  • Patent number: 5903934
Abstract: A bathtub of integral construction especially adapted for installation in a private residence has a sump bottom spaced a sufficient distance above the floor and an opening in the apron leading to the space beneath the sump. The sump bottom spacing and apron opening enable the positioning of a portion of the undercarriage of a mobile patient lift underneath the sump bottom so that the bather supported by the lift can be positioned directly above the sump. Accordingly, the bather, who may be an invalid or other seriously physically handicapped person, may be transferred to a residential style bathtub in his home without having to disembark the lift. The invention also includes methods of making the bathtubs and using them with the mobile patient lifts.

  • Patent number: 5682625
Abstract: An adjustable headrest for a spa tub includes a housing defining a first recess for receiving a pillow for supporting the head of an occupant. A spa tub defines a second recess for slidingly receiving the housing. A positioning device, coupled to the housing and the recess of the spa tub, allows adjustment of the height of the housing relative to the spa tub. A front surface of the housing and the pillow lie flush with adjacent surfaces of the spa tub. The adjustable headrest further includes a water jet, mounted on the housing below the pillow, for directing water (but preferably not air to reduce splashing) under pressure towards the neck of the occupant. The direction of the water leaving the water jet can be adjusted.

  • Patent number: 5465434
Abstract: A system for recycling water used in a bathtub/shower is disclosed. The system alternatively directs water drained from the shower or bathtub to either a recycled water storage tank or a sewer line. The water in the recyclable water tank is subsequently pumped to a sprinkler system or an outdoor faucet. The water is directed to either the sewer line or the storage tank through the use of a valve with a first inlet for accepting water from the drain of the bathtub, a second inlet for accepting water from the overflow drain of the bathtub, a first outlet leading to the sewer line, and a second outlet leading to the recycled water storage tank. The valve is operative for blocking either the first inlet, the first outlet or the said second outlet only, and all other parts remain open. The position of a rotatable element of the valve is controlled by a lever mounted on the bathtub overflow plate.

  • Patent number: 5386599
Abstract: A portable bathing unit for use in bathing bedridden patients is disclosed. The portable bathing unit includes a bath tub supported by a housing which is movably positionable in the proximity of a patient. Casters depend from the bottom of the housing to permit the portable bathing unit to be rolled in an upright posture. Additional casters are also attached to the rear of the housing which permit the portable bathing unit to be turned up on its rear and transported through narrow doorways. Water delivery and retrieval may be accomplished through the use of a submersible pump and a segment of conduit. Alternatively, a water delivery and retrieval may be accomplished through the use of an auxiliary faucet which is connected to an existing plumbing system. A hydrotherapeutical bath tub may be employed if desirable. Moreover, the bath tub may incorporate an overflow assembly to reduce the risk of water overflowing therefrom.

  • Patent number: 5361429
Abstract: A double tub bath structure includes a primary tub defining therein a water containing recess, a secondary tub smaller than the primary tub and movably disposed within the primary tub by being supported by a support plate and a hood serving as a canopy to cover the water containing recess removably secured to the primary tub. A positioning rod with a plurality of positioning holes formed thereon is secured to the support plate and is movably received within a slot formed in the primary tub. A control lever pivoted within a deep hole juxtaposing the slot is allowed to rotate relative to the positioning rod to have a retaining end thereof engage one of the positioning holes to hold the support plate at a desired position within the primary tub. Wheels may be provided on the primary tub to help moving the double tub bath. The canopy may include a net member to provide air ventilation so that the double tub bath may serve as a baby perambulator with the baby sitting or lying down in the secondary tub.

  • Patent number: 5311631
Abstract: A water driven cleaning apparatus for use in spas, hot tubs and like open-topped enclosures suitable for bathing and having a pressurized water system. This fast, efficient, easy-to-use cleaning system extends the pressurized water system to create vacuum pressure used to remove sand, gravel, leaves, needles and other unwanted foreign matter collected in the vessel. An in-line filter traps these particles and permits removal before they enter the primary filtration system. This apparatus can be used by the bather from inside or outside the vessel. The vessel may be located indoors or outdoors. The apparatus operates without modifying the spa, hot tub or like open-topped enclosure.
