling of reclosable packages, such as large bags, and further provides increased resistance to damage from the dropping or shock loading of the filled package. This is achieved by providing a peel seal or other frangible or separable connection between the zipper profiles, and by sealing a portion of one of the flanges to itself by a hard seal above the peel seal. This causes the external forces on a bag from bottom filling or shock loading to be directed toward the hard seal and further directed so as to cause a shear force against the peel seal, thereby increasing the resistance of the package to external forces.

Abstract: A package comprising: a gusseted tube of film sealed at a top and a bottom thereof by top and bottom cross seals respectively, the bottom seal extending the full width of the package and the top seal extending along a major portion of the package width. The gusseted tube comprises a side gusset extending from the top to the bottom of the tube, wherein the side gusset and the top seal do not overlap. The package further comprises a flexible zipper comprising a first zipper strip joined to a portion of and extending across the width of the side gusset, and a second zipper strip joined to portions of the tube. After the zipper is opened, an upper portion of the side gusset to which the zipper is attached can be inverted to form a pour spout.

Abstract: A flexible reclosable container including profiles which are locked and unlocked by a slider. One embodiment of the slider has a pair of feet which extend from one end of the slider to the other end and which resist pulling of the slider off of the profiles. Another embodiment of the slider has three spaced pairs of feet which resist removal of the slider from the profiles. The slider in one embodiment has an enlarged central portion which facilitates grasping the slider and is easy to manufacture by die casting.

Abstract: A fastener strip, such as would be used in a reclosable container, comprises a sealing member having a plurality of sealing portions configured to engage complementary sealing portions of a complementary fastener strip. At least one sealing portion comprises one or more finger members extending therefrom. The at least one finger member, by engaging a complementary sealing portion of a complementary fastener strip, provides an additional degree of sealing, particularly when the fastener strips are in a partially engaged condition. A slider comprises top and side walls and inwardly facing flanges, preferably at lower ends of the side walls. The inwardly facing flanges define a gap having dimensions such that the sealing members of the opposing fastener strips, and particularly the sealing portion having the at least one finger member and its complementary sealing portion, are urged together to provide an additional degree of sealing, yet not completely interlocking, engagement.

Abstract: A shrouded flexible package is provided with an improved continuous laser score line. The score line has end portions adjacent the side seals of the package, which are located above fastener tracks which are enclosed by a shroud portion of the package. The score line contains downwardly and inwardly converging segments joined to a medial score line segment extending along side and generally below the fastener tracks. The score line is preferably formed with a laser energy source.

Abstract: Reclosable packages include an impressed pattern which is impinged against by the slider. This creates an aesthetically pleasing appearance. This further creates an aesthetically pleasing sound and corresponding tactile sensation when the slider is moved. This sound can be enhanced by providing internal protuberances to the slider. When a string zipper or similar zipper is used, the web to zipper seal line can include the impressed pattern. However, when a flanged zipper is used, the impressed pattern and the web to flange seal lines are formed in different locations.

Abstract: The present invention is a bag resealing system capable of being applied to an existing bag structure in order to form a releasable closure thereon. The system includes a support strip of suitable material having an adhesive disposed on one side thereof in order to attach the system to the exterior of a bag and an aperture formed in the support strip. The system also includes a closure mechanism disposed on the support strip opposite the adhesive in an airtight manner completely around the aperture and including a pair of releasably engageable members disposed opposite the adhesive. The attachment of the closure mechanism on the support strip provides clearance between the mechanism and the support strip to enable the mechanism to open and define an opening therein in alignment with the aperture, which enables the mechanism to be selectively opened and closed to expose the aperture in the support strip.

The slider comprises a transverse support member, first and second legs, first and second separating fingers, and first and second wings. The first and second separating fingers extend from an interior surface of the support member. The first separating finger is adapted to open the first and second profiles. The first and second wings have respective first and second openings for receiving the respective first and second legs. The first and second wings are hingedly attached to the support member, and latches on each wing engage a respective one of the legs.

