  • Patent number: 5716147
Abstract: A corrosion-resistant bearing assembly comprising inner and outer bearing races with a plurality of roller elements interposed therebetween. The inner and outer bearing races each have a bi-metallic construction which includes an outer body portion formed of a corrosion-resistant metal alloy, such as stainless steel, and a roller raceway defining insert formed of hardened, high-carbon steel. The bearing races, thereby, are substantially resistant to corrosive effects of contaminants in the outside environment, while providing hardened raceways for long-term bearing life.

  • Patent number: 5711617
Abstract: A dustcap (10) for a bearing assembly (12) includes a sidewall (50) having a first end (52) and a second end (54). An endwall (56) extends from the second end (54) of the sidewall (50) to form a cup. A lip (60) extends radially outward from the first end (52) of the sidewall (50). The lip (60) has a first angled portion (62) and a second angled portion (64) connected to form a circumferential apex (66). The bearing assembly (12) has an outer race ring (20) that cooperates with an inner race ring (22) to form a raceway (26) in which a plurality of balls (24) are disposed. The outer race ring (20) has a seal groove (40A) disposed therein which is configured to accept the apex (64) of the lip (60) of the dustcap (10) in a snap fit. By connecting the dustcap (10) to the outer race ring (20) of the bearing assembly (12), the dustcap (10) remains aligned with the bearing assembly (12) when the bearing assembly (12) becomes misaligned.

  • Patent number: 5697710
Abstract: A bearing seal suitable for sealing a bearing system (18) under extremely abrasive and damp conditions. The seal assembly (22) includes a metal casing (36) received in a housing (26) which defines a small annular gap (34) relative to a shaft (16) supported by the bearing system (18). The seal assembly (22) includes a first seal (42) and a second seal (48) spaced apart to define an annular space (60). • Patent number: 5607240
Abstract: There is provided a bearing sealing device capable of substantially completely preventing a leak of grease. A taper end portion of an axial extension of the bearing sealing device has an opposite surface and a rake face that forms a specified rake angle with the opposite surface. The opposite surface forms a narrow passage between the opposite surface and an outer peripheral surface of an inner ring. The narrow passage allows air to pass easily, but it allows grease to hardly pass therethrough. Further, the axial extension includes part of a core metal that extends axially and has its foremost end located axially inside an axial outermost end of the outer peripheral surface of the inner ring. Grease moving axially outwardly on the outer peripheral surface is moved along the rake face of the taper end portion and then guided along a cover portion of the bearing sealing device to an outer ring. The part of the core metal prevents the axial extension from being bent radially outwardly by a centrifugal force.

  • Patent number: 5480235
Abstract: A bearing sealing device is used for sealing a bearing assembly by inserting the sealing device through an insertion hole in the bearing assembly and mounting it in a fitting groove formed therein. Individual bearing sealing devices may be obtained by punching operations, and may be produced in large quantities and continuously without requiring any subsequent treatment such as removal of burrs. The bearing sealing device thus formed provides improved firm fitting to the bearing assembly. The bearing sealing device includes an elastic sealing ring and a backing ring combined with each other. The elastic sealing ring has a sealing lip around the peripheral edge thereof extending beyond the corresponding peripheral edge of the backing ring. • Patent number: 5362159
Abstract: A sealed four-row tapered roller bearing, useable for working rolls of roll stands, is provided with axial multipart inner and outer races and tapered rollers arranged between the bearing races, sealing of the seat of the outer race parts in the housing being preferably effected by O-rings which are arranged in annular grooves of the outer race parts. The bearing chamber is sealed axially outward by sealing rings which are fastened in annular grooves in the bore of the outer race parts and rest with sealing lips on surfaces of the inner race, the separating line between the front faces of the inner races being sealed off by a sealing ring which rests on the inner races.

  • Patent number: 5354391
Abstract: A vehicle wheel end assembly (10) is adaptable for use with an on-board central tire inflation system. The assembly provides a passage for the routing of air between the on-board system and the vehicle tire. The assembly comprises a stationary spindle (12) and a rotational hub (14) mounted thereon. The hub is supported for rotation by first and second axially spaced bearing sets (16, 18), each having an inner race (20, 26) and an outer race (22, 28) associated with the spindle and hub, respectively. The inner race of the inboard bearing set (18) is formed with an axial air passage (46) which communicates with an internal chamber (36) in the hub to form a portion of the air passage between the tire and on-board system. In another feature, rotary seals (60, 62) are seated in opposed faces of the bearing sets and include sealing lips (72) which have a sealed contact with the upper surface of the inner bearing races.

  • Patent number: 5347801
Abstract: A round baler having a frame with opposing side walls, conveying apparatus including a series of inwardly facing moving surfaces defining a baling chamber for forming cylindrical bales of crop material and a feeder for feeding crop material into the chamber. Rotatable transverse rollers are mounted between the opposing side walls of the frame for operatively supporting the conveying apparatus, and a journal assembly having a bearing arrangement for mounting the rollers. The bearing arrangement includes a generally cylindrical stationary first race and a concentrically disposed generally cylindrical rotatable second race between which races a bearing cavity is formed for seating a series of bearings housed between said first and second races. A unique shield assembly encloses the cavity and prevents the intrusion of unwanted debris.

  • Patent number: 5333957
Abstract: In a ball bearing, a shielding plate (5), which is injection-molded into one piece from a polyacetal resin which is adequate in all of rigidity, Flexibility and resiliency, is interposed between an inner race (1) and an outer race (2) in a side off the bearing to protect the interior of the bearing from dust and moisture. In assembling, the shielding plate ( 5 ) has its outer peripheral portion resiliently deformed and fitted into an inner annular groove (2a) of the outer race (2), and does not affect the outer race (2) in dimension thereof at all after completion of the assembling.

  • Patent number: 5332232
Abstract: A sealing system is provided with a construction which permits easy mounting in a bearing assembly, and which provides improved sealing functions by enhancing the ability to engage in a groove in the bearing assembly. The sealing system comprises a sealing device including a supplemental metal ring having a portion folded-over into a U-shape and a marginal end portion extending from the folded-over portion also folded-over into a funnel shape. When the sealing device is mounted in the bearing assembly, the marginal end portion may be expanded deformably to a greater diameter, to thereby allow it to engage in the groove and secure the sealing device in position in the bearing assembly.

The elastomer seal provides two additional barriers, which comply more readily than the edges of the stiffer PTFE disk to radial eccentricity and axial run out. The elastomer seal lips run with reduced friction because of the fact that they contact the PTFE disk.
