Lip Seal Patents (Class 384/484)
  • Patent number: 4660997
Abstract: A rotation-damping rolling bearing is provided with a damping element between a cover or sealing disk and a row of rolling elements. The damping element can be integrally formed with a cover disk, vulcanized on the support body of the sealing disk, integrally formed with the support, or connected to the sealing disk separate from the support. The sealing disk is provided with a flexible sealing lip. The damping element contacts the rolling bodies with axial prestress.

  • Patent number: 4653936
Abstract: A bearing bushing is provided with a sealing ring having a conical bore surface on the side remote from the side at which a shaft is inserted. The rim of the bearing bushing is provided with a concial surface which cooperates with the conical surface of the sealing ring during insertion of the shaft so as to restrain the sealing ring in a manner that prevents it from being forced out of the bearing bushing. Alternatively, a restraining ring having a circumferential projection with a conical surface can be arranged to prevent unseating of the sealing ring when the shaft is inserted from the sealing ring side of the bearing bushing. A shaft being inserted exerts axial force on the sealing ring, causing the inner portion of the sealing ring to expand radially as the conical surface of the sealing ring slidingly ascends the conical surface of the bushing rim or restraining ring, thereby allowing easy insertion of the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4650195
Abstract: A seal for an anti-friction bearing, which bearing includes an outer and inner ring and rolling elements riding between them. At the inner ring, the seal includes an axially outwardly extending leg or membrane, the radially inward side of which carries two axially spaced apart sealing ridges which are resiliently biased against the inner ring for effecting a seal. In the above axial membrane, there is an additional membrane of smaller cross section formed by a radial constriction of that axial membrane between the two sealing ridges, which makes the support of the axially outward sealing ridge more flexible. The distance between the sealing ridges is at least equal to the axial clearance in the completed installed bearing.

  • Patent number: 4614446
Abstract: A fastening device for the rollers of a roller bushing, such as a universal joint bushing. The roller bushing includes a pin, an outer bushing around and spaced from the pin and rollers between the pin and the outer bushing. A groove in the outer bushing receives a holding ring which is generally U shaped. The groove in the outer bushing is shaped for receiving the radially outer leg of the holding ring under tension. The radially inner leg of the holding ring has projections which cooperate with projections on an outer seal for snap-holding the outer seal to close off the space between the pin and the bushing. The radially-directed, axially inwardly facing surface of the transition leg of the holding ring rests against the axially inward surface of the groove. Further, an inner sealing element for the space between the pin and the outer bushing rests against that same surface of the transition leg of the holding ring.

  • Patent number: 4611931
Abstract: Sealed roller bearing with a plastic jacket, in which this jacket, continuing in the radial direction on at least one side of the roller bearing, is designed to form a seal by way of at least one ring lip with a shaft or the like, characterized in that the seal has annular grooves extending axially on both sides of the radial side surfaces, and in that at least one edge area in the transition from the bore surface to the radial side surfaces is designed as a tilting edge, which lifts the ring lip radially from the sealing surface during axial displacement.

  • Patent number: 4605319
Abstract: A rolling bearing having an inner and outer race and at least one row of rolling members between the races, and sealing rings closing off the space between the races externally, each of which consists of an annular element of a rigid material, for example a metal, the outer edge of which is accommodated in an annular groove in the outer race of the rolling bearing and a sealing element, attached thereto, of an elastic material having a lip-shaped part which, with respect to the annular element, projects inward and rests against the inner race of the rolling bearing, characterized in that the annular element is a flat ring which closes off the space between the races, except for a relatively narrow slot between its inner peripheral edge and the inner race, and the sealing element of an elastic material likewise has essentially the shape of a flat ring, the outer peripheral part of which and the element of a rigid material are joined, so that the inner peripheral part projects outside the inner periphery of the

  • Patent number: 4575265
Abstract: A seal for a bearing having a housing with an opening therein for receiving a shaft in which a bearing assembly is mounted in the housing and has an inner race for receiving the shaft. A seal consisting of a ring having a radially extending, outwardly facing flat surface is disposed in the housing opening adjacent the inner race, and a seal which may be of the V-ring type is mounted on the inner race and has a lip which seats on and rubs against the radial surface of the ring. Collars may be used on the race to retain the lipped seal in proper relationship with the ring on the inner race. The relationship of the lip to the metal ring is such that the bearing assembly can be purged by the outward flowing of the lubricant yet protected from the ingress of foreign matter. In some modifications, an auxiliary seal, which is disposed externally with respect to the lipped seal, may be used.

  • Patent number: 4533265
Abstract: A rolling bearing assembly fitted with seals for a bearing chamber between two relatively rotatable components of the assembly. Each seal is mounted on one of the components and has a resilient sealing lip in sliding contact with a sealing surface on the other component, the lip being deflected by the sealing surface in a direction away from the bearing chamber under normal running conditions. The side of the lip facing the chamber is formed with grooves arranged to permit air to flow past the seal in the event of the lip being drawn inwardly towards the bearing chamber by a reduced pressure therein. The side of the lip may be provided with ribs instead of grooves.

  • Patent number: 4502739
Abstract: The roller bearing seal includes a ring-shaped member integrally connected to an outer race of the roller bearing. The ring-shaped member has an outer lip portion that is spaced a predetermined amount from the inner race of the roller bearing so as to provide a gap between the ring shaped seal member and the inner race. Oppositely extending rim portions project from the lip portion in concentric fashion with respect to the lip portion to define respective spaces for accommodating grease layers. The grease layers and the lip portion constitute a seal against the inner race thereby preventing dust or other foreign particles from passing through the grease layers and the lip portion.
