Abstract: A linear drive which has a housing with a longitudinal slot. A drive part able to be longitudinally moved in the housing is connected by the aid of a link part, running in the longitudinal slot, with a guide part, which is guided for motion on a longitudinal guide arranged outside the housing. As a longitudinal guide a rod guide is provided, which has at least one guide rod adjacent to the housing and spaced from it radially. The guide rod is exposed along its guide stroke and has the guide part encircling it. There is therefore the possibility of accurate guiding of the moving unit without being affected by any tendency of the housing to splay outwards. The costs of manufacture are low.
Abstract: A ceramic guide pin having a guide portion, wherein at least the guide portion has a surface so shaped, microscopically, that top portions of outwardly projected portions of the surface are in the shape of gently curved surfaces. The ceramic guide pin can be produced by a process which comprises the steps of preparing a shaped body of a ceramic guide pin by forming or machining in dimensions calculated from the desired finished dimensions and a firing shrinkage allowance factor, sintering said shaped body, and subjecting the sintered body to barrel polishing.
Abstract: Concrete septic tanks have inflow and outflow orifices and near the outflow orifice have screening or baffles which are stapled or bolted to the concrete inner wall so as to force the outflowing liquids to pass a predetermined flow path with the hope to avoid solids passing out of the tank and into a draining tile bed. A novel baffle structure and device for attaching the baffles is disclosed using a linear race with forward and rearward recesses and flexible marginal flap that seals the race onto a core surface of a mold use to fabricate the tank. After the concrete is poured into the mold and partially cured the core is then removed, and the track remains embedded in the concrete and acts as a holding, sealing and anchoring for a baffle, preferably made of a non-corrosive material such as a plastic. The baffle is slipped into the race of the track and seepage across the baffle interface with the tank walls is avoided and the predetermined flow path for the outflowing fluids is ensured.
Abstract: A head carriage mechanism of a magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus including a single guide rod fixed on a frame of the apparatus, a head carriage having a first side in which the guide rod is passed through, a rack of teeth provided on the head carriage at a second side opposing the first side side, a mounting member fixed on the frame, a stepping motor provided with a pinion gear and mounted on the mounting member such that the pinion gear is meshed with the rack teeth, a leaf spring configured to have a U-shaped cross section and mounted on the mounting member such that the leaf spring makes a slide engagement with a part of the head carriage so that the rack teeth and the pinion gear are pressed to each other, and a wear resistant slide member provided at the part of the head carriage in which the leaf spring makes the slide engagement with the head carriage.
Abstract: A plain bearing slide system has a carriage mounted on a slide by use of bearing pads. Each bearing pad is coated with a layer of polymeric material having a convex surface, and is arranged to ride on a counterface. The combined thickness of the layer and a layer providing the counterface is such that the difference between the static and dynamic coefficients of friction is substantially less than the difference associated with the material when used in bulk bearings. A slide system using PTFE, and with a combined thickness of the layers of 2 to 3 micrometers, operated as a measuring instrument under ambient conditions such that the PTFE is substantially non-eroding, has proved capable of providing measurements to an accuracy of 0.05 nanometers.

Abstract: The assembly of a support and a slide carried by the support for translational movement relative thereto in which the support defines a slide opening having opposed end edges and opposed side edges, the side edges diverging from each other proceeding from one of said end edges toward the other of said end edges and defining guide means also so diverging, the slide having a pair of side edge formations complementing the guide formations and being of a length less than the distance between the end edges of the slide opening so that upon movement away from the one end edge of the slide opening, a sliding clearance develops between the edge formations of the slide and the guide formations in the opening.
Abstract: Guide ring apparatus includes a shaft configured for insertion into a bore and annular bearing means disposed on the shaft for engaging the interior surface of the bore along with an annular spring having a preselected force-deflection characteristics in operative relationship with the bearing for causing the annular bearing means as well as the shaft to float within the bore. This particular bearing and spring arrangement accommodates for variations in the bore and shaft due to manufacturing tolerances, wear and other eccentricities of the shaft and bore.
