Abstract: A rotation-support apparatus having construction in which large force is not applied to continuous sections between column sections 12a and rim sections 11 even when needles 6 push in the circumferential direction against the side surfaces in the circumferential direction of the column sections 12a, thus making it possible to improve the durability of a retainer 7a. Of both side surfaces in the circumferential direction of a straight section 15a on the inner-radial side in the middle section in the axial direction of the column sections 12a, the portion near the outer-radial side of the retainer 7a is more recessed than the portion near the inner-radial side of the retainer 7a. Moreover, this portion near the inner-radial side is located within the pitch circle P of the needles 6. Furthermore, there is no contact between the rolling surfaces of the needles 6 and the straight section 15a on the inner-radial side.

  • Patent number: 7540665
Abstract: A tapered roller bearing includes a retainer formed with a plurality of trapezoidal pockets. Each pocket includes cutouts formed in the crossbars defining each pocket near the narrow end thereof. A tapered roller is received in each pocket with its small-diameter end facing the narrow end of the pocket. Lubricating oil flowing into the bearing space defined radially inwardly of the retainer can quickly flows through the cutouts into the bearing space defined radially outwardly of the retainer at the narrow end of each pocket. Thus, it is possible to reduce the amount of lubricating oil flowing along the raceway of the inner ring to the large-diameter flange, and thus reduce the amount of lubricating oil remaining in the bearing, thereby reducing the torque loss due to rotational resistance of the bearing resulting from lubricating oil remaining in the bearing.

The shaft is not a member of the bearing. Therefore, a force acting on the rollers travels through the rollers directly into the bearing and into the outer arm which reduces the potential for the rollers to become detached from the shaft. An inboard bearing design involves an inner bearing race integrated into the rollers. An outboard bearing design involves an inner bearing race integrated in the outer arm and an outer bearing race integrated into the rollers.

The inner race is disposed about a rotational axis and includes a peripheral surface facing the rotational axis with an inner nominal diameter of seven inches about the rotational axis. The outer race has a circumferential surface surrounding the inner race and includes an outer nominal diameter of twelve inches about the rotational axis. The roller cage is disposed between the inner race and the outer race and includes a first piece and a second piece connected together by the cage fasteners. Each of the cage fasteners includes a first surface having a first effective area in contiguous engagement with the first piece of the roller cage, and a second surface having a second effective area in contiguous engagement with the second piece of the roller cage.

Abstract: In machining a pocket (1) installing therein a rolling element, tools (7, 8) are prepared whose milling parts (5, 8a) have contours which coincide with the sectional configuration of the pocket resulting when the pocket has been machined along a retainer radial direction (Z), and the milling parts (5, 8a) of the tools (7, 8) are inserted into a prepared hole for the pocket which is provided in advance and are then translated in a retainer revolving direction (Y) and axial direction (X), respectively, for forming the pocket. Accordingly, it is possible to provide a retainer for rolling bearings that has high accuracy in machining pockets and which is suitable for an integral one-piece retainer.

The outer member 3 is made up of an annular body 3a of a diameter greater than the pitch circle diameter PAD of the array of the rollers and collars 3b each formed by bending a corresponding end of the annular body 3a so as to extend radially inwardly therefrom. The inner member 4 is of an annular shape having a diameter smaller than the pitch circle diameter PAD. Pockets 5 and 6 are defined in the outer and inner members 3 and 4 with the rollers 2 supported in part within the pockets 5 in the outer member 3 and in part within the pocket 6 in the inner member 4. The collars 3b may alternatively be provided in the inner member 4, rather than the outer member 3.

Abstract: A radial inner end of a retainer is spaced radially outwardly from a radial outer end of a sliding-contact region, and with this construction the axial movement of each needle roller is limited not by the retainer but by an inner ring, and a restriction flange. Therefore, a large axial force developing in the needle rollers is received by the inner ring and the restriction flange, and as a result, the retainer having low rigidity can be satisfactorily used. Therefore, any suitable material such as a synthetic resin can be selected for the retainer, and besides the wall thickness of the retainer can be made small.