Abstract: A locking bag includes an envelope with a single opening defined between a pair of side wall edges. A pair of plastic zipper portions are disposed on opposite sides of the single pair of side wall edges. A zipper closure clip is slidably attached to the single pair of side wall edges at one corner of the opening of the bag. The zipper closure clip is adapted to clamp the two portions of the plastic zipper together when the zipper closure clip is slid along the opening of the bag. The two plastic zipper portions include suitable means to make the closing of the opening permanent. In one embodiment, the zipper closure is removable from the bag after the bag is permanently closed.

Abstract: A zipper profile arrangement for use in opening and closing a package. The zipper profile arrangement including a reclosable zipper profile having first and second zipper ends. End stops are located that the first and second zipper ends of the reclosable zipper profile. The end stops prevent a slider of the zipper profile arrangement from separating from the reclosable zipper profile.

Abstract: The reclosable bag has a gusset side structure so that the bag can be self-supporting on its bottom surface. The reclosable structure can be an internal structure or an external structure. As an external structure the front and rear walls extend above the reclosable seal and are bonded together above the reclosable seal. This extended wall structure is removed to remove these tamper evident seal. If within the bag the tamper evident seal is composed of a loop of film extending downward from each side of the reclosable seal to seal the contents of the bag. This loop must be broken to open the bag. The preferred reclosable seal is a zipper with bonded stays or each end to maintain the zipper on the bag. The bag has diagonal seals at the lower corners for forming a flat bottom to the bag and at the upper corners to provide vents for pressure equalization. The bags are made by a process where all processing is on line except for forming the zipper which is constructed off-line.

Abstract: Methods are provided for making slider-operated fasteners for use in reclosable plastic bags using at least a double index and dual unit operations. The methods involve forming two preseals, forming two notches within the preseals, applying two sliders into the previously formed notches, and applying two end stops proximate the previously applied sliders by having the various stations perform their respective functions, either simultaneously or at generally the same time, on different parts of the fastener spaced approximately at a double index. Also provided are methods of producing finished bags by applying the slider-operated fastener to a flat web of plastic film and conveying the web to a vertical or a horizontal form-fill-seal machine.

Abstract: A reclosable fastener assembly (10) for use in the manufacture of a plastic bag (30). The fastener assembly (10) includes a zipper (18) with a seal feature on a web flange (24) extending from an interlocking member (26) of a profile (28) of the zipper (18). The web flange (24) is bent at a lower portion of the web flange (24) upward to the interlocking member (26). At the lower portion, an interior face (32) of the web flange (24) is sealed to an opposite interior face (33) to form a flange seal (31). The bend (35) of the lower portion includes a weakness area (34) which, in concert with the flange seal (31), acts as a barrier and a tamper-evident feature. After the flange seal (31) is initially tom open, the weakness area (34) may be torn open to access the plastic bag (30). A method for making a reclosable plastic bag (30) is also disclosed.

The gussets are closed at the upper ends or at the cutouts by one of the connecting seams.

The first and second protrusions selectively open and close the resealable closure mechanism as the slider device is moved from a first position to a second position. The first and second slide channels selectively open and close the resealable closure mechanism as the slider device is moved from a first position to a second position.

Abstract: A tamper-evident reclosable bag having a pull tab feature that facilitates opening of a header by a consumer. The pull tab feature is provided by an offset between the top and bottom webs (or front and rear walls) of the package. One web has a cutout while the other web has a portion that overlaps the cutout. The offset provides a simple means for the consumer to grasp only one of the webs of the package and then pull the webs apart or peel the offset web away from the cutout web. The peeled-away layer can be provided with a line of weakened tear resistance, allowing a section of the header to, at the same time, be torn off the package. After the tamper-evident seal provided by the header is broken, the consumer can open the zipper, gaining access to the contents of the package.

Abstract: A water-resistant zipper with interlocking profiles for a reclosable bag is disclosed. The zipper includes a first profile with upper and lower legs forming an engagement area therebetween. The upper and lower legs terminate in hooks extending into said engagement area. The lower leg further includes a downwardly extending arm. The second profile includes a male detent element which is detent engaged within the engagement area. The second profile further includes a first post which urges against the downwardly extending arm at all locations where the profiles are captured within a slider, thereby maintaining a water-resistant configuration. The second profile further includes a second post which urges against the upper leg when the first and second profiles are interlocked with each other.