Abstract: A guide arrangement in linear power units having a housing (1) and a slide (2) linearly movable relative to the housing, and is designed to relieve the slide of transverse forces, lateral forces etc., in order to reduce wear and eliminate jamming. According to the invention, this is achieved in that at least one guide rail (6) is arranged parallel to the direction of action of the linear power unit, that the housing (1) is fixedly connected to the guide rail (6), and that the slide (2) is hingedly connected in a manner to transmit push and pull forces only, to a guide device (7) guided on the guide rail (6).
Abstract: A slide assembly for use in supporting and guiding a reciprocating push rod or the like so as to enable reciprocating movement of the push rod while undergoing translation transverse to its longitudinal direction. The slide assembly includes a tubular slide guide which receives a slide tube therethrough having a slide housing supported transversely on an end of the slide tube externally of the slide guide, the slide housing having an axial passage to receive the reciprocating rod. TEFLON bearings are interposed between the slide housing and the reciprocating rod and between the slide guide and the slide tube, and lubricating fluid felts are supported within the slide housing so as to maintain a lubricating film on the reciprocating rod. The slide assembly finds particular application in a turf aerator of the vertical reciprocating tine type wherein the tines are caused to move transverse to their longitudinal axes during reciprocation.
Abstract: A guide mechanism of a positioning device for a magnetic head moving apparatus providing both improved guiding accuracy and reduced manufacturing cost. The mechanism includes a cylindrical bearing, a guide rod passing slidably through the bearing, a movable base, and grip pieces for holding the cylindrical bearing. Preferably, the cylindrical bearing is provided with one or more cylindrical recesses on its inner periphery to space portions of the bearing from the guide rod.
Abstract: A patient's table for X-ray examinations and radiotherapy includes a couch plate which is guided with longitudinal sliding mobility on a column. In order to obtain precise guidance and low sag of the couch plate in all positions, an intermediate support is included which is arranged at the side on a bar beneath the couch plate. A continuous belt revolving in the intermediate support establishes a mechanical and electrical connection between the guide pedestal and the couch plate and always entrains the intermediate support beneath the couch plate and serves as a prolonged base for the absorption of the changing moments between the couch plate and the guide pedestal.
Abstract: A clamp attachment for use on a lift truck having a body adapted to be mounted on a lift truck which includes a plurality of elongate spaced parallel guides. Each guide supports a longitudinally movable slide connected to a load clamp and actuated by piston and cylinder assembly. The slides are reduced in weight by being tubular members and a solid heel support member is positioned in the outer end of each of the tubular members for providing strength. The heel support fills the cross-sectional area of the tubular slide. A heel plate which is connected to and supports a load clamp is bolted to the slide and heel support. The heel extends a distance into the end of the slide sufficient to reduce the stress concentration through a cross section containing a bolt to less than the stress concentration in the tubular slide alone. The solid heel support member is of a higher breaking strength than the tubular slide.
Abstract: A system for automatically cutting a pattern in a material wherein a cutting blade is rotatably mounted in a holder which is also rotatably mounted in a tube. The holder also has limited linear movement in each direction within the tube. The tube is mounted to computer controlled apparatus and is moved in the desired pattern over the material to cut the pattern in the material.
Abstract: Machine tools for cutting metal are provided having a polygon cross-sectional geometry self-centering, high torque transmitting, rotatable tool support bar that is movable along the longitudinal axis of the bar. The tool support bar is coupled to the drive mechanism for rotating the bar, at a point proximate to the exit of the bar from the machine, by a coupling having a slidably mating polygon geometry opening through which the bar passes. In an embodiment of the invention there is further provided means for releasably locking the tool support bar in a predetermined extended position.
Abstract: The assembly is used to guide a movably mounted stamper member in a hot forming machine wherein the guide surfaces located between the stamper member and the machine frame are disposed in an X-arrangement with respect to each other. The inclined angle of each of the guide surfaces is directed approximately to a common central point. Adjustable ledges or strips are fitted to the guide surfaces for setting the clearance between the stamper member and the machine frame. Stamper side carrier rails and support side carrier rails carry the guide surfaces and are directly formed as a part of the stamper member and the frame or frame stanchions. The adjusting strips used for setting the clearance and the securing means for these strips, run approximately parallel to the guide surface. Thus, the stamper member is directly supported on the surfaces of the machine frame.
